After Pompeii OP 43, 44 from Virtual Quilter

Yesterday’s block set on point. Nice quilt design, but i can see it as a tiled floor, with kids hopping or jumping from one circle to another!

If these designs were on a bed in my house and small children were expected, I would shut the bedroom door firmly.

Inside the Logs 11, 12, 13, 14, 15 from Virtual Quilter

There are lots of possibilities using Log Cabin blocks as borders.

That is how I started this project file, but then I started playing with using some Log Cabin block variations as the background for applique.

The first design has Log Cabin blocks around the edges, and some very pale or washed out Log Cabin blocks with applique on solid blocks.

Then I asked myself a question … What if I use pieced blocks as background for the applique, sometimes, or all the time.

Then I thought that some inner borders to break up the light areas would be interesting.

Elevenses 79, 80 from Virtual Quilter

I love the first design today, but can see something I want to change … not a big change, but it needs to be changed.

The second design is boring when compared to the first one!

Wedding Fan 57, 58 from Virtual Quilter

If I had started quilting about 10 years before I did I would have made one of these designs to loan to newly wed children, nieces and nephews, for a month or so after their big day, adding the names and dates of each wedding … but by the time I started quilting some had already tied the knot, and now the next generation are making plans, and I am behind in making quilts for them to keep.

Maybe one of the next generation will become a quilter, and they can backdate the names to their great grandparents!

Logs in an Outback Garden 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 from Virtual Quilter

Introducing a project file with several variations of Log Cabin blocks along with a mixed bag of applique designs based on some of Australia’s native flora. It has taken about a month to sort out colours for the background Log Cabin blocks, but the colour of the flowers was easier as many of the varieties of flora native to this country might have different colour flowers, and most of them have red included in the family.

Some of the pieced backgrounds designs would look OK without the applique added, like the one above and below, but others, like the ...

V for Vera Floral and Star 1, 2 from Virtual Quilter

I decided I should start mixing up more pieced blocks with applique blocks.

The first design in this project file is all pieced blocks with some applique on four of them. Doesn’t need a lot of applique to make an impression!

In the second design the blocks are either pieced or applique, and now there is some quilting lines.
