Sunshine and Shadow: Manx log cabin coverlet from Charm About You

It would be nice to write about all the things I made this year before the end of the year is up!

One of the makes I'm most proud of, I finished in early autumn and it had been a while in the making. I started making this coverlet when Jenni Smith taught the Manx log cabin technique at Stitch Gathering in 2019.

Manx log cabin coverlet

This traditional technique involves measuring and ripping fabric strips by hand, folding and sewing the blocks by hand and sewing them together front and then back. I made all the blocks by hand, sewed the fronts ...

An Unexpected Hiatus from Needle and Foot

It has been so long since I have written a post, I hardly know where to begin! From mid-November to now, I have been sick with one thing after another. This has been incredibly annoying! There are so many respiratory viruses going around and I believe I have sampled all of them. Our area has been hit so hard that my primary care physician’s office is unable to see any respiratory/flu cases in person because the staff has come down with it and now they are very short handed. It is just wild. The kids have it the ...

Efterårs nyheder from Patchworkstuen

My Current Favorite from Needle and Foot

This quilt has been a long time in the works. It is ‘just a patchwork’, no complicated piecing, no fussy blocks, but oh I have wanted to make it for a really long time! There are a some really gorgeous quilts made with very bold colors which totally appeal to me. A while back, I started to collect pieces with powerful color and scale. When I had my shop, I would cut 1/3 yard of pieces that appealed to me and set them aside in a project bag. I got lucky at thrift stores and garage sales a number ...

Sensommer news from Patchworkstuen

Three requests from I Patch and Quilt

In about 5 weeks or so my brother and his wife will be welcoming their first child, a baby boy. The color scheme of the baby’s bedroom is based on a soft minty color that has a grey undertone. They gave me a color swatch in the form of a the paint stick they had used and asked me to match it in a baby quilt.

I was able to match it pretty perfectly! Yay for big fabric stashes!

Most of my fabric stash is actually made up out of Fat Quarters, so I can add a lot of ...

A dress and a bit of patchwork from A Beautiful Day - O Zi Frumoasa

I had an old T-shirt in a good shape and a piece of fabric that I bought a long time ago with no purpose in mind, just because I loved it. I had also a box full of fabric pieces.

So, in an afternoon I improvised a patchwork block and I sewed it on an interfaced backing. Then I measured the circumference of the T-shirt, then I sewed together the short edges of the piece of fabric making a cylinder and I wrinkled the top edge of it until I obtained a circumference equal to that of the T-shirt. I ...
