What Are Quilters Blogging About Today?

Each time I get in a new fabric line, I like to consolidate and clean out some of the earlier stuff because I only have so much storage room in my studio. So now that Dazzle Dots is here, it’s time to clear out the remaining Geo Pop & Gridwork Yardage.

Can you guess that teaching live, in person workshops is my favorite thing to do? For this week’s video, I’m excited to share my 2024 travel agenda with you! I’ll be heading to some bigger quilt shows like QuiltCon, Paducah, and Pacific International Quilt Festival. Plus I will be headlining a few regional events like a really fun Stitchin’ Heaven retreat along with several shops and guilds around the country. I can’t wait!

I’m really excited about quilting this year. It’s the first year in awhile that I actually sat down and made some goals for what I want to accomplish in quilting *and* in my business. In my personal quilting I want to push the boundaries more when it comes to modern quilting, and be okay with creating original quilts that don’t need to be patternable. Well this fall/winter has been a busy time to say the least. I went to market and festival in October, went on vacation in November, and then promptly got sick in December. But the good thing is that I don’t teach in December so I had plenty of time to recover, LOL! (Just a bad cold, nothing serious!) A day spent at the Houston quilt show is always a treat.

I went on opening day and enjoyed wandering the vendor aisles and gushing over all the beautiful quilts, especially those of the applique variety.

One thing I noticed this year was a much-reduced quantity of fabric for sale, compared to shows in previous years when it was common for vendor booths to burst at the seams with fabric. I would chalk this up to a marketplace realignment with reality. High inflation is stressing budgets, along with the fact that most quilters have healthy stashes and are shopping them ...

I’m thrilled to be returning to Houston, Texas later this month for International Quilt Market and Festival. Market is the trade show that takes place a week before Festival, which is the consumer show. At market I’ll be sharing my latest and greatest fabrics and patterns with quilt shops. At Festival, I’ll be lecturing and teaching about my favorite subject – domestic machine quilting!
