Spool Star Holiday wreath from I Patch and Quilt

Do you remember the small wallhanging that I made using my foundation paper pieced Spool Star block? Playing with the Spool Star block is turning out very inspiring. So many ideas!

Let’s look at the first new layout, a Holiday wreath!

The traditional red and green, with some vintage-style blue and pink.

This block works so well with solids or blender-type fabrics, which I have a lot of….

Finally some tea! from I Patch and Quilt

So happy to announce that the ‘Tea with Kate’ kitchen quilt is finished.

This wall hanging will be on display hopefully soon on a wall near my kitchen. I am happy with how it turned out, even though all the stitching seemed to take for ever. </p>

Spool Star introductions from I Patch and Quilt

Quite a few years ago I drew some quilt designs in a notebook, which I promptly forgot about.

When cleaning and sorting through the papers in my sewing room this Summer, I came across this notebook again. One of the designs I had come up with, I want to present to you today. I have named the block ‘Spool Star’.

The block itself is derived from the traditional spool block, but constructed differently, thus making it possible to usetwo different colors in one block. Putting these block together will create interlocking stars. To some they may look like pinwheels instead ...

Terracotta Fiori Quilt Pattern Party & Giveaway from Brown Bird Designs Quilts

Over the pandemic, my love of indoor plants has become an obsession… I’ve been researching the plants I already have, and watching house plant tours on YouTube to learn about ones I’ve never seen or heard of. Terracotta pots have, found their way into my heart and living room. They are the inspiration behind my Terracotta Fiori Quilt Pattern. Grab yourself a drink and some snacks so we can toast to a pattern release day! I’m getting myself a glass of Ginger Lemonade — a little sweet, a little tart, and a whole lotta spicy. Plus a few ...

Busting the scraps from I Patch and Quilt

Most of my stash consists of FQs and half yard cuts. I love having a wide variety of fabrics to chose from. I store the FQ cuts (and wider cuts) in a bigger bin and the scraps in a smaller bins.

The thing is that I didn’t actually use the scraps once they were in those smaller bins. So these bins had fabrics in them that I wouldn’t buy again (my taste has changed) and fabrics that I had forgotten about.

So out came the rotary cutter!

Chop chop!

All the small bits were cut down to 2 ...

One for the brother. from I Patch and Quilt

My brother needed a new quilt, I decided.

A blue, teal and grey one to use on the couch while watching tv.

I found a great free pattern offered by Free Spirit. The design is by Tula Pink and it looks great in her fabric of course. But my brother is not really into pinks, oranges and greens, so I busted out my precious Libs Elliot and Giucy Giuce fabric collections and threw in some more extra goodies!

I started piecing just one type of the blocks and filled in the empty spaces with the second type. This way I ...

Gifting a Quilt & Gifting a Fish (?) from Heart Desire Creations

Lots and lots of quilts reside in my home. They’re on quilt racks, beds, sofas, a cupboard and a few walls. It’s not wall to wall quilts, but it does seem wasteful to me that they are not giving warmth somewhere. I have gifted many, many quilts and now it’s time to gift more!

A long time neighbor of 30 years is moving to a town north of here. We’re very happy for this new chapter in her life, but she has been an excellent neighbor and friend and will miss her. Yes, I’m going ...

This free pattern is foundation pieced, and the pattern when completed makes a King sized bed Quilt. The Pattern makes one quarter of the quilt, this means you will need to print the pattern four times to make a full quilt. My colour choices were white background with several shades of purple.
