I would be tempted to embroider the quilting designs, but either leaving it as quilted or embroidered I would do background quilting in a thread to match the background.
A project file which has been in hiding with many others for quite a few years, with some simple but unusual designs using a lot of whole squares and some squares made with half square triangles.
Some of the squares can have a little bit of applique, or perhaps embroidery motifs on them.
The stars have been modified in the second design, and the applique is on a larger square.
Very interesting start for a new project file, though i have to admit that the project file was started months ago, but got shoved into a corner until a few hours ago. I wonder how many more files are in hiding!
I always like mixing pieced blocks with applique designs … both in my virtual quilts and in real life.
I started this project file by selecting 11 blocks, along with some fabrics, and started playing. The fabric choices for these designs are a bit dull, but I like subdued colours in a bedroom rather than bright ones … I want my bedroom to be restful.
This project file started when I was teaching a small group some tricks to designing quilts in Electric Quilt quite a few years ago, using blocks from the EQ Library, but making changes to them to fit better into a design.
This colour collection sets a happy mood for me. Perhaps it is the combination of my Mums favourite colour, purple, Dad’s favourite colour green, and the gold of crops ready to reap so all the bills could be paid over the next year.
The send design is much more interesting, especially the centre bit.
I love the one above!
Neat and tidy and would look great on a bed in just about any colour combination. Remember that the trick with getting good results with any of the Log Cabin variations is to get the contrast right.
Interesting design to finish this weeks collection of Log Cabin designs.
That is all for this week’s Log Cabin retreat, but there will be more next week.
Very similar to yesterday’s designs in colour and style … but a different collection of designs. I have no idea why I have 2 project files so similar, but perhaps I missed my morning coffee one morning!
I am intrigued with the way the X shapes between the corner blocks become an extension of the blocks inserted amongst them.
Could have called this project file Field of Green, though considering that all the blocks are stars it should have been bright white and yellow in colour.
Lots of stars, and all on the same background star.
Filled a bin with green waste yesterday, but the back yard still looks lovely and green. Unfortunately most of the green is still weeds.
These blocks would be a bit more fiddly to make than the usual Log Cabin blocks, but the fabrics could be cut into strips and joined together and then cut into narrow strips to fir the blocks.
I think I should add more colours to the designs … one day when I have nothing to do and expect no interruptions! It probably wouldn’t work as when I don’t expect interruptions I get lots.
Are those crowns in the corners in the design above? Or birds without heads?
Another interesting one.
The one above is a slight alteration of the one above it! Less interesting, but I like it more.
The last design for this week’s mid week retreat (or coffee break) looks like an exploding star. It would be interesting to make with fading blocks around the centre star.
That is all for this week, but there will be another mid week Log Cabin retreat next week.
