Quilters Help Quilters from Inside Quilters Newsletter

By Karey Bresenhan, founder, International Quilt Festival

11 04 2013 Houston 037 298x300 Quilters Help Quilters

Deluge by Libby Lehman, 2007

To see one of Libby Lehman’s quilts is to enjoy the work of a true artist who has chosen to work with fabric, needle and thread as her medium. But to see an entire exhibit of her work, arranged chronologically, is to see how that art developed and to stand in amazement at the incredible scope of one artist’s talent.

Visitors to Houston’s International Quilt Festival in November were privileged to see this extraordinary exhibit and to participate in a special project: “Quilters Help Quilters ...

The exhibit of quilts made by Libby Lehman is spectacular and very special.

I was so pleased that Libby’s son Les and sister Ellen let me pose with them in front of one of Libby’s quilts.

More from Quilt Market 2013: the booths and displays from Inside Quilters Newsletter

Yesterday I blogged about some of the Schoolhouse sessions I attended on Friday at International Quilt Market in Houston. Today I want to share some of the eye candy seen on the show floor and in the quilt displays once Market officially opened for business on Saturday morning. (Click on any image to enlarge.)

What a difference a year makes! from Quilt Notes

As I write this, Quilt Market (the industry’s semi-annual trade show) has just completed and International Quilt Market is ready to start.

This marks my one-year anniversary of attending Quilt Market. My readers may recall that my trip was cut short by Hurricane Sandy. I had a harrowing trip home, which included renting a car and driving from the Baltimore airport to Long Island, all the time trying to stay ahead of the storm. Sadly, some residents of Long Island have not yet recovered from this storm, although everyone I know personally is now fine.

One of the highlights ...

My Circle Fetish from Jackie's Art Quilts

As you may know I have a thing for circles.   Kind of like an addiction, if I see circles, I want them.

Take a look at the quilt I am working on.  I did the flowers free motion and then the majority of the background was done in free motion circles using all different colours.

Notice all the circles.

While I was taking this photo, I thought it might be fun to show you just how many circles I have collected.
These are some fun serviettes I can't bring myself to use.

My favourite coffee cup.

My back up ...

Ricky Tims' Super Quilt Seminar Experience from Charmed Creations

I'm sad it's over.  It was an amazing experience.

Thursday morning we hopped on the bus and left Ottawa at 6:30 am from the doors of The Running Stitch and headed south to Rochester, NY.

The bus driver made excellent time.. even with a couple of stops and our obligatory halt/check at customs, we made it there in 5 hours.

The information we absorbed over the two and a half days (Thursday afternoon, Friday and Saturday) was mind boggling.  Thankfully we were provided with a book detailing all the seminar information, instructions and tips.

According to ...
