A Scrapbook of Quilts Pillow Along: The Wrap up! from Fat Quarter Shop's Jolly Jabber

I had so much fun making pillows with Joanna and Carrie! They led us in a Pillow Along with their new book, A Scrapbook of Quilts, to sew up some pretty cute pillows. In total, I sewed four pillows and two table runners!

A Scrapbook of Quilts is all about the possibilities you can create with six blocks, so it seemed a natural fit to base the Pillow Along on them. Each week we had a different theme and quilt block to use as inspiration for a pillow (or other small project). Read on to see my take on the ...

An Express Post Cushion from Dizzy Quilts

Do you ever decide on your next project based on what you have taking up space in your sewing room? I spent a little bit of time cleaning up my sewing room recently because I got myself a new serger and wanted to make room for it. While trying to put stuff away, I found an 18" pillow form and I didn't know where to store it so instead, I decided to make myself a new pillow!

The pattern I chose for my pillow is one I very recently purchased. It is called Express Post and was designed by ...

Gifted Quilts & Pillows from The Cloth Parcel

If it feels like it’s been awhile since we have shared the projects we’re working on, that’s because it has! We spent the last several months working on a large project that we can’t share yet, so it looks like there’s not much happening. Rest assured we have been hard at work! One thing that […]

life is short you're capable from Charm About You

Life is short You're Capable hand embroidered on decorative pillow with tassels in the corners of the pillow and loose ribbon and thread spool next to it

I made a thing! The original plan was for this to be a pincushion but I like it too much to stick pins in it, so it's a decorative little pillow. I like just having it around, a nice reminder and message to myself.

I designed this embroidery pattern as a companion to my You're Capable cushion/mini quilt pattern, which was inspired by Gwen Stefani lyrics and created to give empowerment.

Life is short You're Capable embroidered on dot fabric with needle and thread still there and needle resting on a stork needle minder

It was a quick stitch, using couching with double strands and a single stand, and 3 strands for the back stitch with Aurifloss in # ???. It was ...

Fully Finished February from Fat Quarter Shop's Jolly Jabber

An FFO is a “Fully Finished Object!” This means that our stitchy projects have been completely finished, whether they are framed, decorated, and ready to be put on display! Finishing your stitched art can take some time, and it is definitely going the extra mile. Sometimes life gets so busy that our UFO’s (Un-finished Objects) never become FFO’s!

Well for February 2021, we are trying to stay on top of all our cross stitch projects and Fully Finish them…ALL! This month we compiled our Top 5 Finishing Videos that you can use to finish all those stitched ...

Quilt Your City on Pillows from Gefilte Quilt

Out of wall space? How about making some quilted pillows?

I might not have thought of this, if I hadn't been asked. A neighbor saw my pandemic porch quilt show (the subject of my last several blog posts), and commissioned me to make four 18" pillows, including two with scenes from our town, South Pasadena, which is part of Los Angeles. We negotiated a price and a backing color - grey - and I was off. It took about two weeks, and here they are.

The first one in the lineup above represents the town's Gold Line MTA Train crossing ...

Triple Play! Little Houses from The Cutting Table Quilt Blog - A Blog for Quilters by Quilters

I’ll always remember 2020 as the year we stayed home. We wore stretchy pants. We watched movies. We sewed and sewed and sewed (and sewed). And, we baked A LOT of banana bread.

Jenny’s Design

Some days were boring; some were lonely. But through it all, I’ve felt grateful for the peace and safety of these four old walls. Dorothy was right, there’s no place like home.

Natalie’s Design

For this month’s Triple Play tutorial, Jenny and the gals used Daisy & Grace’s tiny house quilt-as-you-go templates to make a garland, a pillow, and ...

Small Last Minute Sewing Projects from Art Gallery Fabrics-The Creative Blog

Happy Holidays, Makers!

Last week I shared with you some of my favorite quilty projects that were not as big as a quilt but captures everything you love about patchwork in a smaller package. But this time around, I realized that I still need to make more gifts but with Christmas around the corner, I have even less time to complete projects.

So, here’s another list of free sewing projects that are even smaller, perfect for any last-minute gift making! The biggest project being a pillow and it’s for those quilters who are already quick in putting a ...

Crochet Giant Granny Square

At the begining of this new lockdown I started searching my stash of yarns with the aim of creating a new multicolor giant granny square blanket.

I picked up all the colored yarns I found for needles or crochet number 4, keeping the brown, grey and beige for another project.

Here I used the brand Fonty quality Ambiance 100 % superwash Woll superfine SW.

This is a very simple and pleasant project. It is never boring as you change colors. I love playing with varigated colors when I work on a project, that is quilting or knitting.

Liberty Pillow from Quilting Stories

Liberty pillow

I was not satisfied with my LIBERTY pillow. Laziness never pays : I had not quilted it and it looked flat.

Neither was I pleased with the back of it, done with a basic cotton instead of a Liberty one.

As regards the sewing of a zip : for those like me who have difficulties with this step, there is the solution of linking the two parts of the back of the pillow with strings, as shown on the last picture. The result is lovely.

Now my pillow looks perfect!

Free block pattern: Snazzy Snowflake from Carried Away Quilting

This past week we experienced unseasonably warm weather.  November high temps in the 70s are rare in Minnesota. The snow we received in October disappeared quickly, and we were able to get outside to finish our autumn yard chores and enjoy the sunshine.  But mother nature can’t fool me.  I know that bitter cold and mounds of white stuff are just around the corner. So, I embraced the inevitable and sewed up this pretty snowflake pillow.

I’m pleased to tell you that the snowflake block is a free pattern from Highway 10 Designs, a Canadian based design team ...

Projects other than quilting from Beehive Quilts

When the virus first hit and we were ordered to stay home as much as possible, I was so excited as I would be able to do all kinds of quilting projects and not feel guilty that I wasn't out doing other things. So I did. I sewed and sewed and sewed and completed many projects. I got many old projects that I had started years ago and then put away for one reason or another and have either completed it or are close to being completed. After a few weeks, though, I found I was getting bored with ...
