Koi Pond Wall Hanging from From My Carolina Home

I have had this piece of fabric for a couple of years. I got it at a fabric sale at a friend’s home with mostly Japanese fabrics. I wasn’t sure how I wanted to incorporate it into a project as the motif is pretty big. I thought about using the fish as appliques, but two out of the three have a bit clipped off the tail. So it needs to be put into a project as it is. As I was cleaning out fabrics in the last couple of weeks, I found the pebble fabric, and it clicked ...

Working on Projects from From My Carolina Home

On Sunday I showed you the two precut packs of Japanese fabrics I have had for some months. My idea was to use them in some way to embellish this green sweatshirt into a jacket. It is the one where I removed a patchwork and lace applique on both sides that was just too much.

When I opened the squares pack, the fabrics were just gorgeous. But they are primarily a black background, which I thought would go better on a black jacket.

I just happened to have one. I purchased a well fitting, petite sized, fleece jacket and sewed ...

Progress on the Japanese Art Quilt from From My Carolina Home

This past week has seen significant progress on the art quilt with the Japanese fabrics. I showed the base last week, and I have since completed the binding. I did it in the same black as the border, so it now is framed in double black with the pieced border between.

With the base binding in progress for hand work, I worked on the two circles on the machines. The larger one was loaded on the longarm with black batting. The backing is muslin, as it will not be seen.

Quilting is echo free hand around the motifs in the ...

Lots of Projects and No Progress from From My Carolina Home

It seems like all I am doing lately is flitting from one project to another and not making progress on anything. I loaded Quadrille on the longarm, and have been staring at it for days, with no plan on how to custom quilt it. The big reveal for Quadrille’s last step and final block is Friday. Would you like a sneak peek to see it on the frame?

Oh, you really didn’t think I’d give it away ahead of time, did you? Bwahahaha!! But you can see the lovely pink dogwood print I’m using for backing ...

Sunday Chat from From My Carolina Home

This week sure has had its ups and downs. The euphoria of the new recommendations for vaccinated people being able to resume normal activities inside and outside was long awaited, and wonderful. So we feel free to meet our vaccinated friends, and have a meal inside a restaurant. But the flip side is that there was not a single gas station in our small town that had any gas for several days. So, this week has been only very essential trips, combining grocery pickups with pickleball practice. Add to that the three bridges over the freeway between our home and ...

Making a few gifts from Quilting & Learning

I'm really trying to avoid deadlines and I didn't decide to make a few gifts for Christmas lightly since I don't want these to be IOU gifts!

Christmas gift exchange

I am going to a potluck with my colleagues and of course there is a gift exchange. You know....unisex and under $20 (not including taxes). Personally I usually go for something edible but this year, I had a Christmas mug rug that's been hanging around my sewing room for the last year since I made it after Christmas. That seemed like a good way to ...
