A New Convert and more FLW from The Cozy Quilter

One of my colleagues at work, Sam, has a niece who will soon be celebrating her first birthday. Several months ago, she expressed an interest in quilting so I invited her to come to my house and make an I Spy quilt for her niece's birthday. The first night, Sam picked out fabrics from my extensive collection of I Spy fabrics and cut out 6 1/2" squares.  She laid them out on my design wall and moved them around until she had the arrangement she liked.  The second evening, she started sewing them together to make her quilt ...

Baby Quilt #3 DONE! from The Cozy Quilter

This is the last of three baby quilts that I have been working on for the last while.  My husband and I went for a bike ride after supper tonight and then sat in the gazebo--He read a book and I finished off the last two sides of the hand stitching on the binding.  Since it is the longest day of the year, I even had some daylight when I finished to take a few pictures to share on my blog.

I quilted and X in each four patch and in each brick.  I used lots of fun prints in ...

Hugs and Kisses – Block 6 from Simple Bird Applique

It’s June already!  Can that be right?  Block 6 was a delight to make.  I love it because it looks rather complicated, but it honestly consists of mainly circles, and a few curvy flowers, just for fun.  The block has a few different sizes of circles so it is a really good practice blocks.  I always say “to get really good at something you have to do it a lot of times!”  Or…Practice makes perfect!

So Block 6 starts with some tiny stems and some large flower.  I know I have shown this tip before, but I think ...

Ongoing Projects from The Cozy Quilter

I have a few projects in process at the moment and work on whatever strikes my fancy when I have a bit of sewing time.   I took a scrappy appliqué class with Shannon Brinkley a couple of weeks ago and am in the process of quilting my wallhanging.  Here is a sneak peak.  I will do a more detailed post about the class and the quilt when it is done. I'm using orange thread for the quilting.

I'm also working on an I Spy baby quilt...the top is pieced and it is waiting to be quilted.  I ...

Fountain Art Glass by FLW --a new project from The Cozy Quilter

I started my new counted cross stitch project this week. It doesn't look like much yet but it will get there.  I am so happy to be cross stitching again!

The entire picture is 6" by 17".  I started in the middle.  Hopefully, it will look more identifiable as I add more stitches.

We had some strong winds last night and this happened in our backyard:

First one side...

And then the other side...

It took three of us to get it taken down and tidied up.  Luckily, there was no damage to the bushes and plants in the ...

Baby Quilt DONE! from The Cozy Quilter

I finished off my I Spy baby quilt this week...it even has a label!  I have made several I spy quilts over the years and have never repeated a pattern...each one is unique.  I am quite pleased with the green sashing and binding on this quilt.  It will be given to a new baby girl in the family.  Our extended family has been very prolific lately so I still have two more baby quilts to make to get caught up!

Here is a close up of the quilting.  It should hold up well being washed over and over ...

I Spy Baby Quilt from The Cozy Quilter

You may remember seeing this quilt top a few weeks ago.  Life has been rather busy lately (more on that later in the post) so I did not have time to quilt this top until this week.  I do my pin basting on my kitchen floor.  It's a little hard on the knees, but it did not take too long to get all those pins in place.

I started by using a serpentine stitch to quilt the sashing.

My daughter had a wooden Thomas train set when she was little.  We had a canoe when I was a child ...

Baby Quilt Top and Some EPP from The Cozy Quilter

I cut out some 6 1/2" squares last week for a baby quilt.  I tried to lay them out in a checkerboard pattern--white background and coloured squares but it looked a bit blah.   I dug through my stash to see if I had some brightly coloured fabric that I could use as sashing...

This looks a lot better!  There are a lot of squares with this colour of green in them so it works perfectly!  The sashing finishes at 1".  I decided not to do an outer border and just bind the quilt in the same green after I ...
