Several ideas for relatively simple quilts consisting of basic units, (like square HST units and flying geese). If you are looking for 'mindless' chain piecing, check these out! XXX Annika Continue reading

read moreI am not even close to finishing the Fiesta top. I keep forgetting that even though I laid out the blocks and thought I had the block placement all figured out, I’ve been changing it as I go — so it’s not just a matter of sewing the blocks together now but moving them around and — well, just changing things on every row since the second one!
So all I’ve got are some more pics of a few of the blocks. First a pretty blue star block.
Some of the star blocks have a frame, so to speak ...
read moreThe colourful Fiesta blocks are the perfect antidote to the grey days of winter that we’ve had so many of this year. I have enough of the fabric left to use in some other project that calls for some wild and colourful fussy cut pieces.
The effects from fussy cutting/printing a fabric always is a bit of a surprise until the pieces are sewn together. The fabric I used to fussy cut/print for Fiesta has definitely been that – and then some. It was fun to see each block as I finished it.
Some of the stars end ...
read moreThis book arrived and I want to make almost every one of the quilts in it! So it’s a very good thing I got Dance of the Poinsettias done before the book arrived.
The cover quilt is called Fiesta Gitana and I knew I had to make it the second I saw those skinny stars. An Inklingo Fiesta Gitana collection was released and I was off to the races.
In no time I had all the pieces printed, cut out and in a box that was just perfect for the Fiesta quilt.
And those skinny stars turned into some ...
read moreI know, I know — it has been an extremely long time since I blogged. I am going to give it yet another try and hope to post twice a week — at least at first. I’ve missed blogging and, given the fact that this is like a diary of my quilting, I know I’m going to look back and wonder what I was doing!
One thing I was doing was finishing Dance of the Poinsettias, my version of Can Can from Millefiori Quilts 3 made using the Inklingo Can Can collection. As it’s winter and the roof garden ...

read moreWhere have I been? I’ve been around but had nothing quilt-related to write about or photograph. Thankfully, something finally jolted me out of the creative doldrums!
It’s called Mariner’s Whirl, which is a Jinny Beyer design (Beyer 382-12) for which three sizes of Inklingo collections (12″, 16″ and 20″) were released. That was what really got me back to working on projects but – surprising myself completely, I chose the 20″ collection to make first. I have ideas about making something with the 12″ size as well, but I wanted to play with the largest size.
And it ...
read moreI’ve now added ten of the 10-point stars to my version of Can Can, now Dance of the Poinsettias. I’d finished the little pink units I showed in my post on Friday and had actually already added one before I remembered to take the progress picture.
The back after pressing. I’m grading the seams right away which helps when pressing.
The next round requires ten large 10-point stars. I need to make a total of 16 more large 10-point stars for the entire top and I may — I haven’t decided this yet — make all 16 before ...

I’m cutting two inch white strips for sashing and a four inch white border. Keeping it simple.
Not for any particular baby. I’m just calling all of my small quilts (about 36″x48″) baby quilts. I have a 21 year old granddaughter- so someday they may have a recipient.
Meanwhile it is a good format for trying out patterns I’ve wanted to make. Even though it would have been an easy pattern to sew on the machine it is hand pieced.
There will be 12 squares and I’m planning on a two inch white sashing and a four inch white border with a wonderful Kaffe floral print backing and binding. It will be custom ...
