Bonnie's Blossoms with Island Batik Getaway Hop from Sew Incredibly Crazy

Welcome to the Getaway Blog Hop!

The 2018 Island Batik Ambassadors

 have been busy
sewing with some beautiful
secret fabrics.
with some secret sewing.
Today is that day that I am able to show what I have
been sewing.

Brookview is a beautiful fabric collection by Island Batik.
It has such a gorgeous variety of burgundys, greens, blues and yellows.

There is a hint of peacock feathers and trees
throughout the prints.
It has to be one of my favorite collections.

Most of the fabric collection is found in this
new quilt that I created called Bonnie's Blossoms.

The ...

Lots of Color Scrappy Strips from Heart Desire Creations

Two packs of bright narrow strips (Windham Foundation) turned into lots of sewing fun. What a joy to work with such bright prints! I decided to work with columns of the strips and added a wider black and white piece every so often. No real plan here, just fun sewing. This wasn’t going to be very big and when I finished this much, I took a picture. Oh dear, much too busy. It was almost enough for me to put aside but I knew if I did that it might not see the light of day for a long ...

Flannel Finish from Heart Desire Creations

The first Hospice quilt of the year is done! It’s such a happy and bright quilt and the flannel is so warm and cozy. This was such an easy finish as the donated blocks had been quilted onto batting.  I squared the blocks, pieced them, backed and did simple quilting along the seam lines and then diagonally.

I’m thrilled to have a Hospice finish this early in the year. My gratitude to the donor for all the hours of work that were put into the blocks before they were sent to me. Our little quilting group meets this ...

Last Quilt of 2018 from Heart Desire Creations

Taking a break until 2019 is in order but I want to first share my final finish of 2019.  I had many 2 1/2 inch strips of Kaffe fabric. Some were from a design roll and some from another project.  Never have I ever done a Jelly Roll Race quilt so I thought that might be fun. However, after separating the light and darks, I decided on something a bit more dramatic.

Matching the diagonal strips was a bit challenging, but once I figured out the method, it wasn’t too bad. I really like the look and best ...

Snowing at the Cabin with Island Batik from Sew Incredibly Crazy

My two favorite things to do as
an Island Batik Ambassador

are getting to play with theses
gorgeous fabrics and
the chance to challenge myself.

November's challenge was the Cozy Cabin.
I once again turned to this gorgeous selection
of fabric - Blue Moon.

I absolutely love it.
I made a table runner with the fabric line
in September.

You can read about it here.

You can find some of the collection at

I had plenty 2.5" strips left to make a few
log cabin blocks and
more than enough beautiful Aurifil thread.
Well, I was only ...

Cozy Cabins Log Cabin Challenge from Heart Desire Creations

An Island Batik Adventure

Cozy Cabins

What better project for the cold and wet we are experiencing this time of year than “Cozy Cabins.”  Once again, as I try to minimize the number of Works in Progress I have in my studio, I thought of something simpler for this month’s Island Batik Ambassador project.

img_0877.jpg

I love log cabins! At first I thought I’d do a table runner, but honestly, I have plenty of those and wasn’t very inspired. I also knew I didn’t want to do a full quilt. Ah Hah! Potholders! These will also make great stocking ...

Paper Piecing Fun from Heart Desire Creations

An Island Batik Adventure

Needle, Paper, Scissors (Large)Paper Piecing – I have done quite a bit of it, enjoy it, but was not up for a big project for the Island Batik October project.  My answer? A pin cushion! The pattern: Turning Points by Hunter’s Design Studio. I chose to do the mug rug size rather than the actual pin cushion size. That was just a little too teenie for me!

A deep green was chosen for the base and picking out pretty colors for the little flying geese was fun! See them colorfully flying in a circle?!

Stars and Snowflake Table Runner with Island Batik from Sew Incredibly Crazy

It seems that September slipped
away from me and I had to post
this challenge a day into October.

Let's just say that September
in whole was a challenge and
I am thankful to have had a moment
to make this beautiful project using
Island Batik Blue Moon.

It is a beautiful mix of vibrant
blues, purples, and white.

With winter and the Christmas season
just around the corner, I thought
how nice it would be to have a
pretty table runner using
the fabric Blue Moon.

Since the fabric has
a winter feel to it, it
definitely needed ...

Starstruck from Heart Desire Creations

An Island Batik Adventure

thumbnail_B64C9CBC-FAEB-4EC8-947D-2B48AF0F2CED[2] (Large)

This September the Island Batik Ambassadors were Starstruck! No clue at all what I was going to do for this one. Sometimes the creative ideas run a bit flat. I thought of a Christmas theme or maybe Christmas ornaments. I was leaning towards something small and not too involved.

Starstruck

Then…I got the call…My great niece was pregnant! Yes, a great, great niece is on the way! The next day I was sent pics of quilts she fancied for her “constellation” themed nursery. Of course I was going to make her a quilt but was ...

A Finish and A Winner! from Heart Desire Creations

9B393F23-1B7C-4021-AFF7-2054D8B076DC (Large)

Yes! Another Hospice finish.  This quilt top was done when I was first quilting. I found it in the bottom of a bin and finished it for a Hospice – perfect lap sized quilt. My hope is that the lavender will bring calm and peace to the recipient. I really, really like the backing fabric.

Love the Birds – Great Outdoors Blog Hop and Giveaway from Heart Desire Creations

An Island Batik AdventureGreat Outdoors Blog Hop

“The Great Outdoors” – what a broad subject! Hubby and I do love the great outdoors. we walk, hike, bike ride, and kayak.  The heat of the summer, however, doesn’t agree with us for such activities and we do spend a great deal of time on our screened porch enjoying the great outdoors of our yard. We have lots of plantings, live among the trees and have a LOT of birdhouses.  Several bird couples have moved in at different times this season, had babies and have now relocated.  Several bird feeders and a bird bath keep ...

Yup – It’s September! from Heart Desire Creations

Looking at my August listing, you might wonder – “what have you been doing?” My Island Batik January project is now a flimsy. The quilting won’t be happening right away. It feels so good to be so very close to completing the year! Don’t forget to stop by on Tuesday, September 4, for my Great Outdoor project for the IB Blog Hop and a giveaway!

Two quilts came back from the long arm professional. I so want to trim and bind them but there just hasn’t been a chance to do that. We were in Chincoteague, Virginia for ...

Toppers & Runners from Heart Desire Creations

A friend of mine’s church which was founded in 1765, is having a special breakfast honoring the patriots of the American Revolutionary War. She somehow got volunteered to make 12 table toppers and 3 table runners. Although an amazing seamstress, quilting is not her thing. I was glad to help! We recently got together for about 3 hours. So glad she was all about keeping it simple, simple, simple.  I cut, she sewed.

As you can see, these table toppers are very simple. I did need to do a few after she left because I just didn’t want ...
