Liberty of London

Visiting London means for me visiting Liberty shop at the first place. The most wonderful shop! I love everything there, the atmosphere, the antique architecture, the products they sell and most of all the fabrics. I used fill my suitcase with Liberty of London fabrics!

My last creations : a crib baby quilt and a cloud pillow.

I find the Liberty of London fabric perfectly well adapted for babies, due to its extreme softness.
As well so elegant!

You can find those items and many others here : yayaCousette

Clean Your House by Reincarnating Your Freemotion Practice into Psychedelic Gifts! from Gefilte Quilt

I've been on mental vacation for the past couple of days, because I just wrapped up a couple of big projects.  So I started procrastinating the next big thing on my list by cleaning up my studio and selected portions of my home.

But then I wound up procrastinating my procastination with this gift project idea, just in time for the holidays: Wall art/kitchen art/potholders from old freemotion quilting practice pieces! Here's some of what I've made so far, in the guise of cleaning up my house:

1. An oven mitt made from light-threads-on black ...

For Quilters Who Love their Scraps Too Much: Upcycle them into Pet Pillows from Gefilte Quilt

Here are my latest scrap-filled pet pillows, (photobombed by the Beatles.) I just unloaded a dozen of them! (The pillows, not the Beatles). Here's the the story:

Nothing focuses the mind like a new grandchild, and one of my instinctive responses to this joyful development is that I'm trying to clear and downsize my sewing room -- so I can fit some baby toys in.

And the area most in need of clearing in my sewing room was a corner stacked with pillows, most stuffed with small fabric and batting scraps.

Thanks partly to Covid, I had about five ...

Scrappy Strip/String Pillow ~ Two Versions! from Tea Rose Home

There are many scrappy strip/string quilt tutorials out there. Some tutorials suggest using white fabric as a foundation and some use different types of papers. I wasn't sure if I wanted to use fabric and have an extra layer in my pillow. So I used tracing paper I had at home and it was too thick to peel off after the strips were sewn. I know there are special papers available online, but I wanted to start making the blocks right away. Yes, I was in the mood that I had to start the project at that moment ...

Hearts of Hope--A Bonnie Hunter Design from TheEclecticAbuela

Hearts of Hope (55" x 68")

This was a sew-along pattern designed by Bonnie Hunter to show respect for the people of Ukraine. I made it in honor of my mother-in-law whose family fled the region ahead of WW2.

Hearts of Hope (border and binding detail)

If you have read my blog before, you know how much I love string piecing--so, you can believe that I enjoyed making this one.

Hearts of Hope (backing detail)

I used a lovely sunflower (the Ukrainian national flower) print for the back.

Hearts of Hope Pillow (18" x 18")

As usual, I had leftover ...

A Scrapbook of Quilts Pillow Along: The Wrap up! from Fat Quarter Shop's Jolly Jabber

I had so much fun making pillows with Joanna and Carrie! They led us in a Pillow Along with their new book, A Scrapbook of Quilts, to sew up some pretty cute pillows. In total, I sewed four pillows and two table runners!

A Scrapbook of Quilts is all about the possibilities you can create with six blocks, so it seemed a natural fit to base the Pillow Along on them. Each week we had a different theme and quilt block to use as inspiration for a pillow (or other small project). Read on to see my take on the ...

An Express Post Cushion from Dizzy Quilts

Do you ever decide on your next project based on what you have taking up space in your sewing room? I spent a little bit of time cleaning up my sewing room recently because I got myself a new serger and wanted to make room for it. While trying to put stuff away, I found an 18" pillow form and I didn't know where to store it so instead, I decided to make myself a new pillow!

The pattern I chose for my pillow is one I very recently purchased. It is called Express Post and was designed by ...

life is short you're capable from Charm About You

Life is short You're Capable hand embroidered on decorative pillow with tassels in the corners of the pillow and loose ribbon and thread spool next to it

I made a thing! The original plan was for this to be a pincushion but I like it too much to stick pins in it, so it's a decorative little pillow. I like just having it around, a nice reminder and message to myself.

I designed this embroidery pattern as a companion to my You're Capable cushion/mini quilt pattern, which was inspired by Gwen Stefani lyrics and created to give empowerment.

Life is short You're Capable embroidered on dot fabric with needle and thread still there and needle resting on a stork needle minder

It was a quick stitch, using couching with double strands and a single stand, and 3 strands for the back stitch with Aurifloss in # ???. It was ...

Well for February 2021, we are trying to stay on top of all our cross stitch projects and Fully Finish them…ALL! This month we compiled our Top 5 Finishing Videos that you can use to finish all those stitched ...

Quilt Your City on Pillows from Gefilte Quilt

Out of wall space? How about making some quilted pillows?

I might not have thought of this, if I hadn't been asked. A neighbor saw my pandemic porch quilt show (the subject of my last several blog posts), and commissioned me to make four 18" pillows, including two with scenes from our town, South Pasadena, which is part of Los Angeles. We negotiated a price and a backing color - grey - and I was off. It took about two weeks, and here they are.

The first one in the lineup above represents the town's Gold Line MTA Train crossing ...
