Week What?? from mequilter

I really don't know what week it is. I took a ton of weeks off.
I did some scrapbooking and I was also sick and I didn't want to work on it sick. Plus getting the girls ready for online school and then in person for 2 days a week.
And celebrating two birthdays, they are now 17 and 15.

So here are the latest and great pictures.

Between July 26 and Sept 21, I finished the second snowman and started filling in the snowbank. I also made the little bird.

This is close up of the bird ...

Stocking 2 Weeks 6 & 7 from mequilter

I missed posting last week so today you will a twofer!
On week 6 I finished all the left snowbank and stitched the snowmen's hats and part of one snowman!

For whatever reason, I was having a hard time stitching the white on this fabric. I did a lot of ripping and restitching.
Probably just old eyes.

Week 7 was also a slow week. Been tired and stressed and we are all tired of being home together so much.
So I haven't felt like stitching.
I finished the body of the first snowman.
He still needs arms and ...

Stocking #2 Week #5 from mequilter

The top of the stocking is done!!  Except to add the year and the individual snowflakes. The flakes have to wait until the rest is done so they don't come undone.

The very top of the stocking. I didn't want to take it off the frame, so you can't see it all. On each side of her name,
I will put 20 so it will read to mean made in 2020.

All rolled up and I started working on the snowbank
which starts the slope into the toe part of the stocking.
I still have lots of ...

Stocking #2 Week #4 from mequilter

Another productive week on this stocking!

This is the picture I took before rolling up
the stocking up higher on the frame!

Here is this week's progress. The letters seem to go fast more me.
I did have to take the S out on Christmas because it was one stitch too high. So the row above of letters looked off. Easy fix. And surprising look it looks much better. Funny how the eye can see it.

Happy Stitching!!

Stocking #2 Week #3 from mequilter

Friday, June 26th was the end of the three-week mark of working on the second stocking! Of course, at the end of the evening, I noticed another mistake. So, I ended up doing more riping!
Somehow I didn't get a picture on Friday, I do on Thursday and then on Sunday but I didn't work on it on Saturday.

Here it is on Thursday evening. I left this stocking for second because it is 30 count to the inch and the other was 28 count. I am glad I did this one second, the fabric is a little ...

Stocking #2 Week 2 from mequilter

After I ripped out the house that was in the wrong place it took me two evenings of working on it to have it in the right place.

It looks so much better down where it is supposed to be.

I hate mistakes, I turned it over to bury my thread when I found this thread crossing over. I was lucky and able to pull it over and stitch it to the stitches in the curve and hide it.

This is how much I was able to finish this week.

Here are the two stockings by each other.
Yes, I ...

Stocking #2 Week 1 from mequilter

I had decided to take some time off between stockings and I had planned to start the second one on June 1st.
I didn't start it until Friday, June 5.

Here it is at the very start. Leti had picked different colors than what we did on Nick's and I was making sure this is what she still wanted what we planned on. Yes, she was happy with her choices.

I had this much done by Sunday.

By Thursday I had gone this far, I was so happy with my progress. Until I noticed that the fourth window ...

Stocking #1 Week ??? from mequilter

I need to go to my calendar to determine how many weeks I have been working on this stocking. I didn't work on it at all last week.
Those little individual snowflakes were a pain. I almost didn't do them, I wasn't sure it would add anything to the design,
but I am glad I did.

On April 19th I started making the Confetti Stitch for the individual snowflakes. This is the website where I learned how to do the Confetti Stich. Here are the pictures from that night.

The very top of the stocking.

Close up ...

Stocking #1 Week #11 from mequilter

It has been 11 weeks since I started the first Christmas stock for my great-niece and her husband. I haven't worked on it for 2 weeks. And it has been 3 weeks since my last post.

I did make progress and I also have done a few other things like dealing with teenagers who have been out of school for 4 weeks,
1 week of spring break, and 3 weeks in quarantine.  New online classes for them. Interesting times. Plus I have been making masks for family and friends,

So, the last time I posted the stocking looked almost ...

Stocking #1 Week 7 from mequilter

I made a lot of progress this week. I can almost see the light at the end of the tunnel. Yes, that is my needle poking up in that top row of stitches, right where I left off.

In case you can't read the script, it says;
I'll be home for
Christmas
If only in my
Dreams  a bird and MB
my initials.

I would still like to find a good spot to put the year. This designer didn't leave space for the year. To me, I like looking at the year a stocking was made. It ...

Stocking 1 Week 5 & 6 from mequilter

Time sure flies by fast when you are having fun and are busy. Saturday the 29th I had my scrapbooking group here at my home. So I didn' get to post last weekend.

The toe of the stocking is almost finished. I still need to put branches on the little tree on the toe part and add embellishments. I am saving the embellishments for the very end.

Here is a picture of what is finished now.

Here is a close-up.

I also did the snow around the house and big trees but I only went one direction. I am ready ...

Stocking #1 Week 4 from mequilter

It did see to take forever to get stitching done this week. It was a busy week and the great-niece I am making this for was married last Saturday. So lots of excitement.

I finished all the snowflakes under the vine type line, the dog and I am still working on the snowman. I did get new glasses this week and it seems I can see better. I am going to check out a new magnifying glasses. Mine has lots of scratches on it and it only has one magnification, I might want two.

I didn't realize it until ...

Stocking Number 1 Week 3 from mequilter

Well, I didn't get a lot done this week but I did get some done which is better than none!

I finished one of the critters on the bottom and I spent way too many hours trying to make the snowflake between the wiggly line. The pattern called for this Lazy Daisy Cross stitch. I could not get it to work to my satisfaction. I remade it many times. I tried with the cross in the center and without the cross.

No matter how many times I tried one of the pedals always came out skinny and deformed.

So ...

Stocking Number 1 Week 2 from mequilter

I did find a good amount of time to stitch this week.
I can see the progress I have made and the starting of the shape of the toe part of the stocking.

Close up of stocking. The show on the left didn't end where it should have. I recounted and took out part of it twice. So I have to check it out today with fresh eyes. I was doing that last night at about 8 PM. Eyes are tired by that time of the day.

I have some card making to do this week,
so I won ...

Stocking Number 1 Mistake from mequilter

So, Saturday evening I was stitching away and I had almost completed the second tree trunk when I noticed my stitches were not lined up correctly.
Yup, I had got almost to the bottom going both directions.

Ask me if I was a happy camper?
Here is a close up with an arrow to help you see my mistake.
I never found it as I unstitched.

I double-checked the top to make sure I was OK on that end, guess what I was off there also.
The green branch is correct, and I triple checked that! And the first couple ...

Stocking Number 1 End of Week 1 from mequilter

Well, I have have been stitching whenever I have had a few minutes. Sometimes in big blocks of time. I sure have been enjoying the process of doing handwork.

Here is my progress as of this morning January 29, 2020.

I am excited the house is done. Well, I do have to finish some windows. I also have to do a tree on each side and one in the arch. I am so glad this section has gone smoothly.

Looking at the graph on the screen gave me an answer to a concern I had. See all that snow, I ...

Stocking Number 1 from mequilter

I started with Nick's stocking because his fabric count was just one size bigger and I didn't want my old eyes to strain anymore then they were going to be. You know as a warm-up to this new task before them.
In one evening I Fray Checked the edges so they won't unravel while I worked and I found the center of the fabric and loaded it on my frame. Of course, I have adventures in all that I do. My old bottle of Fray Check was solid as a rock and I had to run out ...

It is a New Year and a New Project from mequilter

The Big Sister to my adopted daughters is getting married on the 15th of February.  She is unofficially one of ours also. Over the years she has been very attentive to the girls and is involved with them. She is here for every Holiday and celebration. She takes the girls so we can go away and she does things with them when she can. She supports me and what I am trying to teach the girls. She watched me make the girls' stockings. And sees all the other stockings of the whole family. She and her fiance have stockings here ...
