We’ve been loving making pillows here at Fat Quarter Shop! We recently turned the adorable Aunt Martha’s Dirty Laundry Embroidered Dish Towels we saw at fall market this year into a pillow in this blog post and we’re making another pillow with the Happy Farm Girl Cross […]

Color Master of the Month: Emerald Stone from Art Gallery Fabrics-The Creative Blog

Emerald stone mood board

2019 is here!! Who’s ready for a new start? I’d say looking back, 2018 was a good year for me, filled with fun memories and fun trips with friends. I also got more into sewing home decor, and making handmade gifts! Now that it’s a new start with a new year, I’m kicking off 2019 with my favorite color: Emerald Green. If you know me, you’d say I have a small obsession with the color because my room walls are painted green and even my office desk is filled with green accessories (mugs, coasters, mouse ...

Christmas Redwork Pillow from From My Carolina Home

The Christmas Redwork project almost didn’t get finished this season.  It seemed like the days just flew by and I didn’t get a lot of stitching done each week.  Progress was made, but just not quickly.

Redwork Christmas Project at

Last weekend, stitching resumed in earnest until the redwork was done.  I wanted to add some beads to dress it up a bit as well.

Small round seed beads were added to the little designs at the bottom.

Red bugle beads enhance Santa’s hat, and seed beads make the eyes shine.

One pillow or two? from Fleur de Lis Quilts and Accessories

As promise earlier in the week, I want to show you the pillow I made for a customer. Her sister lost a child recently and she had a couple of his favorite tee shirts, which I quilted and made into one pillow.

I used the backs of the shirts because both had beautiful wing motifs and challenged myself to use the wings for the quilting.

The backing is this green/beige knit that was in my stash. It worked quite well and didn't pucker at all despite having a good bit of stretch to it.

The background has a ...

Christmas sewing from Sotak Handmade

Hello lovelies,

are you doing any Christmas sewing this year? I want to make tons of presents for family and friends but as far as decorations go I decided to use mostly what we already have (since we do have plenty), and focus on just a few small projects to add a bit more Christmas spirit throughout our home.

I made these Grinch pillow covers for my kids and I just love how cheery they turned out. Funny, I'm using Grinch and cheery in one sentence :). I purchased this lovely fabric last year at Joann's thinking it would ...

Logo Quilted Pillow from Childlike Fascination

I was in the craft room the other day – I should have been cleaning and packing but as I often do, I got distracted and decided to make something instead,

This idea has been percolating for a bit now; the geometric nature of the logo at my job has quietly whispered “quilt me” for quite some time now.

I’ve worked for other companies with very quiltable logos before but never seized the opportunity so while I was organizing and destashing some of my fabric through my Etsy shop I stumbled across a spare pillow form then “accidentally” pulled fabric ...

Free Christmas Ornament Pattern from Kitty and Me Designs

I haven't been very chatty lately.  Due to my current circumstances, I'm just keeping myself busy.

With Christmas just around the corner, I thought you would enjoy this free cross stitch ornament pattern:

It's a quick stitch project that can be used as ornaments or, if you're a crazy quilter, you can do something similar to this project:

I made this for my cousin over the Summer.  The cross stitch piece is worked on 14 Aida and appliqued to the crazy quilt block with fusible web.

The little bird on a snowflake would make a really ...

More Custom Cushions from Samelia's Mum

Following on from my previous post, I have a few more custom cushions to share here today. These were ordered by a friend who I met through my kids school. She has a son who is in my son's grade and a daughter who is in my daughter's grade (plus she has one more little boy). These are going to be Christmas gifts for the two grandmothers.

Autumn pillow featuring Calico Crow by Lauren Nash for Riley Blake Designs from Carried Away Quilting

October in Minnesota is beautiful. For most of the month, the lawns are still green but the trees put on a brilliant show of golden oranges, fiery reds, deep rusts and regal plums. While it’s true that our temperatures begin to drop in October, the weather is typically mild. It’s the season of scarves and sweaters, camp fires, crisp evening walks, and pretty pots of mums on the porch. Yes, we try to squeeze it all in before the first snow flies!

Autumn is my favorite season. While I should probably sew my fall flavored quilting projects in ...

Starstruck Pillow from Goer

The products featured in this post were given to me by Island Batik and Aurifil.

This month's Island Batik theme was Starstruck. We were tasked with creating anything featuring stars.

I opted to use my Victoria and Albert 10" stack to create simple, large scale sawtooth stars. This fabric collection is a lovely floral collection with a great variety of values. I split my 20 fabrics into lights and darks and pieced ten large blocks.

Nine of my blocks went into a lap size quilt top and the tenth block was quilted into a finished pillow.

Here's a ...

Scrap Bin Quilted Pillow from The Cloth Parcel

Remember our Confetti Weave Quilt (still a personal favorite!)?  After trimming the half-square triangles, we saved all of the leftover small triangle pieces.  We thought we would make something really cool, since there were so many of them. After sewing them together with the same gray background from the quilt (also trimmings) into half-square triangles, […]

Halloween Crazy Quilt Pillow from Kitty and Me Designs

It's a little challenging to do crazy quilting where I am at the moment.  I just don't have the space to spread out.  Despite the challenge, I've been wanting to make something happy for my cousin Kim.  She too has had her share of stress these last few years.

Kim loves Halloween so I started out my making a small cross stitch Halloween piece.  The design is by The Prairie Schooler and I think it's from a few years back.  Anyway, I pieced a 9 inch block in happy orange colors and appliqued the cross stitch ...

Autumn Love Flying Geese Pillow Tutorial from Fat Quarter Shop's Jolly Jabber

Hey all, Kimberly here! I hope all of you got a chance to tune in to the livestream I did a couple of weeks ago, the Behind the Seams: Flying Geese Tutorial! I turn flying geese into a pillow. For this project, I used the Autumn Love collection by Lori Holt. I used the left overs from the Charm Pack in my Great Granny Squared Book Livestream (check out the book HERE) to make this easy, scrappy project!

Got Librarians? A Pillow for Book Lovers from Gefilte Quilt

Just finished: A birthday throw pillow for my cousins, rabbi Nina, and her husband Tom, a retired librarian:
The lovable library fabric was designed by Heather Givans of Windham Fabrics, for her "Jot" collection. Closer:
I found it a couple of months ago, during my visit to an a terrific New York City fabric district quilt shop, Gotham Quilts
Gotham doesn't stock vast amounts of fabric, but the selection is choice and the prices are among the most reasonable for quilting cottons in New York's fabric district. (Most of the stores I visited there - much larger and messier ...

Wintergreen Pillow from Liz Makes Crafts

I first met Tara Curtis of WEFTY a little less than a year ago at Quilt Expo in Madison. The fabric weaving technique she demonstrated were amazing, so I purchased a WEFTY right then and there. But then, it just sat there. I kept meaning to try it, but having to get a foam board and mark it, having to prepare fabric strips, and having to learn the weaving technique all became barriers that I just didn't want to cross.

But when my quilt guild invited Tara to teach her WEFTY needle technique, I jumped at the chance to ...

Pillow Possibilities from Gray Barn Designs

Hi, it’s Cindy hosting our blog again today!

Possibility = Reality

I found this pretty buffalo check fleece and decided to make a travel pillow for a friend.  Who wouldn’t like a soft, cozy pillow when traveling by land, air or sea?  It’s very “packable” at 12 inches x 16 inches.

Since fleece stretches, I used the stretch knit stitch to finish the edges of the envelope closures and to sew the side seams.  I like the decorative look AND the fleece can stretch without the stitches breaking.

Here’s the finished product…I think I should will ...

Small Something #4: Matching Pillows from Wedding Dress Blue

The Heritage Stars quilt generated a number of “waste” triangles that didn’t want to go to waste.IMG_3479

So I made pillows instead. Matchy-matchy, but hopefully in a good way.IMG_3479

No tutorial…I just trimmed the Half-square triangles to a standard size (in this case, 2-1/2″) and fiddled around with layout options.  I hope he is pleased.
