Logs in a Misty Garden 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 from Virtual Quilter

In a new project file I coloured some Log Cabin blocks in rather subdued colours, then added some blocks from one of my Floral Cross collection of applique blocks.

I have fallen in love with this idea, and started several projects in different colourways, but I think this is going to be the favourite one.

My two favourite pastimes are combined in these designs … sewing, particularly quilts, and gardening.

No fabric is damaged and my hands don’t get dirty mixing the two hobbies in this way, and most importantly the dirty hands don’t come in contact with the ...

Less Logs in the Cabin 96, 97, 98, 99, 100 from Virtual Quilter

Interesting centre, and a very unusual border!

Another interesting centre.

Looks like a road map for a city centre.

Slight change to get the designs above ….

… and another change.

That is all for this week’s quilter’s mid week break, and there will be another chance to stop briefly to look at more Log Cabin quilt designs next week.

Cornerstones in Green and Gold 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 from Virtual Quilter

Interesting.

I like the second design!

Very different. I like where the green blocks near the corners are placed, offset from the position of the framed crosses.

An alternative title for the design above could be Square Dance.

The last one has a similar layout of blocks as the first design, but with slightly different blocks … very interesting changes.

I like the position of the mostly green design in the gallery placements!

That is all for this week, but there will be more Log Cabin designs mid week, next week.

Logs on the Pile 86, 87, 88, 89, 90 from Virtual Quilter

Very interesting!

I like the middle part, but I think would lighten the outer blocks.

Interesting!

It is now a toss up between the one above, and the first one, which one I like the most.

Perhaps the last one is my choice for the day.

That is all the Log Cabin designs for this week … more mid week, next week.

Cornerstone Logs + Juicy Citrus 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 from Virtual Quilter

The mandarin tree has been stripped last week, the last of the oranges were falling off yesterday, so a couple of friends left with bags full to clear that, and there are lemons galore on the tree, and a large box full picked and waiting for some homes.

Luckily these designs will keep during the summer.

Love the design above!

I also love the next one!

The one above is interesting, but not on my list of favourite designs.

I think one job on my list for today is to wrap some of those lemons in the box with paper ...

Cornerstone Logs A 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 from Virtual Quilter

The last time I opened Cornerstones project file there were over 500 quilt designs, all in rather boring colours, so I set about dividing the file into some smaller files, deleted about 100 designs I thought were repeats, and I now have several files using different designs and different fabric choices in each one. I like both of the first two designs … no favourite there.

I would have liked a background fabrics with less black lines than the ones I have used, but got sick of looking through fabric collections, so these designs have got a darker background than I ...

Log Cabin Mix 36, 37, 38, 39, 40 from Virtual Quilter

Exciting. Certainly more exciting than the average Log Cabin quilts I have seen anywhere.

A bit more mundane.

Another exciting design.

Interesting design above.

Another very interesting design to complete this weeks collection of Log Cabin quilt designs.

More Log Cabin designs mid week, next week.

Now I have to make sure I get this posted in the middle of the week, and I have checked the day and date three times so far to make sure I get it right.

Logs or Leaves 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and Sampler, plus 6, 7, 8, 9 and 10! from Virtual Quilter

Perhaps that should be logs, twigs, sticks or leaves! The curves are created using straight lines with a slight change of angle for with each change of colour. At this point I haven’t tried to work out the best way to piece these blocks, but I suspect most would be happiest with paper piecing by machine, though I think I would prefer hand piecing. At this point in time there are two variations of the basic block, each in two variations of colour use in the project file, and an ever growing collection of designs.

First some basic designs ...

Logs OP + 31, 32, 33, 34, 35 from Virtual Quilter

Time to retreat with a coffee … and I think the first design is a good one.

In this project file I create a design, then make a series of minor changes until I get sick of it, and design something new. I like the change from the first to the second one.

Time for a change! Interesting.

So is the next one.

Needing a change again, which will appear some time in a future mid week retreat.

More Log Cabin designs mid week, next week.

PS Hopefully I will get them posted on time next week!

Curved Cornerstones + 111.112, 113, 114, 115 from Virtual Quilter

Wow! A bit of a tangle.

Same blocks with a twist.

I like the one above.

Like the one above more than the one above it!

The last one is my favourite for the day, and this weeks Mid Week Log Cabin Retreat.

That is all for this weeks Mid Week quilter’s Log Cabin Retreat … more next week.

TNT Logs + 106, 107, 108, 109, 110 from Virtual Quilter

This week’s selection of designs includes three very similar designs with minor changes, and two also with minor changes.

The dark circle in the centre has become a light space.

The dark centre is back, but the inner corners have changed.

The one above is interesting.

Four blocks have changed colour in the last.

That is all for this week, and last, but more Log Cabin designs mid week, next week, if I remember what day it is. Easy to tell we are retirees, where every day is Sunday!

Cabin Fever 131, 132, 133, 134, 135 from Virtual Quilter

I like the first design for this week’s mini retreat.

Second is very interesting. The blocks in the centre could be changed many ways inside the dark frame.

I am not impressed by the third design … too busy.

Much more interesting.

Love the last for this week.

More Log Cabin quilt designs mid week next week.

If ever I run out of interesting things to do it would be interesting to go through this project file using a mixture of colours, particularly in the centre area of the designs. It would need to be a long break from the ...

Logs at Lochiel 46, 47, 48, 49, 50 from Virtual Quilter

I have not seen many pink Log Cabin quilts. Most seem to be much stronger colours, but I wanted to try designing some with pretty fabrics when I started this project file.

The name followed naturally as there is a tiny town in Australia next to a salt lake which is often without water, but when it does have water the lake is pink. The town is Lochiel, and the name led to some young farmers making a monster from old tyres. Unfortunately, the monster lost it’s head due to vandals, and now there is a more permanent metal ...

Logs on Point + 111, 112, 113, 114, 115 from Virtual Quilter

Playing with assorted variations of the Log Cabin block can lead to many, many quilt designs.

Some of them are weird, but interesting!

Some of them just interesting like the one above, which I like a lot..

Another interesting design.

I wonder if I have repeated any designs in this project file. I know i have often added alterations to designs as I add some to the blog, and there are too many to check them off every time I make some slight alteration to see if I like it or not

More Log Cabin quilt designs mid week, next ...

Interesting.

Wow!

I like the one above, especially the curves in the outer edge!

Love the curves again.

Interesting.

Hard to pick a favourite, but the middle and right of the top row are high on the list!

Framed by Logs OP 16, 17, 18, 19, 20 from Virtual Quilter

Very interesting.

This project file was started simply to see how the edges of a mixed bag of Log Cabin blocks could be bordered. Curved bits, pointy bits can be mixed with straight lines of zigzags! One day I should add designs to the centre areas of all these designs.

The extra curves in the second design is telling me that a large area of applique could work well in the centre as well.

I guess any pieced blocks could be used to fill the blank space to. or perhaps a mixture of pieced and applique blocks.

Of course, just ...

Logs at Lochiel 36, 37, 38, 39, 40 from Virtual Quilter

I have rarely seen a Log Cabin Quilt in pretty pink, but this project file is proof that it works.

Of course, the designs would work in other colours, but sometimes I like to break the mold.

The design above is very interesting … I like it!

Another very interesting design!

The last one is neat and tidy …

… but my favourite is the very interesting design on the left of the bottom row. More Log Cabin deigns mid week, next week to browse through during a short retreat from the world around us.

Cabin Fever 121, 122, 123, 124, 125 from Virtual Quilter

Very interesting!

I have turned eight blocks around, and not anywhere near as interesting.

Not too sure that I like the design above, but it might appeal to some people.

Like the one above … not too fussy, almost simple, but very appealing.

Five interesting Log Cabin designs this week!

I think my favourite is the first one, but love that they are all not quite the average layout for a Log Cabin quilt.

That is all for this week’s Log Cabin retreat … more designs next week, mid week.

Cabin Fever Isolation Area 41, 42, 43, 44, 45 from Virtual Quilter

Interesting.

Very interesting.

It is going to be hard for me to pick a favourite today … maybe the one above.

Another interesting one!

How about seeing them all together.

I think I will settle for the first one as my favourite for the day, but might have to have several mini retreats during the day to confirm that decision. I might also play with the designs to see what happens when I turn the blocks inside out. I might still be playing until next weeks mid week retreat!

Logs on Point + 91, 92, 93, 94, 95 from Virtual Quilter

Time for a short break. this weeks selection of Log Cabin designs are set on point, and use a variety of the Log Cabin variations. I am wondering if I could use the outer part of the first one as a border around some applique blocks.

Love the not very pointy star in the one above!

And the one above is very interesting.

Another very interesting design.

I just noticed that there are five different borders created with Log Cabin block variations in these five designs.

I have had my five minute break and spent it opening a new project ...
