June 2023 monthly recap.............. from Exuberant Color

One finish for June.  That makes 11 finishes so far this year.

I have been calling this one light Winged Square because I made a second quilt with all of the dark blocks.  This one is 46.5" x 70", a perfect cover up for an afternoon nap.

It has Hobbs 80/20 batting, light beige Superior So Fine thread on top, cream color Superior Bottom Line in the bobbin.

The backing is an older Philip Jacobs fabric called Blowsey, one of my favorites.

The binding is by Brandon Mably, one of the Kaffe Collective group.

There was also just ...

May 2023 monthly recap.................... from Exuberant Color

Two finishes again for May.  That makes 10 so far this year.  On the left is Kaffe fabric Rail Fence baby quilt, 38" x 52".  On the right Pink Twisted Ribbons, fabrics from many years of collected stash, 35" x 48".

Two new quilt tops, numbers 16 and 17 for the year so I'm still having too much fun making new quilt tops and dragging my feet quilting and finishing them.  On the left Pastel Diamonds is 49" x 72.5".  On the right Prints and Solids: Stars, 63" x 72".

For my own record, this top was finished ...

April 2023 monthly recap ............ from Exuberant Color

This is the 4th month in a row that I have had 2 finishes.  I hope I can keep up that pace.

Red Hot on the left is 62.5" x 81".  My Fantasy Garden is 53.5" x 64".  It is much brighter and prettier than this photo.

Another month of more new quilt tops than finishes...which means I'm having fun.

Bars: Australian fabric is 51.5" x 75".  The muted color blend top is 20" x 33".  Pink ribbons is 36" x 48".  Australian Zig Zag is 36" x 45".  Colorwash made with rectangles is 32 ...

January 2023 monthly recap............ from Exuberant Color

There were 2 total finishes in January, one at the beginning of the month and the other at the end. The neutral color batik quilt on the left is 54" x 74.5".  On the right is Scrappy Friendship Star 47" x 59".

In between those 2 finishes I made 5 quilt tops.  Two of them were made from Kaffe fabric strips that were cut about 10 years ago so they went together fast.  Top left is a 16 patch baby quilt top 40.5" square.  Bottom left is Chroma Zone, all 9 patches with 5 light/4 dark.  Most ...

December 2022 monthly recap and Happy New Year!.......... from Exuberant Color

In December I had 2 finishes.  If I hadn't had so many problems when quilting the larger one I might have gotten another quilted.  Gridlock, the large one is my version of the one of the same name in Kaffe Fassett's book Glorious Patchwork.  It is 65" x 91".  I finished the top in late November 2021 so it took a year to get it in the quilting lineup.  The colorwash is 29.5" square and is made of all batik fabrics.

Two fairly large quilt tops were finally sewn together too.  The one on the left is ...

November 2022 monthly recap.............. from Exuberant Color

Two finishes for November and again one just squeaking in before midnight of the last day of the month.  The mottled batik 16 patch quilt is 55.5" x 71", a nice throw quilt size.  The Sunshine and Blackbirds is 36" x 45.5", a crazy pieced wall hanging made of all batik fabrics.

Thanks to one simple, less than 24 hour quilt top, I finished 3 tops, all with Kaffe Fassett yarn dyed woven stripes and one with his shot cottons added.  The Other 16 Patch on the left is 63" x 81", the very simple 12 fabric quilt ...

October 2022 monthly recap.............. from Exuberant Color

One finish for October.  The top was made in January 2021. The finished size is 56.5" x 80.5".  I have made over 25 sixteen patch quilts and this is the only one that I placed the blocks on point.

I made 5 quilt tops and I have them in 2 collages.  The Log Cabin quilt on the left was made from blocks assembled in previous months and squares made of 2 prints were added to make the star blocks.  It is 63" x 84".

The batik colorwash is 32" x 31.5".

The Square Within, my version of ...

Monthly recap for September 2022 from Exuberant Color

No complete finishes in September but I did get a quilt top sewn together.  I started this quilt on July 6th and finished the top on September 22nd.  I have named it Charley in the Forest.  It is all Kaffe Fassett collective and Charley Harper fabrics except for one Martha Negley print.  The complete story is back on this post.  There were so many decisions to make on this one and I really wasn't sure how big it was going to be when I started.

In the previous 2 months I had 6 finishes and no quilt tops so ...

Monthly recap for August 2022........... from Exuberant Color

August ended with 3 finishes and no quilt tops completed.  On the left is Winged square or Cut Glass Dish, 47" x 58.5".  In the middle is Matrix, a Springleaf Studios pattern, 52" x 73".  On the right, I have just been calling it Kaffe 4 Stars, and it is 58" x 84".  My totals for the year so far, 14 finished and 15 quilt tops.  I have 3 tops in progress so maybe next month I will get at least one of them to completion.

For my own information I need to add the stats for this one ...

July 2022 Monthly recap............... from Exuberant Color

I had 3 finishes for July, no new quilt tops, yay!!  Of course there are at least 3 quilt tops in progress so.....

The African colorwash wallhanging is 34" x 42", the yellow zig zag sweet little baby quilt is 29" x 35" and the quarter square yellow quilt is 55" x 71".  Yellow is my favorite color so these 2 make me very happy.  I love the African colorwash too and I'll probably keep it until I make the next even better one some day.  This is #3 in the series.

The details of this quilt were on ...

June 2022 monthly recap............... from Exuberant Color

Three quilt tops were sewn in June.  The colors are so much different in real life although the zig zag is truer color than the quarter square triangle top.  The small one is 30" x 36" and the larger one is 56.5" x 72.5".   I think I will make one more yellow quilt top while the fabrics are out and then I need to destash the yellows that are left.

This is the third quilt top made in June.  It is 56" x 75".  The details about it are on this post.

I almost finished the quilting on ...

May 2022 monthly recap............... from Exuberant Color

The only finish for the month of May was done early in the month before the gardening season started.

It is 38.5" x 54".  It was started in 1991 and finally finished 31 years later.

The only other sewing was my mindless evening sewing on two projects.  All blocks are made for the one on the left and 1/3 of the blocks are made for the one on the right.

The rest of the month was spent exploring the gardens, seeing what survived the winter and planting some new varieties.

The ferns are doing well on the north ...

April 2022 monthly recap............. from Exuberant Color

2 finishes for the month.  The Spring Pastel 16 patch is 63" x 79" and the Economy Block quilt is 64" x 80".  The Economy block was fun because it is made of all 6" components, center square, quarter square triangles and half square triangles.  I used a combination of Studio and GO dies to cut the pieces.

The quilt top on the left is from 30 years ago and just needed side borders to make the proportion a little better.  It is 38.5" x 54" so it will take just one width of fabric for the back.  It ...

Monthly recap for March 2022 from Exuberant Color

The binding is done for one finish in March.  The best part of my finishes this year is that half of them are large quilts.  This top was completed in 2018 and now in 2022 is completed.  It is 75" x 87" after quilting.

The backing is an older Philip Jacobs fabric with a soft green background.  I think it looks great with the front of the quilt.

And another photo just because the fabrics are so pretty.

Once again I made more tops than finishes.  What a surprise.  I wonder if I'll ever have a month with more ...

February 2022 monthly recap.............. from Exuberant Color

Two flannel quilts were pieced and finished in February.  Both were cut with my Studio die cutter.  The bricks quilt on the left is 55" x 75" and it finally used up most of my pink, blue, and burgundy flannels. The tumbler quilt is made with 9" tumblers and ended up 69" x 89".  I hope I can finish a couple more flannel quilts this month.

Here are my 3 quilt tops of the month.  The one on the left was just waiting (for 11 years) for its border.  It is  48.5" x 58.5".  I'll post more ...

Monthly recap for December 2021 from Exuberant Color

My last finishes for 2021 were one quilt and 19 table mats.  The quilt was one of 3 pink quilt tops I made in May and I wanted to wrap up that series by the end of the year.  This one is 47.5" x 63.5".  The other 2 were smaller.

I ended up making 19 table mats that are 8.5" x 11" from the Marcia Derse scraps left from the Gridlock quilt top project last month. They are flatter than a mug rug with a layer of stiff interfacing and one layer of fusible batting and finished ...

Monthly recap for November 2021.......... from Exuberant Color

Down to the wire I finished a second quilt for November.  The one on the left is a Moda pattern called Simply Woven and I made it with all batiks.  It is 39.5" x 59".  On the right is a batik colorwash 39" square.

The quilt top that I worked on all month is 68" x 92".  The inspiration quilt is in the Kaffe book "Glorious Patchwork" which was published in 1997.  I made mine with all Marcia Derse fabrics and it is one row longer than the one in the book.

Yesterday I decided I could finish one ...

October 2021 monthly recap.............. from Exuberant Color

I had one finish for October, a floral colorwash wallhanging.  It is 30" square.

I'm about 3/4 done with another colorwash but couldn't quite make the deadline.

I completed 3 quilt tops.  The one on the left was started over 20 years ago and I still love the fabric in it.  It is 40" x 64".  The middle one is Moda's Simply Woven pattern and it measures about 48" x 60".  It is made of all batiks.  The beauty on the right is Autumn Coneflowers 2 and it is 64" x 80" and made of all ...

Monthly recap for September 2021 from Exuberant Color

I had two finishes early in the month of September.  The one of the left is 39" x 47" and the one on the right is 29" x 41".  That gives me a total of 12 quilts and 3 tablerunner finishes for the year.  I have made 20 quilt tops this year, sold 6 of them and quilted 5 and gifted one of the finished quilts.

I probably could have gotten the Coneflower 16 patch sewn together but decided to get some outside garden work done instead.  I hope we have a lot of rainy days in October for the ...

Monthly recap, August 2021 from Exuberant Color

I had 2 finishes, just under the wire.  The pineapple log cabin quilt is 44" x 55" and the scrappy quarter log cabin quilt is 70.5" x 87".  That takes one more off my "large quilt tops" list.  That is where I have the most waiting to be finished.

I was happy to finish 4 quilt tops in August.  The small Economy block quilt top is 41.25" square, below it the Kaffe pastel 16 patch quilt top is 40" x 48".  In the middle, made with Kaffe collective fabrics and the Matrix pattern (by SpringLeaf Studios) is 53 ...
