Garden Path from Quilt Doodle Doodles...

Spring is right around the corner and I just can't wait for warmer days and watching things grow in my garden. I have been planning my garden over the last couple of weeks and have ordered seeds and also have started some seeds indoors. I've invested in some grow lights last year and I love them. Best investment ever. Gosh, Amazon has everything...

I have even wintered over a couple of container gardens that I put on display by my front door during the summer. They are full of Boston Ferns and Wandering Jew. I'm amazed the ...

Burgoyne Surrounded by Irish 52, 53, 54 from Virtual Quilter

Basic piecing, interesting design.

More interesting than the first.

The final design for the day, and my favourite.

Irish 9 Patch 1, 2, 3 from Virtual Quilter

This is just a recolouring of the Irish 9P project file … the old colours were pretty dull!

Nothing like a bit of green to freshen things up.

Love the second design!

The blocks are simply Nine Patch, nine squares, usually four light and five dark, which form a Single Irish Chain with alternate plain blocks. However, I have placed the dark fabrics in different places in most blocks, and used more or less of the dark than the usual five squares. If you sort your scraps from light to dark, put those in the middle back into the scrap basket ...

Tangled Irish Chain Apps 10, 11, 12 from Virtual Quilter

Love the first design for today.

Love, love, love the second one!

Must be some Irish blood in my veins, though if that is the case I should have used shamrocks for the applique! And the quilting.

Love the last one too … or three!

Tangled Irish Chain Blues 35, 36 from Virtual Quilter

I should have used green for Irish, but Tangled Irish Chain Blues had a better ring to it … and I was trying to make myself use blue in my designs.

This is one of many of my project files nearing it’s use by date … which means I will have to create some new virtual quilt projects. I am going to have lots of fun!

Irish Chain and Loopy Stuff 4, 5 from Virtual Quilter

Can you see that the applique blocks have squares pieced into the corners?

I like the one above … and should try this idea with different appliques. I think I need another seven days in my weeks so there is time to play in EQ8 for more hours.

Ava's Garden Twin Size Quilt Kit! from Busy Hands Quilts

Ava's Garden has been kitted by Connecting Threads in Wild Crimson in the Twin size!  This is a twist on a classic design and is oh so sparkly!

The Wild Crimson fabric collection is a great mix of shades of blue, deep red, tan, and cream with a lot of blenders that are so easy to work with.

The large blocks in Ava's Garden go together quickly, and would you believe this is a layer cake friendly quilt pattern?  Yep!  Toss in a few other fabrics and go!

Irish Chain Quilts from Quilt Collection M.

Irish log Cabin OP 2626, 27, 28 from Virtual Quilter

A Single Irish Chain block is pieced like a Chimneys and Cornerstones, a variation of the Log Cabin block, so it seemed logical to me to colour the Irish Chain blocks like a Cornerstones block … and mix in the other Irish Chain blocks.

Interesting effect with some of the blocks washed out!

I have just realized that I have only used Single and Triple Irish Chain blocks … need to find more time to play with these!

I also seem to have misplaced Irish Log Cabin designs in straight settings … setting out on a search party to find that project file.

Winter Solstice Rainbow Throw Quilt! from Busy Hands Quilts

This week's finish is a Winter Solstice Throw quilt in a rainbow of Peppered Cottons.  The gray chains are made with two shades of gray for added texture.  These quilt blocks were made to test the pattern last spring, and they were set aside until this week.

Winter Solstice has been kitted by Connecting Threads in Faux Linen, a lovely textured-looking fabric in solid-ish colors.  Our color schemes are very similar which is amazing since I was just using a fat quarter bundle I had on hand.

Quilt Alongs ... ein Start ins Irish-Chain Vergnügen from Quilt Collection M.

Meandering Around with our Longarm Renters from Quilted Joy

One of the quilting world’s staple designs is the meander. Sometimes we don’t even think of the meander as a design. It is just a single line wiggling all over the quilt. The word meander actually comes from the name of a river in south western Turkey that has a lot of twists and turns. Now it just means to follow a winding course. However you define it, on a quilt it means a quilting texture that doesn’t add an additional design to the top. It is just nice and neutral. The following quilts are some of ...
