Red Sampler - Blocks done! from Applique 'n Patch Quilting

Well, I'm not going to wait any longer.  All my blocks that I want to do are now done.  Any more blocks can go on the backing.  There are a few misfits because of fabric chosen and they will be perfect there.  Sewing of the rows has commenced and I will be happy to finally have this project as a top and off my design wall.

My "I may have started a new project" is working and this is my cottage project for now.  The bottom row has all the circles appliqued on.
The summer heat has finally arrived ...

Oh dear, borders! from Applique 'n Patch Quilting

I seem to always get stuck on borders.  Nothing seems to satisfy me these days.

Take this top for example.  The centre is all together.  I love it!

Then, the 'what if' game started.  What if those stars get extended into the borders?  Yes, that works for me.   Now, what to do with the rest of the border fabric?  There is not much fabric left of the blue strips, so that can't be used.  There is lots of the neutral fabric that was used in making the stars and lots of navy blue.  It's ok ..... but ..... all that ...

What's New? from Applique 'n Patch Quilting

Well, first thing, I've thrown my back out twice in the last two weeks.  You would think by now that I would've learned how to bend properly?  Nope ..... it seems to take back pain for me to think twice.  Lucky for me that since I have been doing back exercises, my down times are short and after a few days, my back is almost normal again.

I did start a new project, then had to pause because it hurt too much to sit at my sewing machine, but now that pause has ceased and I can finally sew ...

Blogger Award from Applique 'n Patch Quilting

There is another "Best Blogger Award" going around again.  Way back in 2007 when I started my blog, I and a ton of other bloggers were tagged with this special award.  It was an honour to be awarded and I was tickled pink because I had just starting my blog that year.  In fact, it was so popular that many blogs were double/triple nominated. Then, people starting checking into this award.  Someone made a lot of money because every time we clicked onto the link to add the award icon onto our blog, it was money, money, money to ...

This and That from Applique 'n Patch Quilting

A little bit of this and a little bit of that ...... that is what is keeping me busy in my studio and home.

My sister and I sorted through the remaining boxes of my late Aunt's and late cousin's stuff.  Some to keep, some to share amongst family, some to sell but mostly to donate.  It has been a long haul but we are getting through their belongings.  There was no time to sort through their apartment when the time came to close it back in late October.  Covid was a hot spot in their senior residence.  Two ...

Borders? What Borders? from Applique 'n Patch Quilting

I'm at that point with my "Corona Tulips" that it was time to pull out fabrics for borders!   These are the fabrics chosen to finish off my thoughts for a cheery spring quilt.

Masks, masks and more masks!  My niece sent me this photo of all her masks drying.  Two kids times 3-4 masks each child per school day = lots of masks.  She was having a hard time keeping track of masks for sending off and masks for washing/drying.  The additional masks that were made last week are helping the task.

Yesterday, an UFO was pulled out and ...

Making progress? from Applique 'n Patch Quilting

Well, I do think I am making progress with my tulips!  Four rows done and all sewn together.  My plan is to do one row of circles and one row of tulips per week.  Only 9 rows total to go.  At this rate, this top might be finished by mid-March.

What else got accomplished?  These three chairs!  If anyone complains to me about the cost of having someone do upholstery, I will tell them that every penny is well earned.  These chairs were hard for us to do.  My hubby and I learned many things along the way and we ...

Making circles around the tulips! from Applique 'n Patch Quilting

A surge of energy came over me and those tulips kept being made until ..... finally ..... all the tulips and circles were prepped.  This is it!  Mind you, everything you see is just pinned in place.  Now comes the task of appliqueing.   I'm happy.  I love this top!

One block of circles done ..... many more to go.

All those pieces have been taken down, marked properly and placed into baggies ready for me to work on at night while watching t.v.  My design wall is needed to work on an UFO.  That was my promise.  When I mentioned this ...

Last finish for 2020 from Applique 'n Patch Quilting

Happy New Year ..... we all hope!  It will be interesting to see how the next few months play out.

I got this quilt finished just under the wire.  What a good feeling to get something finally done!

"Four Seasons" is the name of this quilt.  It looks more like a fall quilt, but there are spring greens and summer greens in the quilt along with yellows of our flowers that grow in our front and back garden.  Look closely and you can even see some snowflakes!

Quilt details:

Started:  April 2014

Finished:  December 30, 2020

Block name:  9-patch block  (7-1 ...

Going in different directions! from Applique 'n Patch Quilting

More like spinning my wheels in different directions!

All the wheels have now been appliqued onto the background strips.  Yeah.  Progress.  Something accomplished!  The photo looks washed out from the bright sunshine spilling into my studio.   It is cold outside (-17C or 1.4F).  It is good that we have snow on the ground, otherwise there would be water pipes bursting.  Still those wheels are something to celebrate.  Now, I can concentrate on assembling all the sections together now.

What else is keeping my hubby and I busy?  Chairs.  These chairs were purchased ages ago from a restaurant that was ...

New project from Applique 'n Patch Quilting

Lately, my quilting mojo has left the building and it has been sorely missed.  I've been busy looking after my sister and my husband.  They are more important right now and they need my attention.

Still, a sew-along caught my eye a few weeks back.  It would be so easy to do.  The pattern was printed out and placed in a basket for later to do and I promptly forgot all about it.   After seeing another quilter working on this sew-along, it sparked something in me and I found the pattern in my studio and I actually started a ...

Background from Applique 'n Patch Quilting

Not for blocks or quilts .... for video conference calls.

While watching T.V. news networks, I've been looking at the backgrounds that commentators use during their presentations.  Some show very interesting artwork, lots shows bookcases, one person showed a gorgeous stone carved fireplace somewhere in France but none have shown any quilts.

My sister was telling me the other night that she uses this quilt as her background during her calls and she gets interesting comments and they wonder if she made the quilt.  No, she says her extremely (I put that word in her mouth) creative sister made ...

Flower sewing from Applique 'n Patch Quilting

This will be the layout of my flowers ..... love, love, love them!  For one of the borders, I'm thinking of doing crazy patches for something different.

For a bit of tease, these are my latest quilts back from the LAer.  No binding, no sleeves, no labels yet but I just had to pin them up so that I can drool over them!  LOL
Another top is in the process of getting ready to go to be quilted.  Right now, I'm down to seven tops still in the queue and slowly but surely they are getting attended to.

With ...

Busy times from Applique 'n Patch Quilting

A bit of quilting is getting done, but not as much since the warmer weather has arrived.  Gardening has taken over as well as mask making again for family.  This virus is not going away and we will need more masks to wash and wear.

My hexie project is making good progress when I sit down to watch some t.v.  Soon, I will be able to start working on the flower sections.

The left side and middle have many rows to assemble in centre of each panel (see the white zig zag lines).   Above and below those lines, the ...

Snow, snow go away! from Applique 'n Patch Quilting

This is what we woke up to this morning ..... we are so tired of snow!  Still, snow or rain is welcome because we didn't have a whole lot of snow over the winter and the prediction for forest fires this summer is real.  Still ......

In case any of you are wondering what the flags are for, they are there to indicate that bulbs were planted in the fall and we should start to see some spring flowers coming up .... hopefully!  LOL  The flags will stay there until we finish doing whatever planting has been done and then that should ...

A bit of ice shove! from Applique 'n Patch Quilting

I've been busy making hexies.  Lots and lots of hexies.  More bags of scrap fabric was found.  OMG .... I'm drowning in scraps.  Aagh!  Not to worry, I will work on making more quilts out of those scraps.  LOL  I do have lots of EPP patterns to choose from.

This is where I'm at with this project so far.

On the virus front .... another 20 masks were made.  Some for local use, some for in another city.  No photo was taken as they are already gone.  I'll be making more and more and more masks.  Money has ...

Been busy! from Applique 'n Patch Quilting

It seems that everyone that can sew are making masks these days.  I've jumped in and made 36 for our local hospital to wear over their N95 masks to keep them from getting soiled.  The community made enough that they won't have to worry about masks for a wee while.  These ones have ties.

Next up, masks for family members.

After that, masks for a local nursing home and they requested elastics.

I will do whatever I can to help out.  We have to, no question about it!

It is so sad to watch the news and see ...
