I May Have A Scrap Problem... But This Quilt Could Cure It! from Confessions of a Fabric Addict

Hi, all!

You may have seen that I was doing some pattern testing for Christina Cameli of A Few Scraps - I got to make this beautiful quilt using her soon-to-be-released pattern called Light Speed...

It's a great pattern, fat quarter friendly and so easy to make!  But Christina also included some tips for making it scrappy, so I dug in my scrap boxes and came up with this completely, totally scrappy version...

This one was made with absolutely no rhyme or reason to the colors, prints, placement or anything - and I love its total scrappiness!  I think it would ...

Make-A-List Monday - Making Up For Lost Time! from Confessions of a Fabric Addict

Hi, all!

Here it is, another Monday rolling around - and that means another list!  This will be a different week, as I'm planning to paint my living room - hubby is out of town, so I can make a big mess and not have to worry about cleaning it up every evening! But before we get into this week's goals, let's take a look at last week's list.

1.  Try another test of Christina's pattern using scraps.
Done!  I made this one using all scraps, no color plan in mind, just what I had to hand ...

Make-A-List Monday - Back To Normal! from Confessions of a Fabric Addict

Hi all!

It is so nice to feel like things are starting to get back to normal!  Hands2Help is all tucked away for 2019, and I've had time to get back to my sewing machine, so I'm a happy camper!  I hope you've had a good week, and that your summer is starting off well.  We're starting off with a bang - Vacation Bible School is this week, so I've been having fun sewing at church while the kids are learning about Jesus!

Let's see how last week's list went...

1.  Package up and ...

Make-A-List Monday - It's Crunch Time! from Confessions of a Fabric Addict

Hi, all!

Monday has come again - and not just any Monday, but the one that begins the last week of the Hands2Help Challenge!  That means I will be spending a lot of time at the computer this week rather than at my sewing machine - but it's all worth it!

So let's see how last week's list went...

1.  Make a back for, and guilt the collaborative quilt.
Done!  I really like this one...

2.  Test a pattern for a friend.
Done!  This quilt is huge - but so quick and easy! Pattern is by Christina Cameli and should ...

Pattern Testing from Mama Spark's World

I have done some pattern testing in the past and  volunteered to do so for someone I have worked with previously.   Sterling Sewn.   Her other patterns were paper pieced and this one was pieced in the usual way.   It is always interesting to do this.  You hope all will go smoothly but often times it does not. The pattern is part of a larger set called Dino Party.   This first one is the

Finley Tote by Sotak Handmade from Ellyn's Place

Svetlana Sotak (Sotak Handmade)'s latest pattern released today and I was thrilled to pattern test for her again. I had bought some black vinyl at Quiltcon and thought it would be perfect for this bag. Since I have great confidence in Svetlana's patterns, I decided to splurge on the bag fabric itself. A quick trip to Hobby Lobby led me to this awesome faux suede that has the feel and appearance of embossed leather. Perfect!
The hardest thing about working with both of these fabrics was that I could not iron either of them. I tried pressing a ...

Brooklyn Tote Pack from Ellyn's Place

I'm so excited! Svetlana Sotak, at Sotak Handmade introduced her newest pattern today, the Brooklyn Tote Pack.  I was lucky to be chosen to pattern test this bag for her before I left for Quiltcon and I'm so happy with the outcome.

First I must tell you, when I saw the pattern, I decided I needed a plain denim bag and this was the perfect choice for it. If you've followed me for very long you know that "plain" is not usually in my vocabulary. I decided to do it anyways and the result was lovely...

Lovely ...

Irish Vortex by Shannon Fraser: Pattern Testing from Dizzy Quilts

Although things have been quite busy over here lately, when Shannon Fraser of Shannon Fraser Designs put out a call for pattern testers, I just had to do it!

But because things have been so busy, I decided to go with the baby size (the pattern will be available in 7 (yes 7!) sizes from baby to King). And I'm so happy I did! The pattern is super easy, quick and fun and the finished size is perfect for a table topper or a wall hanging (24" square).

And that is why I went with Halloweeny or Fall colours ...

Amber Clutch from Ellyn's Place

Svetlana Sotak from Sotak Handmade has done it again! Her newest pattern, the Amber Clutch, was released this week and I was lucky to get to pattern test for her again. Testing for Svetlana is such a pleasure, as her patterns are professionally done, easy to follow and produce such great finished products. This one was no exception.

I had some good sized pieces of my fifth Saturday challenge fabric sitting on my cutting table & decided it would make great bags. (don't worry, you'll get to see my actual challenge finish soon! I'm really happy with it ...

Mondrian Blocks from Ellyn's Place

I recently had the opportunity to test Jayne (Twiggy and Opal)'s new pattern for these awesome Mondrian Blocks. I had played with Mondrian style blocks before, nearly three years ago when my friend Chris requested them as bee blocks.  At that time, all I knew to do was to improv piece them (though honestly I didn't  realize then that improv was what I was doing!). Oh, but Jayne has made it so much easier with these paper pieced beauties!

Her pattern includes the two 9 inch blocks that I tested and mini 4 inch blocks too! It includes ...

WIPs With Friends from Mama Spark's World

I have been sewing when I get a minute, but it has been sporatic things.   I need to get my butt in gear and work on my pattern testing stuff and my kitty swap project.   I started on the pattern test block only to realize she needed to make some changes  ( or I should say, I wanted her to make some changes). This is the block, designed by Quilt Genius.  I can't wait to get started now

Mad Science Quilt (Pattern Tester edition) from Mama Spark's World

Anyone on Instagram knows that they use an algorithm for viewing posts.   This means that you don't often see the posts as they are written. I find it super annoying! Well, the other day I signed on and there was an amazing pattern by Quiltgenius (Mary Smith)  for a Mad Science quilt.   She had put out a call for pattern testers but with a VERY tight deadine  (especially for me, since I

Daphne Bag from Alamosa Quilter

I tried a new-to-me bag pattern. It's called the Daphne Handbag by Sallie Tomato.

It has two interior pockets, a zipper pocket and a slip pocket.

The bottom has a rectangle of Peltex between the layers for added stability as well as metal feet.

The hardware kit came with a metal zipper tab although the pattern also includes instructions for how to make and attach a fabric zipper tab if you prefer. I couldn't resist trying out the metal one.

I also splurged and purchased separately these metal fabric covered strap connectors to try them out too.

I ...

Petite Stitched Purse from Alamosa Quilter

I'm a bag pattern collector! I have every intention of making every bag pattern I buy, but it doesn't always work out that way. Now that I own a fabric store it's even worse. I see a cute pattern and buy one "to try out for the shop." I have quite a collection going now.

Recently I decided that I really need to make a commitment to make up some of these patterns. I'll file the ones I don't like and order more for the shop of the ones I do like.

I picked the ...

Modern Plus Sign Quilts Blog Hop {Pinwheel Plus Quilt} from Little Bunny Quilts

Today is my day to share as part of the Modern Plus Sign Quilts blog hop! I am so honored that Cheryl and Paige have asked me to make a quilt for the blog hop celebrating the release of their wonderful book!

This book is extremely fun because it incorporates a wide variety of different techniques to create striking modern quilts!

The quilt from the book that I've created is a smaller version of the Pinwheel Plus quilt. Here's a picture of the original quilt:

Scattered Squares – Pattern Testing from Needle and Foot

I have a finish to share with you!  It was actually my last finish of 2017 and I just barely made it.  I stitched the binding down on December 31st!  This fun quilt was made as a test for a new pattern designed by Sarah Goer, of Sarah Goer Quilts.  This is the second pattern I have tested for her.  (The first was Knock Knock and you can check that out here.)

Scattered Squares is a modern pattern designed with the idea of floating the smaller squares on a solid background.  It could be done any number of ways though ...

Giveaway Winner, Sneak Peaks and Other Exciting Stuff from Needle and Foot

In the excitement of the holiday weekend, Black Friday sales activities and other distractions, I forgot to draw the winner of the Make Wall Quilts e-book.  This morning, using my scientifically random system of drawing names ( Hey Julia, what is a number between 1 and 42?), Nancy was selected as the winner of the book.  Nancy, I hope you enjoy it and make some fun projects with it!  Remember, if you want a copy of the book – it is a bargain on Amazon. Truly – only $2.56 for the hard copy of the book.  Great gift for yourself or your ...

WIPs With Friends from Mama Spark's World

Sorry this is going up late but as you can imagine I have had lots to do since returning home! I did manage to work on a few things on Sunday.   I had volunteered to do some pattern testing for a friend and so made this adorable block.   Of course I now need an entire herd of these, right? Her pattern is not released yet, but soon.  I also managed to get binding made for the fish

Fabric Basket from Alamosa Quilter

I found a new basket pattern.

I put the spool of thread in the photo for scale.

Unfortunately, I didn't really like the pattern. It wasn't particularly difficult, but the results were less than stellar. This side looks okay, but the other side ... not so much. Oh well! Sometimes that's what you get with a free pattern. At least I didn't spend any money a pattern I don't like.
