Our Anniversary Weekend from Val's Quilting Studio

We both took a little extra time off work last week and escaped to this quaint little town of Lava Hot Springs, Idaho to celebrate our 30th Wedding Anniversary. It's rich in history as for centuries before it was turned into a settlement, the Bannock and Shoshone Indian tribes gathered here to bathe, rest, and worship in the natural, odor-free mineral waters found in this quiet valley.
In 1911, the State of Idaho began developing the hot springs into what is now a main street of hotels, restaurants and ol' time western bars that greet visitors with a smile ...

Thirty Years Ago.... from Val's Quilting Studio

A peek into an old scrapbook reminds hubby and I of our joyful beginning
as husband and wife thirty years ago today. Thirty years!!
(No digital photos back in 1989.)

My handmade wedding dress, vowing to be "Together Forever"...we sat and chuckled over breakfast as we flipped in reflection through this old scrapbook. We found ourselves discussing how lucky we feel to have grown-up together, amazed at how much we've accomplished and conquered, grateful that our marriage only grew stronger as we've traveled this so-called journey of life together.

And oh how I still remember the joy ...

Best of 2018 Linky from Val's Quilting Studio

I like participating in Cheryl's "Best of" Linky Party as it creates the opportunity and motivation for me to look back and see how my year of blogging and quilting has been.
My "word" for 2018 was CREATE. But....in reflection, well, THAT didn't really happen now did it. I find myself wondering, how can so much happen in a year, and yet, so much not. In review, I did finish seven quilts, but if I were to be honest, it was more a year of self growth than creative expression. It's not the details that matter ...

Pajama Days, Legos, and Learning to Sew... from Val's Quilting Studio

Someone jumped in the truck with his Meme and Poppi to enjoy a few days of
"Grammy Camp" after our visit for brother's first birthday:

Unfortunately, he came down with a high fever and strep throat by Monday. After a visit to the doctor, we spent the rest of our visit cozy and quiet in our PJ's. His days were restfully spent watching cartoons with Jackson by his side, building Legos with his Poppi at night along with Chicken soup for dinner to warm his little tummy.

After a few days, he and his Poppi had a whole ...

A Mental Health Day=A Great Hike! from Val's Quilting Studio

Once or twice a year, I treat myself to a Mental Health day off from work. So when my niece's volleyball team was in town for college play and my sister decided to drive across the state to gather a set of videos of her on the court, I knew exactly what to do.
Yep! The next day I took a mental health day. We loaded the pups into the car, took our "selfie"
and headed to Boise (only a 45 minute drive away) for a day hike.

Our hike began at the Old Idaho Penitentiary....

 ...and our destination ...

Fall Fun! from Val's Quilting Studio

I really want to try my hand at making some home-made applesauce this year.
So before we hit the golf course yesterday, we went apple picking.

We found ourselves having to climb a bit to get to our yummy fruit but had fun as we worked to maneuver ourselves between all the branches, feeling like a little kid...but surely not as agile!

They had an apple that was a cross between the Jonathan and Golden (JonaGolds) recommended for applesauce. I can tell you, from the first bite, I knew these were going to be worth the climb!
We spent ...

5 tips on #nursingschool in your 40s from TwynMawrMom

Hello, it's me again! Your "always doing, always trying" favorite twyn mommy.

I've been busy.

I know, you know.

I GRADUATED NURSING SCHOOL Y'ALL!
It feels great, it really, really does.

Introducing #club40. More on them later.

I think there is, however, in the back of ALL of our #newnursegraduate minds, the looming state board examination known as NCLEX. I have not gotten my "authority to test" (ATT) yet, and it's killing me slowly. I wanted to take my time studying, but I honestly just want to get the thing done and over with, too. So ...

I-Spy Many Smiles! from Val's Quilting Studio

I-Spy three happy boys!
Earlier this summer I made this lap size eye-spy for these three special little guys. I finished it's quilting and binding on just in time for the arrival of their new little brother. (Who's wrapped in a receiving blanket I made especially for him! Along with a hand knitted blanket by my mom.)
These are just one of those ultimate moments we quilters love isn't it!

So while his cousins above are celebrating the arrival of their new brother,
this little grand-guy of ours started Pre-k this year!

Annnnddddd this little guy is ...

A Hexie Update from Sew........This Is My Blog

I started making hexies a while back.  Not because I love hexies.  Just because I wanted to always have some handwork available when I needed something to do.  I even took them along to the beach in June and never touched them.  Maybe I liked having them along just in case.  Or maybe I didn't want to mess up that beautiful box, it was so pretty, and organized!

I don't really have any kind of plan for putting them together, I just know I want to do something different. (Surprised?) I've decided to go Improv, just playing ...

And Then This Happened..... from Sew........This Is My Blog

June has been the craziest month ever!  I knew I would only be home for 10 days this month, what with two trips to St. Louis, one to Indianapolis, one to Asheville, and one to Destin.  I knew I would be too busy to get much, if any, sewing done.  BUT, I thought if I took it with me everywhere I went I could get a little hand sewing done.  AND, I really thought since I had lots of photos on my desktop of previous projects I would have time to blog at least a few times.  Huh!  Guess I ...

Tuesday Archives #196: Guess it's time for a break... from Val's Quilting Studio

Wow! Okay I missed my own linky party.
Val's Quilting Studio
Seriously....if that's not a sign I don't what is.
It's May...and May is always full of surprises for a teacher.
Personally, I've been thrown off course this past week.
Too many changes at work and at home...all at the same time.
Nothing bad. But never-the-less change and adjusting to the fact things will be different.
June first I'll also be on summer break...which means yet, another change.
I find myself tranquil on my days off as I enjoy mornings of movie watching, afternoon ...

Looking Back and Looking Forward #4 from Quilting Nonnie

I want to say first thing that I'm very, very sorry, chagrined, guilt-ridden, and apologetic. Especially those in the northern parts of the USA, Russia, South Pole and lots of places around the world. However it exempts places like Australia, South America, and New Zealand.  Now that I think of it, I'm actually a friend, buddy and mate of those living south of the equator. Last week was a welcome break from winter here, especially after spending 9 days in Baltimore. Here in Santa Rosa, California, Northern California, and above-the-equator we had beautiful, wonderful, and astonishing weather. We ...

A Happy Anniversary & More! from Val's Quilting Studio

Oh My! I've been off having fun on vacation to sunny Arizona where we grew up.
Hubby and I celebrated our 29th Anniv...

...and my Dad celebrated his 80th.

Both on Super-Bowl Sunday! Can you say P A R T Y!!!!!

Yes! We got married on my Dad's birthday and never has a year gone by without the ongoing "joke" that my husband gets a "check-in-the-mail" every month for taking me off his hands. ARG!

We traveled together as a family and our little guy so enjoyed his first plane ride from Oregon to Arizona. Lucky me! He ...

Scrap Attack 2018 - January Report from Sew........This Is My Blog

I can't believe it's already time to report on what I accomplished for January's Scrap Attack and to set a goal for February.  I was glad my grandson pulled "Cut Up Blues" from my bag of goals last month.  I knew it would be easy because I am definitely not a blue person, and I don't have much of a blue stash.  This is what it looked like then .....

It looks like I had way more than I did, mainly because when I unfolded them most of the pieces looked like this .....

.... and this.

It didn ...

Christmas Joy! from Val's Quilting Studio

Our grand-guy is visiting with us until we bring him home on Christmas Eve.
His Poppi treated him to this special Reindeer pancake breakfast this morning:

He loves Rudolph this year and was over the moon happy! Nothing better than that to remind me of the true Joy of Christmas than to see it through the eyes of an energetic four year old.

He's of course, counting down the days until "Santa" arrives and in the mean time,
is keeping his Meme and Poppi hopping as they too begin to count down the days to Christmas. (LOL!) But having ...
