Newborn Charity Quilt from Mulberry Patch Quilts

Mikayla’s Grace is a wonderful charity in my area of Wisconsin that supports families with a baby in the NICU (neonatal ICU) and those who experience the death of a child or pregnancy loss at hospitals in the Dane County area.

Crafters from all over make beautiful handmade baby items that they sew, knit or crochet and send to Mikayla’s Grace — from gowns, hats, and booties, to baby blankets and quilts. Several times a year volunteers meet to assemble these donations into care packages and deliver them to local hospitals to distribute.

Melissa recently sent out an email ...

One block modern quilt from Pieced Brain

One block modern quilt

Download this free pattern for an easy one-block modern quilt. It’s great for beginner quilters and seasoned sewists!

Island Breeze is the quilt I designed for Danielle Hartgers’s Zanzibar collection for Blank Quilting. It measures 62″ x 74″ and has 12″ blocks. Although the block looks complex, it is easy to assemble, requiring only half-square triangles. What do you think of those fabrics?

I, for one, am smitten by these prints! Danielle was inspired when she assembled this beautiful fabric collection, with geometric lines invoking tiles and natural elements in neutral tones that will complement any home decor ...

Add a Quilt Block to Your Sweatshirt from Mulberry Patch Quilts

This week’s challenge for Project Quilting (Season 15.5) is “wearables”. You can turn clothing into something else or “quilt-ify” something you wear or make a clothing-themed item.

Here are the normal rules, and you have one week from start to finish to meet the challenge.

  • Every challenge piece must be a FINISHED project seen through from INCEPTION to COMPLETION during the challenge timeline.
  • Each piece must stand alone as DONE to count toward prizes.
  • Your project does not need to be a traditional quilt, but must meet at least one of these requirements: include patchwork, include appliqué, have ...

Fabric Tray for Project Quilting Challenge from Mulberry Patch Quilts

This week the Project Quilting 15.4 challenge is hour glass”

I knew just the block I wanted to use. Half square triangles pieced into a shimmering star. You can see the hour glass shape in the white star tips!

It was a very simple project and was cut, sewn, quilted & completely done in only an hour and a half.

After making 8 half square triangles, I added 8 squares to make 4 blocks measuring 4.5” (4” finished) each. Then I sewed the 4 blocks together forming the star (8.5”, 8”;finished). Next I simply added a 2 ...

“Inside Out” Quilted Heart Wall Hanging Mini from Mulberry Patch Quilts

When I saw the Challenge from Project Quilting for this week “Inside Out” the first thing I thought of was a rag quilt, or a quilt with raw seam edges showing on the right side. NOPE. (Everyone will be doing that.)

So next I looked up the phrase online. Besides the title of a new cartoon Disney movie, most posts were about how to “birth” a quilt by sewing the top & backing/batting right sides together & leaving a seam open to turn right side out to finish it instead if binding. NOPE.

Nothing else I saw or read inspired me ...

How to use old jeans for sewing a quilt. Some useful tips to make your work easier from A Beautiful Day - O Zi Frumoasa

abeeautifulday.blogspot.com-How to use old jeans for sewing a quilt

I like denim. I’ve always liked to wear jeans, denim jackets, denim shirts or pinafore dresses. So, the desire to make a quilt from this kind of cloth came naturally. I asked my family and friends to give me jeans they no longer wore, and in time I managed to collect about 15-20 pairs.

In August 2023 I decided to use this pattern and started making the quilt using 10 pairs of jeans and two men's shirts. I finished it in January 2024 after taking about a three-month sewing break.

When it comes to sew quilts made of ...

Christmas Mix of Beads 11, 12 from Virtual Quilter

I like the first design.

Very interesting design. I might have to change things for future designs in this project file.

I wonder what it would look like in shades of gold, and should it be on a light background, or a dark one? Something to play with before next Christmas.

Modern quilt pattern for home decor

This modern quilt pattern for home decor looks complex, but it’s easy! Beginner blocks and contrasting colors combine for a stunning effect!

Candyboard by Pieced Brain

This is Candyboard, my latest quilt pattern available at my Etsy Store. It measures 64″ x 76″ with blocks that finish at 12″. I designed it for the Tonga Honeycomb batik collection by Timeless Treasures. You know how much I love batiks, right? Hex Is Gone Quilt from Quiltmanufaktur

Meeting with friends quilts. Pattern release from A Beautiful Day - O Zi Frumoasa

I am so glad that after long time, I finally have great news: I just released two quilt patterns!

In the late fall of 2021, while the rules imposed in the Pandemic kept us far from each other, I made some patterns for some mini quilts, good to use as coasters. For one of them I wrote the pattern because I realized that it is not only beginner friendly, but also you need only an hour or two to make it. I chose squares, rectangles and half square triangles to play with.
