What Are Quilters Blogging About Today?

Life on the American frontier was hard. There were prairies to tame, trees to fell, and fences to build. There was butter to churn, laundry to scrub, and water to fetch.

A Single Irish Chain block is pieced like a Chimneys and Cornerstones, a variation of the Log Cabin block, so it seemed logical to me to colour the Irish Chain blocks like a Cornerstones block … and mix in the other Irish Chain blocks.

I have just realized that I have only used Single and Triple Irish Chain blocks … need to find more time to play with these!

I also seem to have misplaced Irish Log Cabin designs in straight settings … setting out on a search party to find that project file.

Log Cabin blocks and traditional quilts go together like peanut butter and chocolate. Seriously good! We pieced a pretty big Log Cabin quilt together for the walking foot quilt along. Now let’s make it mini!

If you may recall, I made a "Twig Cabin" quilt for my first son back in 2016-2017. I realize that I never posted a finished picture of it, so this is going to be a post combining both quilts.

Twig's quilt was a 'streaks of lightning' layout of log cabin blocks. I backed it with an adorable print I had bought in Korea.

Directions From a Local is a true blue finish! The hand quilting went very quickly and then it was just a matter of getting the binding properly attached. A quick look through the stash totes, and no worries, plenty of fabric to choose from for binding possibilities.

Time for a short break. this weeks selection of Log Cabin designs are set on point, and use a variety of the Log Cabin variations. I am wondering if I could use the outer part of the first one as a border around some applique blocks.

It's amazing how quickly something can happen once we're in the right frame of mind. This quilt project has been on the back burner for practically forever. Then comes January and I'm chomping at the bit to clear off the 'in-progress' list. Gotta free up space to start new projects!

I've made progress on assembling garden party. I have the second corner ready. I have everything else ready, it's time to do the long rows assembly, and see it together. First corner here.

My absolute favourite thing about having the studio in Sydney, was that when I was done for the day, or more likely was really in need of dinner, I could shut the door on the mess and walk away.

Right now, it feels like my entire apartment has become my studio and yesterday, to amuse myself, I decided to take a picture of all the little quilts-to-be piles dotted around the place.

Someone used the word 'Autumnal' the other day and I thought it was a beautiful word. Fall is my absolute favorite season in a place where we definitely have four full seasons! Anyway, long story short, the word has attached itself to the brand new start around here. Meet 'Autumnal Tulips', pictured below!
