How to work with Textured Backgrounds from Fat Quarter Shop's Jolly Jabber

Solid backgrounds work well in quilts but have you tried a textured background? We did a post about white backgrounds using Bella Solids from our favorite Moda designers and, with the recent influx of cross weaves and linens, wanted to do a follow up to that […]

Falling Leaves from Random Thoughts... do or "di"

Who doesn't love Fall? And a fall quilt is even better; so for my friend, Monika's birthday, I made her a Falling Leaves quilt. The pattern is by Vanessa Christensen. It's actually a kit. Her ombre fabrics are yummy and make these leaves pop on the background of the Robert Kaufman yarn dyed charcoal fabric.

This was the first quilt that I used a stencil to mark some registration lines before I quilted it. Why have I never done this before? Although my quilting is far from perfect, the stencil did help me to quilt it more ...

The Nesting Box from Fat Quarter Shop from Seacoast Quilter

The Fat Quarter Shop has just released a special mystery box celebrating spring. They are also starting their third year of the monthly Sew Sampler box. I've been receiving it for a year now and have never been disappointed. I've loved all the fabric (and ordered more of several) and the notions have been perfect. I am using every one they've sent. The Nesting Box arrived sometime over the weekend while I was at a Jacqueline DeJonge retreat (more about this another day).

The Nesting Box was shipped in this nice spring green box (photo doesn't ...

Yippie ~ It’s here! from Thistledown & Co.

Woo - Hoo !
Spring has arrived and I’m coming out of hibernation.
You’d think that I would have had plenty of time to blog throughout the winter but it just didn’t happen. I guess I’ve been busier than I thought keeping my parents healthy and entertained through the dreary winter months. When it comes down to it, that of course, is most important and a more precious use of my time.
After 3 years of residing back here in Wisconsin, and learning to embrace winter, I’m happy to see winter losing its grip. Spring is here ...

~ Getting Romantic ~ from Podunk Pretties

As soon as I saw this new line of fabric I fell in love.  This is First Romance by Kristyne Czepuryk of Pretty by Hand, made for Moda.  Isn't it just the sweetest?   Now comes the hard part...cutting away the plastic and removing the ribbon.

It took a little time I finally did it...And OH MY GOODNESS!  My knees went weak and my heart began to flutter.  Two hours later I came to my senses and chose a few little lovelies for my next quilt.  Before this line was released for sale I started designing quilts just ...

By The Sea baby quilt from Zarkadia Quilts

Summertime…who wants it to be over? Who had a great time this summer? Who fell in love this summer? Better yet…who gave birth this summer? Memories, smells and colors remind me of summer…and all of this in a single baby quilt. Am I exaggerating? Maybe, but for me it feels this way. Only half square triangles and a curved quilting to give some contrast to the monotonous diagonal lines.

This baby quilt is for SALE in my Shop.

You can find it here:

Summer of Kate Spain Quilts from Stella Bella Quilts

The bright, clear, cheerful colors of Kate Spain's fabric lines are calling to me this summer.  I finished up my second Kate Spain quilt top of the summer; the line is Sunnyside. The pattern is from Moda Bake Shop and is called "Basic Math Quilt."  The quilt uses one layer cake and is fun and easy to make.

I had the blocks made for awhile and then "rediscovered" them cleaning up a pile in my sewing room.
This will be another great lap quilt for the couch for the summer to go along with my Daydreams quilt (see next ...
