Squaring up and Making a Path from Podunk Pretties

Can you believe it?  A Podunk Picnic is off the quilting frame and ready to be squared up.  I think that was the fasted I've ever quilted a quilt of this size. 70 x 90 or 75 x 90...well it's somewhere close to those numbers.   Sitting for hours sewing the binding on is a well deserved break.

But before squaring up and attaching the binding I need to clear a path for the delivery of packages. The six inches of snowfall has made huge snowdrift on the front walkway and porch. I'm pretty sure the deliveries ...

A Friday Flimsy and Cleaning The Quilter from Podunk Pretties

Happy Friday Quilting Friends!  First I want to thank all of you who shared your thoughts on naming this quilt.  It's unanimous, she will officially be named A Podunk Picnic.  You all know me well and have chosen the perfect quilt name.

Bonnie's mystery quilts are usually inspired by an event of some sort throughout the year.  One year she went to China and the quilt that year was inspired by all the colors she saw during her visit.  And since this one is called On Ringo Lake, I'm pretty sure she visited Ringo lake in 2016 ...

On Ringo Lake Quilt Top Finish from Podunk Pretties

Hello Happy Quilters!  The sun is shining here in Podunk.  Maybe not outside but inside it's sunny and 70 degrees.  The On Ringo Lake quilt top has been finished for a couple of days.  The backing was made from 2 different green prints pulled from my yardage stash.  A yellow backing was my first thought because I knew I had about 8 yards of white dots on yellow but my goodness it was just too much yellow.

The green print is from Choice Fabrics called Treasures From the Attic.  And the green dots is from RJR called Crazy For ...

Making Changes to On Podunk Pond Quilt from Podunk Pretties

One of the great things about quilting is there's more than one way to do just about anything. If you don't like making half square triangles by cutting and sewing two triangles together you have other options.  There's techniques to make two at a time, four at a time, eight at a time and rolls of paper for making oodles at a time.   The unit below is for the inset border triangle of my version of Bonnie Hunters quilt pattern On Ringo Lake.  The pattern calls for these units to be oversized and trimmed down after piecing ...

Leaders and Enders Design Ideas from Podunk Pretties

Okay I'll admit it, I jumped into this leaders and enders thing with absolutely no idea what I was going to make with them.  The fabrics were already cut so I just started sewing them together.  Making the process a habit was my only concern.  Now that I'm nearing the end of my little stash of blue and yellow squares I need a plan before going any further.  And that plan needs to fit into what I've already haphazardly sewn together.

These squares were leftover from a simple charm quilt I made last year.

The thought has ...

On Podunk Pond Assembly Line from Podunk Pretties

Happy Monday Quilting Friends!  It's days like today that make me thankful for my happy place.  Outside it's going to be another cold, gloomy and gray winter day in Indiana.  But inside it's bright and happy like a warm spring day.  The sweet smell of the lilac candle in the living room has drifted into the Studio giving me the illusion of spring.  My brightly color version of Bonnie Hunters quilt pattern called On Ringo Lake is singing to me....

Progress with Leaders and Enders from Podunk Pretties

Hello Happy Quilters!  Come on in and join me in doing a little happy dance.  I can't tell you how happy it makes me to have finally mastered the leaders and enders method.  This method of piecing 2 quilts at once has been around for many years but Bonnie Hunter is the one who brought it to life.  She has written 2 books just for this method.  You can find them here in her shop.

I was hoping to share a video made by Bonnie about this method but she hasn't made a short video tutorial about leaders ...

Moo-ving On Ringo Lake from Podunk Pretties

Well here we are, a New Year and a time when some of us think about a fresh start.  I'm looking forward to what the new year will bring.  Many of you, like me, might be considering finishing up some UFO's and planning for new quilt-a-longs.  There's a couple quilt-a-longs I've been thinking about joining but nothing is set in stone.  Right now I'm working on a 3 year old mystery quilt called On Ringo Lake by Bonnie Hunter.   Bonnie's patterns are great for scrap busting but I usually cut mine from scraps, fat ...
