Rio Ringer night dress from Espritpatch

As soon as Kelly released the Rio Ringer top and dress, I bought the pattern and printed it. It was the perfect candidate for the #sewtogetherforsummer loungewear challenge and looked like a great pattern for a summer nightdress. It is also one of the 2 patterns for May for Sew My Style. I also washed my fabric promptly and then everything sat there because I was working on other projects. I didn't manage to join the sew-along but sometimes delays are a blessing. Kelly presented some hacks on her blog after the sew-along, including a scoop neck version that ...

A little Acacia from Espritpatch

Only one pair of Acacia, that I had cut at the same time as the Comox trunk but that I hadn't assembled until now because of the quilting. Leftover fabric from my first ever piece of dressmaking... I didn't know where I was setting my foot back then!

One OPAM and one of my Q2 FAL list

A finish quilt - Sky! from Espritpatch

After my "quilting marathon", this week has been a lot less productive in a way... but I am happy to report that one of the 5 quilts is now completely finished and ready to be gifted.

Sky was my One monthly goal for May as I wanted to gift it to our neighbour for his 70th birthday next week.

I made this quilt from the pile of long forgotten blue blocks that I "discovered" early April when I went through a few drawers in my sewing room.

The backing fabric was a leftover piece from another quilt, which turned out ...

Comox trunks from Espritpatch

Why did it take me so long to finally try this pattern, I am not sure.... I bought the Comox Trunk pattern by Thread Theory a while ago. I printed it and assembled it as well but somehow I never went further. Maybe I was put off by the number of pieces required for such a small garment. I knew it would be a great scrap buster too.

Finally I cut it out on Friday night with some leftover jersey fabric from PJ I made for my daughter and hubby.
I even made the binding from the fabric even though ...

Scrubs from Espritpatch

Finally! 5 full sets complete, ready to be handed back and distributed to front line workers in my local hospital.

I had never before made 5 identical garments at the same time,  I almost felt like a factory worker, apart that I had to complete all the tasks myself!  I can't say I found it enjoyable to repeat the same tasks so many times but I was happy to be able to contribute to the national effort to protect medical staff.
I was nearly done but caught a facing while overlocking...
thankfully I received extra fabric from my coordinator ...

Last of the Tea Towels! from Thread Head

I finished weaving the last set of tea towels from kits I bought from Jane Stafford Textiles in January (I had originally thought these would be a year long project, but I was so glad I had bought them all when life changed).

Fresh off the loom - the kit made 8 towels, each over 30" long before washing.

I added about 18" extra warp, and still had plenty of cotton leftover when finished.

Fresh off the loom the fabric looked like this-

the white line (crochet ...

Andra Tutto Bene from Espritpatch

Clouds Factory released a free rainbow pattern "Andra Tutto Bene" in March during the worst of the coronavirus pandemic in Italy. I downloaded it and ordered sky blue iridescent Aida fabric and DMC threads from Cross Stitch Workshop to make it promptly. Although it is quite small and easy, it took much longer than I anticipated but it is now finished and I will keep it as a memory of this unusual time we are going through.

Another OPAM for April and one more of my Q2 FAL list.

PJ from Espritpatch

My kids seem to be forever growing! I make them PJ, turn my back and it seems that's it, they need new ones because the ones I just seem to have finished (a few months before... admittedly) are just too short. During the Black Friday sales, I spotted this lovely glow-in-the-dark moon and stars jersey on the Fabric Godmother website, that I knew would make perfect PJ for my eldest daughter. I duly ordered 2 meters that have sat in my stash since.

Earlier in the month, I showed it to my daughter, which was enough to get her ...

NHS scrubs from Espritpatch

With the COVID-19 pandemic, there has been various calls to people who are able to sew to help out. I answered one to my local hospitals to make some scrubs for front-line workers. The pieces were already cut out and delivered last week. I volunteered to make 5 sets in total. The pattern was shared with us, and being an industrial patterns, instructions were rather scarce and basic.
When I received the sets last week, I started with the tunic top and went as far as nearly finishing it but I wasn't sure where to stop the side seams ...

Scrub bags from Espritpatch

With the current epidemic, every little help and I was humbled to be able to make some wash bags for the hard working front line workers to wash their uniforms in.

I went into deep dive in my stash for some suitable fabric for the first batch of bags I made and managed 12 bags that will go to my local hospital shortly. Those one were threaded with some cord I bought from my local shop via phone.
My neighbours contributed to my efforts by giving me some of their old beddings to cut off.
I made 13 more bags ...

Night dress - oops! from Espritpatch

During Black Friday sales, I stocked up on a few fun prints from Fabrics Galore to make night dresses. After experimenting with the Lark Tee pattern by Grainline Studio, I settled on an elongated crew neck style. I traced the pattern adding 11' in length and  using size 12 for the bust,  14 for the waist and 16 for the hips.

Of course the garment comes together quickly on the overlocker, it's only 5 pieces after all.

But maybe it's not a, good idea to sew it up after having had wine.... because oops, I mixed up the ...

New PJ from Espritpatch

I have used the pattern a dozen of times probably now, so it should have been fast and easy to make one more, surely. I cut a new pair of PJ for my son from the 11th gear pattern by New Horizons Designs, last Thursday and set about to sew it up on Saturday afternoon.

I made the top out of a leftover from the Givre tee I made myself last year. Apart from sewing the neckline twice, this was relatively straightforward.
It was a very different story for the joggers! Using plain black is always confusing as there is ...

Face masks from Espritpatch

Some useful/helpful sewing this afternoon, I used some scraps of double gaze left over from my Zadie jumpsuit to make some face masks. I used the pattern/tutorial from Bijou Lovely's website.

I have made 7 so far and might make more if this becomes useful.

This is one OPAM that I, of course, had not planned or envisaged making.

PJ! from Espritpatch

The only person in the family not to get anything hand-made recently is my son. And he's growing so fast that he could do with new stuff. Although at his age, hand-made is restricted to things other won't see

Another night dress from Espritpatch

After my successful first attempt with the pink animal print, I decided to make another night dress, based on exactly the same pattern with a gorgeous organic cotton I had in my stash. I had already used some to make a Blackwood cardigan before but I had plenty left. The only difficulty with this one was to match the stripes. So I took a long time to cut the pieces and I cut them flat to ensure they would all the straight! So the cutting took quite some time.

Of course the assembling was straightforward and quite fast on my ...

Hankies from Espritpatch

Last month I bought a collection of cotton fabric planning to make hankies for the family with them. Well I am glad to report I have finally started! I cut in the first one last week, a lovely thin stripe fabric I bought from Fabworks Mill Work.

I cut a number of squares about 14' and some more about 10' to make his and hers. I also wanted to try a variety of techniques for the edges.

I tried the perfect mitered corner method from By Hand London blog and that was easy to follow as well as giving a ...

It's pink and bright! from Espritpatch

I have been meaning to make night dresses for a long time and have been looking for a pattern for it but I couldn't find anything suitable. Most patterns are for PJ sets or lounge wear. What I wanted really was a long sleeves T-shirt dress. I had this crazy wild and bright Jersey in my stash for a while so I figured I could use for a wearable toile. I picked the Lark Tee pattern by Grainline studio that I had made once before. I choose the boat neck portion option and cut a size 12 for the ...

February Round Up from Thread Head

February was a good month for me to finish a few big projects.

At the beginning of the month I finished a Pineapple Quilt (only took 4 years!).

I started this handspun tunic early last year by cleaning and preparing the wool. Spun the yarn over the summer, and started knitting it at the beginning of September.

I also finished knitting a hat out of some handspun yarn that I had dyed with indigo (this one had been my take-along/car knitting project).

I was really pleased to have started and finished weaving some fabric for my Mom in the ...

Pincushions from Thread Head

I belong to Kathleen Tracy's (from A Sentimental Quilter) online group called Small Quilt Talk. For Valentine's Day there was a pincushion challenge. I made a little crazy quilt heart out of some leftover French General fabric, and an old key with a heart shaped opening.

I used a piece of wire so that the pincushion could hang up - let's be honest it is more of an ornament than a practical pincushion.

It is an addition to my other pincushions I have made over the years. The oldest one is the felt one with my initials that ...

Horse time from Espritpatch

Late last month I picked up my abandoned passport pieced horse from a pattern by Tartan Kiwi, with the hope to finish it for my daughter's birthday. Well I'm glad to say that having a deadline once more helped to keep me focused. The horse is finished and gifted! Yeah
