Scrap Bin Quilted Pillow from The Cloth Parcel

Remember our Confetti Weave Quilt (still a personal favorite!)?  After trimming the half-square triangles, we saved all of the leftover small triangle pieces.  We thought we would make something really cool, since there were so many of them. After sewing them together with the same gray background from the quilt (also trimmings) into half-square triangles, […]

Halloween Crazy Quilt Pillow from Kitty and Me Designs

It's a little challenging to do crazy quilting where I am at the moment.  I just don't have the space to spread out.  Despite the challenge, I've been wanting to make something happy for my cousin Kim.  She too has had her share of stress these last few years.

Kim loves Halloween so I started out my making a small cross stitch Halloween piece.  The design is by The Prairie Schooler and I think it's from a few years back.  Anyway, I pieced a 9 inch block in happy orange colors and appliqued the cross stitch ...

Autumn Love Flying Geese Pillow Tutorial from Fat Quarter Shop's Jolly Jabber

Hey all, Kimberly here! I hope all of you got a chance to tune in to the livestream I did a couple of weeks ago, the Behind the Seams: Flying Geese Tutorial! I turn flying geese into a pillow. For this project, I used the Autumn Love collection by Lori Holt. I used the left overs from the Charm Pack in my Great Granny Squared Book Livestream (check out the book HERE) to make this easy, scrappy project!

Got Librarians? A Pillow for Book Lovers from Gefilte Quilt

Just finished: A birthday throw pillow for my cousins, rabbi Nina, and her husband Tom, a retired librarian:
The lovable library fabric was designed by Heather Givans of Windham Fabrics, for her "Jot" collection. Closer:
I found it a couple of months ago, during my visit to an a terrific New York City fabric district quilt shop, Gotham Quilts
Gotham doesn't stock vast amounts of fabric, but the selection is choice and the prices are among the most reasonable for quilting cottons in New York's fabric district. (Most of the stores I visited there - much larger and messier ...

Wintergreen Pillow from Liz Makes Crafts

I first met Tara Curtis of WEFTY a little less than a year ago at Quilt Expo in Madison. The fabric weaving technique she demonstrated were amazing, so I purchased a WEFTY right then and there. But then, it just sat there. I kept meaning to try it, but having to get a foam board and mark it, having to prepare fabric strips, and having to learn the weaving technique all became barriers that I just didn't want to cross.

But when my quilt guild invited Tara to teach her WEFTY needle technique, I jumped at the chance to ...

Pillow Possibilities from Gray Barn Designs

Hi, it’s Cindy hosting our blog again today!

Possibility = Reality

I found this pretty buffalo check fleece and decided to make a travel pillow for a friend.  Who wouldn’t like a soft, cozy pillow when traveling by land, air or sea?  It’s very “packable” at 12 inches x 16 inches.

Since fleece stretches, I used the stretch knit stitch to finish the edges of the envelope closures and to sew the side seams.  I like the decorative look AND the fleece can stretch without the stitches breaking.

Here’s the finished product…I think I should will ...

Small Something #4: Matching Pillows from Wedding Dress Blue

The Heritage Stars quilt generated a number of “waste” triangles that didn’t want to go to waste.IMG_3479

So I made pillows instead. Matchy-matchy, but hopefully in a good way.IMG_3479

No tutorial…I just trimmed the Half-square triangles to a standard size (in this case, 2-1/2″) and fiddled around with layout options.  I hope he is pleased.

Modern DecorWhen my niece, Amanda and her husband, Darnell,... from Living Water Quilter

 Modern Decor

When my niece, Amanda and her husband, Darnell, came for a visit a few months ago they requested I make a pillow.  The young couple have been diligently making their house a home.

Before I made their pillows, (pictured above), I did a little experimenting with stitch patterns.  The fabric was the inspiration for the surface thread design so any added elements should be simple and elegant.

After I finished her pillows, I decided to experiment a little more and use the new Westalee Design Decorative Ruler Foot to stitch rattail cord. The black cord was used to ...

Published: A Starburst Cushion from Samelia's Mum

Starburst Cushion by Anorina Morris Gosh, this week has almost gotten away from me. It's been a busy week, plus, we've had a birthday in the family and all of the preparations that goes with it - I hadn't turned on my computer since my last post a few days ago. It was a great birthday and rather than bake cake (for 20 people), I bought a huge birthday cake from Costco. Perfect! Have you

Planned Improv Playful Pillow from Goer

The fabrics featured in this post were given to me by Island Batik.

Last month I created Emerald Swallowtail, a baby quilt designed with inspiration from a vintage quilt design. The creation of that quilt resulted in 30 leftover HSTs from the offcuts of my snowball corners. Step 4 of this tutorial shows how I like to sew a second line of stitching before cutting off extra triangles. I prefer to have leftover HSTs instead of just a pile of loose triangles that I'd have to sew bias edges together later to use. I have a bin where I ...

Patriotic Patchwork Pillow from Modern Handcraft

Hi friends! I am here today with a pillow cover tutorial that you can create for the Fourth of July! I am a huge fan of pillow covers for holidays, they slip right over your current pillow, are cheap to make, and take up very little room in storage! This one uses great red, white and blue fabrics but can […]

Spelling Bee Sew Along: a finished pillow from Carried Away Quilting

Do you remember the blocks I showed you months ago for the Spelling Bee Sew Along with Lori Holt and Fat Quarter Shop?  Well, I finally got my act together and completed the over sized pillow I was imagining in my mind. It feels so good to have this sweet project done, and just in time for my college girl to move home for the summer!

During the Spelling Bee Sew Along, I made the Capital HCapital G and Flower blocks from Lori's fabulous book Spelling Bee. My plan all along was to incorporate these blocks into a ...

Fairy Owl Playful Pillow – An Island Batik Challenge from Clever Chameleon

Did you know that owls have a penchant for dressing-up after dark? No?! Well, check out Whoo’s Whoo at Clever Chameleon this month!

For May the Island Batik Ambassador challenge is to create a “Playful Pillow” with some of the fabric they gave us back in February. And for me, today had “sewing day” written all over it…. the weather has turned…. it is cold, and finally (thank goodness) raining. Time to come up with something playfully pillowesque for Island Batik.

So, how about…… a Fairy Owl? A playmate for the Pirate Owl pillow. Is that playful enough? I ...

friday night quilt and cathedral cushion from Charm About You

Friday night quilt

I'm so fortunate to be able to work with such beautiful fabrics and some of the best! Here's a little round up of a couple of makes I did for Sewing Quarter recently...

Liberty fabric The Cottage Garden

Liberty is one of my favourites and I use quite a bit of tana lawn in my own projects. I also have some of the lifestyle cotton prints they did a few years ago for quilters. The new Cottage Garden Collection prints from Liberty are quilting weight cotton and lovely to sew with. I cut them up into lots of pieces to make the Friday ...

Front porch flower pillow tutorial from The Crafty Quilter

This Front Porch Flower Pillow has been on my “to do” list for a while and it’s finally finished.  I thought I would share a quick tutorial with you in case you’d like to make one, too.

Front Porch Flower Pillow. A free tutorial by Julie Cefalu @ The Crafty Quilter for a 16" covered pillow using easy applique techniques.

This pillow measures 16″ square, and is named after the beautiful fabric used to make it – Front Porch Fabric by Sherri and Chelsi for Moda Fabrics.  It’s perfect for this project and it has some of my favorite colors!  You could even use a charm pack of 5″ squares to make the flower petals and to piece together the pillow ...

Thoughtful Tuesdays: Whose Voice? from Faith, Trust and Breast Cancer

Thoughtful Tuesdays:  Whose Voice?
During our walk with Christ, we have so many distractions, or voices as Lesley from Life in the Spacious Place stated.  Technology, doubts, opinions of others can bombard us, but I like what Lesley said:  we "have to be intentional about which voice we listen to."

She shares a beautiful song called Voice of Truth by Casting Crowns.  Go on over there and be encouraged!  I bet you'll be raising your hands in praise to the God Almighty - the true voice of truth!

Last Times List
Wow!  It's been ages since I've ...
