Starry, starry night!

Not so many stars in the second design, but it is my favourite for today … I like the empty space waiting for some quilting lines to be added.

I have rarely seen a Log Cabin Quilt in pretty pink, but this project file is proof that it works.

Of course, the designs would work in other colours, but sometimes I like to break the mold.

The design above is very interesting … I like it!

Another very interesting design!

The last one is neat and tidy …

… but my favourite is the very interesting design on the left of the bottom row. More Log Cabin deigns mid week, next week to browse through during a short retreat from the world around us.

Interesting, and I like interesting designs.

Interesting again, but it looks like a spider’s web and have no desire to sleep under one of them!

The third design still has a slightly webbed look about it, but I like it.

The fourth one is ok but what happens if I give it a twist …

… not what I was expecting, but I like it!

Hope you enjoyed this week’s mid week retreat, and there will be another one mid week, next week.

Very interesting!
Piecing is rarely my first choice of making a quilt top, at least, not until the applique is finished, but I do like the first design today.

Also interesting, but I prefer the first one.

Nice!

Four blocks changed, and I like the results.

Bigger change, bigger results.

Four blocks changed again, but this time I prefer the version before the change.

Like the lighter centre … would look good in all the designs.

That’s is all for this week’s mid week mini retreat from whatever is happening around the world.

Nice fresh green … hope it brings nice new fresh growth on garden plants, not nice fresh weeds in the garden.

Love the second one.

A few miss-coloured pieces, but I love the first design. Or perhaps the miss-coloured pieces are part of the puzzle.

Quite a tangle!

I started this project fie to see how far I could go with one star block. It is not the simplest star block out there, but is is far less complex than many, including may I have designed.

The second design has the quilting lines which are simply outlines of the block design, and which disregard the placement of the fabrics, and even the missing pieces.

Every design in this series use 64 identical blocks known as Chimneys and cornerstones, or simply Cornerstones.

That means you can make the blocks while thinking about how you will arrange them in the final design.

I would advise that you concentrate while actually stitching to make sure you place all the fabrics in the correct order, and try to add any part of your fingers to the design.

Once you have a quarter of the blocks complete you can start playing on your design wall, or a bed or the floor to see what happens when you twist and ...

Not sure that i like pretty in pink Log Cabin designs, but any Log Cabin can be made in any combination of colours you desire. On the day I was playing with the colouring in these blocks I was in a pink mood!

White arrows pointing out from the centre going up and down, pink ones side to side, though the direction would vary depending on the way the quilt was on the bed.

In teh one above one corner is not like the other corners … must have been designed ...

Interesting!

I started playing with the block in the side borders in the Serendipity feature of Electric Quilt … EQ did the rest!

This is just one of many ways a square with a quarter circle can be arranged to make a 4P square, then put together to make a quilt design.

Many years ago I did some multiplying on a sheet of paper to work out how many ways a 4P square could be arranged, then kept multiplying until I had the number of ways four of those square could be put together.
The number reached level of annual government wages of public servants in most countries around the world. I decided that I would not spend the rest of my life ...

Very basic Log Cabin blocks in a not so basic arrangement.

Sixteen blocks turned 180 degrees … love the results!

Interesting, but what about making a bit of a change?

I think I like it more this way, but not a lot more.

Nearly the samr as the first one, but not a nice as the second one!
The gallery below will help you make up your mind which one you like best.

That is all for this week’s mini retreat/coffee break looking at Log Cabin quilt designs … more mid week, next week.

Interesting. I should have made the colours a bit more like a sea view … South Australia and Tasmania are separated by sea, bit not close enough for a direct sea link.

I like the second design, but the background should be sea like colour.

Interesting. In brighter colours it would look like somebody was celebrating something.

I like the second one, though I have just noticed one block should have been replaced … but looking again, I would replace all the other blocks in corresponding places with the one that shouldn’t be there.

This is what fireworks to welcome the new year look like when it is banned due to high temperatures and wind.

Not so bright or noisy as the real thing, which is usually a good thing on New Years Day.
I wish you all a happy, healthy and fun 2022!

Piecing is too fussy for me, but the colours make it look good to me!

The second one is interesting.

Ah, wow!

All the blocks in this project file are 9 patch blocks which have identical corners. In most of the designs I have used a pale fabric for the corners, but thought I should try at least a few with darker corners.

I much prefer pale corners which fade into the background, which means I like the second one better than the first, even though I like the design created by the dark centres in the first one much more than the second.
