All the Hiccups in the Process from Quilty Folk

The Big Kiss quilt is totally finished up now! This one was started back in 2020 mostly because I could not resist the siren call of the simple, graphic design.

The Big Kiss quilt is finished!
The top was complete {I thought} in about June of that year, but then, it just wasn't. I fiddled around with idea during the following January and then, finally got to true-blue quilt top stage by April

A little applique can go a very long ways!
Anyone who knows me understands that a quilt top has to be 'just right' before I can ...

New Decostitch and Floral Elements Colors from Art Gallery Fabrics-The Creative Blog

Hello makers and fabric lovers!

With a new season upon us, what better way to honor the bright colors of spring with new shades of a couple of our most popular blenders: Floral and Decostitch Elements! These six new colors of each are perfect to add to your stash of AGF blenders since they make up a few missing shades between some, and they work well with others.

If you’re unsure what blenders are and how to use them, check out this previous blog post that gives you great ideas on how to use these non-directional fabrics.

Gallery – Educator Challenge Quilts 2021 from Essie's Quilts

If you have ever been lucky enough to visit Handi Quilter, you know we have a gallery on the 2nd floor. There’s always a quilt show there! A new collection was recently hung, the 2021 Educator Challenge quilts.

The Challenge

A little history: most years the Handi Quilter national educators are issued a challenge of some sort. In 2021 we were given some fabrics and asked to make 12 identical 8″ blocks. We could choose any block to make. When we met, we saved one block and turned in the remaining eleven to be distributed among those who participated ...

Ideas, Ideas....Everywhere Ideas on Off the Wall Friday from Creations - Quilts, Art, Whatever by Nina-Marie Sayre

This one is mine - its from the Pittsburgh Children's Museum

Another week of winter done.  Little by little more light is coming in the windows and we are getting that much closer to spring.  When you live on the Great Lakes days are grey so every bit of sunshine is cherished.  This week, I did manage to get some sewing in and put a nice black frame on my exercise

piece.   I'm all happy with it.
This is from Bayside of Erie

With that done, I noticed I was only  10 weeks from my class with Timna Tarr ...

More Easy Echo Designs – Free Motion Quilting for Beginners from Gwen's Quilts

As promised, we’ll learn some more easy echo designs. How did you do with the peacock feathers? I’d love to see some pics in the comments!

We can modify the teardrop shape of the peacock feather to create a similar but very different looking design.

Leaves

Start with a leaf shape. You should be proficient at stitching leaves by now. If not, go back to this post for a review and more practice.

     OR

Then just like the teardrop, echo it.

And echo again.

Start a new leaf and do it again to travel around your quilt.

Pure Solids Selvage Pin Cushion Tutorial from Art Gallery Fabrics-The Creative Blog

IMG_3486-MODIFIED-blog

Hi makers!

The holidays are coming to an end once again, so it’s time for cleaning, eating leftovers, and deciding on New Year's resolutions. One of my resolutions for this next year is to try and be more eco-friendly and reduce my carbon footprint as much as I can. I was recently shown these super cute pin cushions that use those scraps that almost always get thrown away due to no usage… selvages. Here at AGF, we have so many colorful Pure Solids with selvages that include the name of the color, so what a great idea it ...

Pressed for Space? from From the Strawberry Patch...

Have you ever found yourself in need of a small, portable ironing table; one that you can keep right beside your sewing machine to quickly press open small seams as you go? I have. It seems that I am always up and down, from my chair to the ironing board and back; although it's good exercise, it's less than efficient. I was inspired by Lori Holt's tutorial on DIY ironing boards while watching her

Twixmas? from From the Strawberry Patch...

A blog-reading friend sent me the link to another blogger  who recently had a most interesting post regarding Twixmas. The term was new to me, but once I read the post I understood fully why my friend had forwarded it to me. After that last post regarding the self-imposed "grace period" granted between Christmas and New Year's, I learned that, according to this afore-mentioned blogger, what I was

2022 Fairy Duo - Leticia and Jolean from easypatchwork

Hi there! I am really excited to share with your the newest set of easypatchwork Paper Doll Fairy, Leticia and Jolean. This collection of fairies is made with 16" foundation paper pieced figures, a great size to get into paper piecing and create a throw pillow for a special person in your life.

The 2022 fairy, Leticia, was just too cute not to have her sister, Jolean, join in the celebration this year. Each one has her own style. You can even mix the heads, bodices and dresses from both figures to create more if you wish.

Holiday Blessings on Off the Wall Friday from Creations - Quilts, Art, Whatever by Nina-Marie Sayre

I've been wanting to make a decent Christmas quilt for a while now but haven't found the right vibe for one.  I've made two before and never really "loved" them.  I want to find a design that will stand the test of time and will age well. Maybe one that is seasonal rather than holiday.  The funny thing is that I never think about it till it's Christmas and then it's too late.  I don't know...maybe it's because I I just haven't found the right one yet!  hmmmm...anyway since it ...

All you need to do is take a look around your environment. There are quilting motifs everywhere!
