There are some interesting shapes created by the background blocks.

Different. Very different in fact.

read moreI am trying to break away from pink, purple and green!
This project file has been sitting around being ignored for two years, probably because it is in colors I wouldn’t want to live with. However, strong colours in a dull environment can liven up the surroundings.
I love the second design, but I admit that it would lose a lot of impact if it was in my preferred colour range.
read moreInteresting!
Love the second design.
The blocks in this series have a lot of pieces, but there are no set in pieces, but there are some sharp points.
read moreSame blocks as yesterday, but green. I like the first one.
I like the second one too, though it does remind me that the weeds are growing again after rain over the last week.
read moreLots of purple pieces!
I think these designs are a bit too busy for the average bedroom but it is fun playing with the blocks to see what happens.
I think I should try using less blocks, and if a big quilt is needed make the blocks bigger.
Guess what music will be going round and round like a record in my head today!
read moreAll nine patch blocks, many of them rather basic nine patch, with some interesting results.
And some stunning results. Love the second design!
read moreSome basic 9 Patch blocks and just two fabrics can make some stunning designs, in this case with a narrow sashing with contrast squares.
The most basic of the blocks has been slightly modified to create the diagonal border blocks, which can be used not just as borders.
read moreOn point setting … and the four stars around the centre are made up by the corner sections of four blocks which meet in the centre squares of those four stars.
The second design is a straight setting, but once again the stars surrounding the centre block are created when the corners of the four blocks meet.
read moreLove the first design today, but guess what is missing from the corners!
Lots to like about the second, including quilting motifs in the corners.
read moreNice, but pretty busy.
Love. love, love the second design!
Love how the darker background fabric becomes the feature fabric in the outer row of blocks, and the way the central blocks are linked discretely by the two lighter fabrics.
read moreTwo fabrics, 9P blocks, and lots of space to show off some quilting.
My favourite for today is the one above.
I like the blank spaces in all of these … but then I always like space to feature quilting motifs.
read moreThough I have used just two fabrics, this would work well with dark and light fabric scraps if they are well sorted, and all the medium fabrics ae saved for another project. Using one multicoloured fabric is my way of making a quick scrappy quilt in Electric Quilt, instead of using 35 dark and 43 light fabrics and mixing them up in five or six colourations of each and every block, which in this case are 9 patch blocks.
If I was to make these into real quilts instead of virtual, I would possibly use just one plain background fabric ...
read moreAll the blocks in this project file are 9 patch blocks which have identical corners. In most of the designs I have used a pale fabric for the corners, but thought I should try at least a few with darker corners.
I much prefer pale corners which fade into the background, which means I like the second one better than the first, even though I like the design created by the dark centres in the first one much more than the second.
read moreIn today’s designs I have used the same colours and blocks as yesterday … just tipped them over a bit. The most intersting thing is how the border blocks work om point in comparison to being set straight.
I like the second one!
By the way, did you notice the mistake?
I didn’t until I was ready to hit the publish button! Should have had more coffee!
read moreWhen I chose these fabrics I wanted almost plain primary colours to play with … I try yo avoid primary colours in general, so this was a challenge to see if I could make them work.
I also wanted to use some very basic pieced blocks to create some complicated designs.
I have made it work, and I love the blue border made with very basic 9 patch blocks.
read moreI have a large collection of 9 patch blocks created by mixing up the corner four squares with different centre squares … and of course the squares in the middle of each side of the nine patch blocks.
The design above shows a quilt with nine patch blocks with the same corner squares in each block and the same centre squares, and the side squares left plain.
The two designs below have the same pattern in the centre of each side, and some of the designs created in this way are rather good, even if I do say so myself.
These ...
read moreMy night vision was to create 9 patch blocks which formed a secondary pattern when used side by side … and I started playing as soon as I woke up next morning. My next block sorting project will be to add the corners to the 9P blocks which have blank corners.
The one above uses three blocks, one with just pieced comers, the others with different cross style pieced in the bank spaces of the design used in the corners. Not all corners will work with all the cross style blocks, but it will still become a large collection of designs.
read moreA new project using 9 patch blocks, with room for two different red fabrics, plus white. It took a couple of false starts before I was happy with the combination of fabrics, but like the choice in the first couple of designs I am sharing.
As soon as I had these two designs to share I tried some other colours … I will save them for the next couple of days!
