pink dresdens from Making A Lather

Last week, I had a decision to make about adding a another project to my rainbow scrap challenge plans, an old ufo with pink dresdens.
I was worried I wouldn't keep all the plates in the air.
I was grateful for bloggie support and decided to do both, but, with a better mind set.

I spent only one evening sorting the scrap bucket and cutting what I would normally need. Then, I put it all away for another time. It looks neat and tidy.... for a minute.

I cut strips in 3 1/2, 2 1/2, 2, and ...

pink dresden to do from Making A Lather

My oldest ufo is from 1987. My only daughter was born after 2 boys ( and there would be 2 more boys) And I was ready to celebrate pink.  I saw a picture in a magazine ( I wonder where it is hiding), and, I cut pieces with a cardboard template. It was so pretty and feminine looking. But, a third baby leaves you one hand too few. And, it has barely seen the light of day.  I can't find when, but I found a dresden template awhile ago. I cut several, enough to fill a gallon zip lock bag.

I ...

Challenging times from The Academic Quilter

Hello all. How are you doing with our new reality? I'm just sitting here, writing this while refreshing my grocery order in hopes of getting a pickup time slot. Good times.

Plenty of allergies are building up here, but no nasty viruses yet, thank goodness. I am truly not doing too well with this whole thing, and I'm trying to be upbeat and optimistic, but folks, I'm struggling. I know some of you are, too. It's a very challenging time for everyone, and trying to keep it all together is getting to me. Even stitching isn ...

Connecting & Freeing Up from Terificreations's Weblog

Connecting While perusing social media Debby Brown posted this link for ways to connect with one another while we are refraining from in-person contact. I knew about one of the ways for personal contact, the other two were new to me. The Quilt Show is having a membership sale right now. I rejoined last night… Continue reading Connecting & Freeing Up

Pink Skulls Baby Quilt from Jan's Quilts

I have a large and wonderful family, including about 50 cousins.  One of my cousins, actually the daughter of a cousin, contacted me about making a quilt for her daughter who was having a baby girl.  The expectant mother is a mortician and her mother wanted a mostly pink quilt with skulls.  My first thought was sugar skulls, but no, she wanted just regular skulls.

So I found some pink skull fabric and pulled some great low-volume whites from my stash and did a disappearing four-patch design.

The last two photos, showing the front and back, are from the baby ...

Sewing Projects for a Full Heart (and Bobbin)! from The Cutting Table Quilt Blog - A Blog for Quilters by Quilters

When someone is covered in a cozy, warm quilt, they are reminded that someone sat at a sewing machine for hours, carefully piecing and stitching, with them in mind. A handmade table runner sitting on the family dining table shows a loving home to all who feast there. To be gifted a wall hanging is a reminder that they are loved by its maker.

Valentine’s day is one of the best holidays to make for because it’s about love and we LOVE to make! Here are some sweet as pie project ideas:

BABY LOVE from Nestlings By Robin

Out on stands now is the
January 2020 issue of AQ magazine.

My new design, BABY LOVE, is
featured within on page 64.
I was very thankful to have Ann Hamel's
(AQ's fantastic editor) advice on
what is trending with baby colors since I
am not a grandma and so a bit out of the loop:)
Once I had my lovely Shadow Play
fabric from Maywood Studios, I
went shopping for some basic thread
and found the perfect pink with my
mother's name:)
Then it was time to get to work
paper piecing these simple little blocks ...

Baby Girl Quilt for Olivia from Studio Dragonfly Quilts

This commission quilt was made for a coworker and friend who is expecting her first grandchild. One of the requirements was that it not have too much pink as the mom is not fond of all pink for her baby girl. However, purple was most definitely acceptable and I was fortunate to find this cozy cotton flannel fat quarter bundle by Studio RK for Robert Kaufman. Another request was to personalize the quilt with the baby's full name. I "purpled out" the last name for security reasons.

Typically, I print a label onto fabric using my inkjet printer but ...

rainbow tiny tuesday from Making A Lather

Every Tuesday at the rainbow scrap challenge, Angela offers us a new tiny Tuesday block.
I need to spend time making those blocks that I missed. Every one I make, I fall in love with when it is done. I don't have a design wall, so I haven't seen them together yet. I am really looking forward seeing the colors play together.

The Organized Quilter from Repro Quilt Lover

Let me begin by saying this is an aspirational post. I am not an organized quilter or an organized anything, really. But, I need an organized system to accomplish what makes me happy; maybe you can relate.

I am going to assume if you are reading this blog you like to quilt. And, therefore, are probably a creative person — a “creative type.” Generally, we creative types are free spirits, which doesn’t translate well into focus, planning and organization. But, if I give in to the free spirit and let it run my days, those days are ruled by a ...
