Here Comes Christmas from ... Cat Patches

2020 has seemed exceedingly long, while also impossibly short. Here we are just a little over a month from the end of the year, and it seems as if the year has gone by without really being lived. Certainly a lot have died. One can only hope this will all end before we find ourselves at this date next year. I was thinking about all we have to be thankful for in 2020. When I consider where we were last January, I feel a little as if we were in a blissful state of naivete.

Staying Home from ... Cat Patches

When the shopping list for the week was made up over the weekend, we'd planned to do the grocery shopping on Tuesday. Then, in a moment of courage and heroism, we decided to do all of our errands on Monday. Staying home yesterday made it all worthwhile.

We're home for quite a while, although Mike often drives into town for this or that thing. Yesterday was for D-cell batteries. I'm mean...who even uses D-cells any more? I've noticed gopher activity in the peony bed again. If the gophers eat my peony tubers, I'm going ...

No-Show Sewing from ... Cat Patches

It rained most of the day yesterday, and I stayed in and sewed. For a day of sewing, there isn't anything to show you except peeks of this and that. Even the kitties were missing in action.

My first priority was to quilt and bind the "Memories" challenge piece. There was already a wound bobbin of this 60-weight thread, and so I used it.

On top, I used this 50-weight variegated blue from Aurifil. This was another of the gift threads from my friend Ila. Pretty blues, and just right for my quilt.

This small quilt could have easily ...

Lots of Stitching from ... Cat Patches

You might think I did a lot of stitching yesterday, and I did. But I have my own set of stitches right now...about half a dozen on my nose. Yes, I've cheated death once again. I look like hell, but I'm feeling pretty good. Thank you to all who wrote to wish me well on this latest bit of nosiness. Thankfully, it took just two swipes to remove the little basal cell from my nose. To see my swollen schnozz and my blackened left eye, you might think it was more. I'm just glad I don ...

D-Day from ... Cat Patches

It's the day I've been dreading. Today is the Mohs procedure on my poor nose. It's the fourth one I've had on my nose. My doctor is skillful. He's done the other three as well, with no scarring, and so I'm going into this dreading it, but not fearful. It's good having a doctor I trust. The worst part is the numbing medication, and then the recovery when the numbing medication wears off. I'm confident I'll survive it, but I'm not happy about it. My appointment isn't until this ...

Destressing from ... Cat Patches

We had a pretty sunrise this morning.

Looking out the south-facing window, it looked like this:

It's nice to see blue sky and sunshine, chilly though it is. We're expecting the rain to set in tomorrow and not let up for quite a while.

The events of the past several weeks have really done a number on my energy level. I'm not sure what it is, but my days have been less enthusiastically busy than usual. Possibly, I've had a few too many doctor's appointments. I'm going to remember this for the future, and ...

Oh, Happy Day! from Cat Patches

When my furry alarm clock went off this morning, I jumped out of bed, lighter on my feet than I've been in about four years. Man, it's good to be alive, isn't it? The future looks bright!

We had a bit of a snafu here at the Three Cats Ranch yesterday morning, totally unrelated to cats. (Surprising, I know.)

Since retiring, Mike has been going with me to the grocery store. Truth be told, I think he's trying to keep me out of jail for murdering someone. After all, who would cook if I ended up ...

A Lazy Afternoon from Cat Patches

Sometimes we just need to take a day off. Wouldn't you agree? The past week has been edge-of-the-seat stressful. Some of the items on my calendar were wiped away by other forces, but what remained was stressful enough. I've kind of stopped checking my iDevices obsessively. I'm confident our election is settled at this point, and so we're just waiting for the "official" announcement. As for the personal stuff, it's mostly done, with the exception of the Mohs procedure on my poor nose. I can worry about that on Tuesday morning.

As for yesterday, I ...

Peas on Earth from ... Cat Patches

It would be nice if I could say there is peas on earth because the election has been decided, but no. For those of you reading this post a day late, maybe it will be by then. For now, it's just a little story about building a mug rug. But first, I must tell you the momentous news that I have turned the corner on Mulligan Stew. I can say in all sincerity that I am on the home stretch with this quilt. It holds the world record for the longest WIP in my sewing room.

I'll pick ...

Pins and Needles from ... Cat Patches

Holy smokes! What a day yesterday! I can't really tell you anything in particular happened. It's what didn't happen that has me on pins and needles. You know...the "E" word. I could hardly tear myself away from the vote tally, and watched obsessively most of the day. Mike and I went out to run some errands around mid-day and that helped to channel some of that nervous energy. When we got home, I walked around to the back side of the house to snap this picture of our Japanese maple trees. Aren't these incredible? No ...
