Simple Log Cabin Quilt from The Cutting Table Quilt Blog - A Blog for Quilters by Quilters

The Simple Log Cabin Quilt from Missouri Star Quilt Co. Watch the free quilt tutorial today.

Life on the American frontier was hard. There were prairies to tame, trees to fell, and fences to build. There was butter to churn, laundry to scrub, and water to fetch.

Despite such labor-filled days, those resourceful pioneer women found ways to whip up easy patterns like the Log Cabin block. These simple, pretty quilts were used not only as bed coverings, but as windows, room dividers, and doors, too!

Irish log Cabin OP 2626, 27, 28 from Virtual Quilter

A Single Irish Chain block is pieced like a Chimneys and Cornerstones, a variation of the Log Cabin block, so it seemed logical to me to colour the Irish Chain blocks like a Cornerstones block … and mix in the other Irish Chain blocks.

Interesting effect with some of the blocks washed out!

I have just realized that I have only used Single and Triple Irish Chain blocks … need to find more time to play with these!

I also seem to have misplaced Irish Log Cabin designs in straight settings … setting out on a search party to find that project file.

Courthouse Steps from Ann Quilts

Lately, I have been reaping the benefit of getting to the age of downsizing.  And the benefit has been adopting quilts from many directions.

Not that I really have room or reason to have them myself either, except for being able to write about them here and share them when I teach.  That's good enough, I figure.  But really, the main reason I say yes and bring them in is that I love them and want to give them a home.

I am reminded of my brother- and sister-in-law who kept the garage door open a crack and a ...

Final Finish of 2019: A Brother's Coordinated Quilt from The Quilting Hermit

If you may recall, I made a "Twig Cabin" quilt for my first son back in 2016-2017. I realize that I never posted a finished picture of it, so this is going to be a post combining both quilts.

Twig's quilt was a 'streaks of lightning' layout of log cabin blocks. I backed it with an adorable print I had bought in Korea.

Blues, greens, oranges, and browns
These foxes are just adorable
When I had a second little boy ("Sprout"), I knew I wanted to do another log cabin block quilt in the same colors, but wanted it ...

Moving Things Along from Quilty Folk

Directions From a Local is a true blue finish! The hand quilting went very quickly and then it was just a matter of getting the binding properly attached. A quick look through the stash totes, and no worries, plenty of fabric to choose from for binding possibilities.

Directions From a Local is finished!
Not surprisingly, I ended up sewing scrappy pieces of odd blue fabric together for the binding as that color seemed to have the very best effect. Some of the fabrics had been in the totes for a very long time and I had begun to question why ...

Logs on Point + 91, 92, 93, 94, 95 from Virtual Quilter

Time for a short break. this weeks selection of Log Cabin designs are set on point, and use a variety of the Log Cabin variations. I am wondering if I could use the outer part of the first one as a border around some applique blocks.

Love the not very pointy star in the one above!

And the one above is very interesting.

Another very interesting design.

I just noticed that there are five different borders created with Log Cabin block variations in these five designs.

I have had my five minute break and spent it opening a new project ...

Finish It Up January from Quilty Folk

It's amazing how quickly something can happen once we're in the right frame of mind. This quilt project has been on the back burner for practically forever. Then comes January and I'm chomping at the bit to clear off the 'in-progress' list. Gotta free up space to start new projects!

Shimmer is a finished quilt top!
All the blocks were done, but I was dragging my feet big time. All those strippy pieces cut, sewn and then cut again? Yep. Though I pinned at every seam, just the weight of the rows kept pulling seams apart until ...

garden party corner from Making A Lather

I've made progress on assembling garden party. I have the second corner ready. I have everything else ready, it's time to do the long rows assembly, and see it together. First corner here.

I have been distracted by bonnie hunter's new free pattern wonky courthouse square. They are very fun to make. I am treadling the blocks every chance I get.

The butterfly bush is still holding onto it's fall color despite the snow.

Farmhouse Quilt Finished from Fret Not Yourself

"You can't be both awesome and negative.
Choose one."

Evidence indicates I will never have a stash of finished baby quilts. They leave as soon as the the final strings are buried. In the meanwhile, time is passing and the farmhouse quilt will be gifted next month. You may have noticed I'm working to the deadline... as usual.

What happens when your whole apartment becomes your sewing room from Stitch and Yarn

My absolute favourite thing about having the studio in Sydney, was that when I was done for the day, or more likely was really in need of dinner, I could shut the door on the mess and walk away.

Right now, it feels like my entire apartment has become my studio and yesterday, to amuse myself, I decided to take a picture of all the little quilts-to-be piles dotted around the place.
This quilt below for instance, is one I started in Maria Shell's class, but I'm adapting to make a version of my Strip Weave quilt...

Sitting ...

A New Fall Project and The Completed Tidbits Quilt from Quilty Folk

Someone used the word 'Autumnal' the other day and I thought it was a beautiful word. Fall is my absolute favorite season in a place where we definitely have four full seasons! Anyway, long story short, the word has attached itself to the brand new start around here. Meet 'Autumnal Tulips', pictured below!

The start of a new project
This project was inspired by a lot of things, though no doubt primarily by this post. It somehow gave rise to feeling of longing to make yet another tulip quilt, because really, can you ever have too many of them? The ...

{ Home Sweet Hometown Christmas~ Log Cabin Quilt } from {The Sweetest Dreams}

It's been sometime since I've updated my blog but that doesn't mean I've been idle.
There's been a lot of sewing going on from quilts to tote bags to sewing machine accessories.

I'm really happy to be sharing one of my favorite quilts to date
{Home Sweet Hometown Christmas}

This quilt is made entirely of Sweetwater holiday fabrics that I've been hoarding saving for a few years. The collections included are Cookie Exchange, Holly's Tree Farm & Hometown Christmas.

All of their fabrics work so well together.

The backing is from Hometown Christmas ...
