Socks and Spinning from Thread Head

This week I finished knitting a pair of socks out of handspun yarn.

They are regular toe-up, two-at-a-time, 64 stitches, on a 2.5mm needle socks.
This is the yarn,
and the fibre I dyed - a BFL/Nylon blend.
This week I spun this fibre that I had dyed - a Merino/Mohair blend (the first time I have used this blend for socks).
It spun up lovely, and ended up being quite fine (a fingering weight), I thought maybe the mohair would puff up a bit after finishing, but it didn't.
I decided to join in the DRK Spin ...

Day 19 - Socks from Thread Head

I finished another pair of handspun socks.

These are made from a BFL/Nylon blend that I dyed and spun.

Shades of green and burgundy.

I knit these two-at-a-time, toe-up and used almost all the yarn.

All the best!♥︎

May Update from Thread Head

This past month I finished a few projects that had been in the works for a long time!

This is a Baby Jane (small Dear Jane) quilt that I started in 2012. I made blocks here and there, and finally decided that there was enough to make a wall hanging (I never had the intention to make the full size quilt). The blocks are about 4" and the quilt is 33"x39".

It fits perfect with the wall quilts in the sewing room.

These are small art quilts that I made in 2013 (I challenged myself to make a small ...

Another Month Gone By from Thread Head

So much to show after a month!

This is probably the finish that has been the longest in the making -

This is my version of the Pieces of Time quilt by Lori Smith. It started as a block of the month with friends in 2013. I have had the blocks made for a while and had to start on the appliqué border. I finally realized that it would never get done and a finished quilt would be better than blocks sitting in a box, so I added sashing, corner blocks and a border and finished it up. I am happy ...

Summer Time Fun from Thread Head

It is always amazing how fast summer flies by!

The garden has done so well, and we are canning or freezing something everyday.

We even have proper corn to eat (we have tried on and off for years without much luck).

I finished making a few things recently-

I sewed a dress with fabric that I thought I would make a skirt with last month.
The pattern is from this Japanese magazine (vol 10 - Amazon link).
My Mom and I have made so many things from this one issue, that the magazine is bulging with the traced tissue paper patterns ...

May Round-Up from Thread Head

I am glad that I signed up for challenges at the beginning of the year - they are really motivating me.

For the May One Monthly Goal I wanted to finish two mini quilts, and I just got the second one finished today!

This is what I made with the Stay at Home Sampler blocks from the Temecula Quilt Company on Instagram. The quilt is 20"x30".

The other is this Thimble Quilt I talked about last time (14"x25").

Since we are still staying home because of COVID 19 I am choosing to do things that I really enjoy, so ...

May Plans and Some Other Things from Thread Head

My May One Monthly Goal is to finish a couple of mini quilts.

The first is from Temecula Quilt Co on Instagram - the Stay at Home Sampler.

And this one is the end of my tub of little thimbles that have been leaders and enders for years (I have made about 4 different mini quilts so far - now I am debating about cutting more or getting a bit bigger template for a change).

Thanks Patty for hosting this challenge!

I finished a pair of socks using fibre that I dyed last month.

Finished yarn - about fingering to sport weight BFL ...

Sewing and Knitting from Thread Head

I finished the Tiny Tree quilt from the Temecula Quilt Company blog.

For my home I thought it would work better as a Christmas cushion, so I added some pinwheel blocks to the side, and some filler strips to make a 16" square. The pinwheels were made with the same size squares as the one in the tree, but I didn't trim the half square triangles as small, so the blocks are a bit bigger.

The cushion goes really well with our Christmas quilt - which was the TQC mystery quilt from last Christmas (Secret Santa Sew Along).

I free ...

Knitting Sleeves from Thread Head

I don't know why it still surprises me how long it takes to knit sleeves!

Maggie can never resist the cord stoppers
I think I have been knitting these sleeves for three weeks and I am still only half way there (I am blaming it on knitting two at a time - there is lots of repositioning). I am hoping to have them finished by Thursday. They should go faster now that there will be more decreasing happening towards the wrists. I put the body stitches on hold after finishing the first ball of wool, so I could knit the ...
