the seedling quilts book from Charm About You

The Seedling Quilts book, english paper pieces

I want to make every quilt in this book. The Seedling Quilts book is one to be savoured. I was thrilled to be asked by Jodi of Tales of Cloth to join the book tour as she has been an inspiration to me since we became blogging friends. I have always admired her sewing style, the way she combines fabrics and I LOVE her writing (so much I have actually embroidered a poem she wrote). She is endearing, interesting and very talented.

It's no surprise then that this book is full of all that - gorgeous quilts, excellent advice, tidbits ...

Another Special Gift from Quilting Is More Fun Than Housework

After finishing my nephew's quilt for graduating from high school, I moved on to a gift for my niece - who just graduated from college.

Now that she has her own place and a great job, she recently got a new dog.

Meet Norman!  He is cuteness overload!

When I saw the "Chi Chi Chihuahua" paper pieced pattern from UnicornHarts, I knew I needed to make it into a pillow for my niece.

It was challenging to make a completely white dog but there are subtle differences in the fabrics I used.  In person, you can better see the face ...

Tips & Tricks: Machine Quilting with 28 Weight Thread from The Cloth Parcel

This lovely quilted pillow cover was made from our latest pattern, the Conservatory Quilt.  We made this quilted pillow using the new supplies we got for the Summer Cabin Pillow Tutorial, which was from our turn on the OLFA + Aurifil Slice & Stitch Challenge last week. We used our 16″ square OLFA ruler, which […]

A stack o’ Christmas Ideas: Colour & Inspiration Tuesday from Clever Chameleon

Merry Christmas colour board at Clever Chameleon

Done, done and done! Lots of small finishes in this Round-Up of a Tuesday

I have been knocking off lots of little half-done sewing projects lately. A clearing of the queue, both physically and mentally.

Most of these finishes haven’t made it to the blog, although if you follow me on Instagram you may have seen some flash past you in your feed. So now it’s time to clear the decks. I get a stack of things of my chest, outta my head and into my journal-blog record. You get a post full of small projects that you ...

Week At A Glance from From the Strawberry Patch...

I had all sorts of good intentions to keep up with this blog. Really. But, then, life has a way of interfering. It's okay, it's all good! And so, a random post detailing the week at a glance. Our two youngest grandchildren have returned from Florida, their precious little family is reunited once again. They're all staying here until their major home renovation becomes a habitable home once

Artsy Fartsy: Colour & Inspiration Tuesday from Clever Chameleon

Artsy Fartsy Christmas color scheme at Clever Chameleon

Making a Start on my July project for Island Batik

Artsy Fartsy Challenge

This one’s a tough one. We’ve been asked to “use any fabric art/non-traditional quilting/sewing/thread painting technique using 3 Aurifil thread weights” for our July Island Batik Ambassador project. Any size, any technique, as long as the result is Artsy Fartsy. And I am just not feeling it like I usually do. Which is odd, because I have created plenty of non-traditional artsy fartsy quilt pieces in the past. And I am a big, big, big thread connoisseur. I love them all – rayons and metallics and ...

Another Small Wedding Gift from Wedding Dress Blue

Sparkle Jane also wanted to make a gift.  After all, the bride is her best friend. The color contrast between the house and the inner border doesn’t show very well in these pictures, but it works in real life.

A personalized pillow seemed perfect.

She does very fine embroidery work.  Remember, the entire door is only about 2″ tall.

I hope they will enjoy it in their new home.

How to Sew a Pillowcase – two methods! from Patchwork Posse

Learn how to sew a pillowcase! The two methods you’ll find are the burrito roll pillowcase and the pillowcase with a cuff.

I use pillowcases as presents — they are perfect for friends gifts, house warming gifts, Christmas gifts, birthday…you name it!  You can actually sew up a bunch and have them on hand for when you need them.

The fabrics I use are usually the fun, kind of crazy prints.  They are especially great for little kids.  They love the bright prints.

If you have an embroidery machine, you can even customize them with their initials or names ...

IS YOUR CHAIR NAKED? from ATTIC WINDOW QUILT SHOP

Do these chairs look naked to you?  Have you ever felt a little uncomfortable in one of these chairs? My son and I went to the Cottage show downtown and found a way to make them look dressed up and the experience of sitting in them more enjoyable.
Make a neck pillow. It not only dresses up the chair, it eases the neck/back pain when spending time with friends and family sitting by the fire at the lake.  The pillows were on display at the show, but we couldn't afford 12 pillows for his chairs.  Naturally, I volunteered ...

Saturday's Song. Slow Stitching. Sunday Stats. from Faith, Trust and Breast Cancer

Saturday's Song
Have you ever been at a crossroads where you can either trust God and move forward or stand where you are and perhaps never know what could have been?
Maybe this song is for you - and me.

LORD, give us courage to trust You more and more every day, I pray.

Slow Stitching
I finished up my second "accidental block pillow" and got the binding sewn on.  My living room is brightening up with these 30's fabrics!
Today I'll be fixing up Block 5, Dorothy, of the Hand Pieced Quilt Along and maybe work on ...

We are so glad to finally be able to announce that our newest quilt pattern, the Conservatory Quilt, is here!  We have put a lot of work into this pattern, and we think you will love it as much as we do.  This is the queen size, using Moda’s Bella solids for the white (we […]

I Decorated my City's Quilt Shop, with City Quilts from Gefilte Quilt

I decorated my local quilt shop! We have a new/old quilt store in Pasadena, CA, thank heavens, after a seemingly infinite interval when there was none.

Quilt'n'Things Fiber Arts, which used to be in Glendale, was sold and moved to Pasadena, on upper Lincoln Ave. The fabric and yarn collection is primo. Lana Norton, the new owner, has a fabulous eye, although I'm biased because she asked me to teach a class there. Also, because two of my skyline quilts are hanging there (they won't be there much longer, since the class is over).

Hi ...

"Guess what, Mommy? I sewed!" from Telling Stories Through the Needle's Eye

There is nothing quite like a sleepover with a grandchild, especially on a beautiful spring day. We enjoyed a perfect day this week with our oldest grandson—a day packed with fun. And to top it all (for me, Teri, at least), he asked me what every needlework-loving grandmother wants to hear: "Grandma, could we sew something?" Need I tell you my response?!

Sew we did! (Forgive my lame attempt at punny Yoda-speak.)

We started our adventure at a local creamery, where we enjoyed ice cream and play time on their playground. We had such fun, we almost forgot to ...

Pink Liberty Kantha-Style Pillow from Samelia's Mum

I've caught the stitching bug! For someone who lost their sewing mojo for a while, picking up a needle and thread to stitch along with a group on Instagram has certainly helped bring back my inclination to sew, sew, sew.

After finishing my blue Liberty Kantha Table Runner last week, I felt at a loss. I had enjoyed the process so much, that I was a little bit sad when the project was finished. I decided that I needed to start another one... fast!

For this next project, I chose to go with the warmer shades from my stash ...

Flower Shop from Live a Colorful Life

Whew. That last post seemed a little heavy. But it was something I needed to write, if only for me.

But now I'm ready for something pretty. My friend, Nicole, just released her new quilt pattern, Flower Shop. To me, there is a very Mid Century Modern feel to it, which I love.

The blocks are huge, 24". I was given the chance to test the pattern for Nicole before its official release and I made a pillow for our family room.

The pillow form needs to be a bit bigger--so it doesn't look like I have cut ...
