Charity Quilt #7 from Podunk Pretties

Who doesn't love blue and yellow?  It's one of my favorite combinations.  The wilder prints in this quilt are more fabrics that were to be used for making Vera Bradley style hand bags.

The rest of the fabrics were pulled from the stash to help slow down those wild prints.

The backing was also pulled from my stash.  I love this cute daisy print and have been holding onto it for over 10 yrs.  Just waiting on the right quilt pattern or quilt needing a backing.  It was hard to let her go but it's time for ...

Charity Quilt #6 2023 from Podunk Pretties

All of the fabrics in this quilt(front and back) were purchased at Walmart years ago when they decided to get rid of their fabric departments.  At $2 a yard I couldn't pass up even the ugliest of fabrics.

Back in those days I was a single mom working 10 to 12 hours a day, 6 or 7 days a week.  The quilts I made were commissioned or gifts.  It would take about 2 to 4 months to make a quilt in my spare time.

During this time is when I started building my fabric stash with the hopes ...

Charity Quilt #5 2023 from Podunk Pretties

After many comments saying my ugly charity quilts are not ugly I decided maybe I should look for a different charity for these quilts.  With a quick internet search I found a shelter in Indy that houses homeless women with children.  This shelter gives them a place to live and provides resources for rebuilding their lives.

The added bonus for me is I won't need to drive as far to deliver them.  And we won't need to go into the not so safe part of the city.  We can drop them off at one of there donation drop ...

Charity Quilt #4 2023 from Podunk Pretties

Oh my this is a bright one!  A few years ago I went crazy buying yellow fabrics.  Everyone was making yellow and gray or yellow and black quilts.  Some how I was pulled into the frenzy and made one quilt top in this colorway.  It still needs to be quilted.  This charity quilt is the same as the others, just large squares sewn together and minimal quilting.  The binding was made from the scraps.

She's a bright one that's for sure.  I Wouldn't exactly call her ugly either.

A few of these prints are from my days ...

Charity Quilt #3 ~ Kaffe Fassett from Podunk Pretties

This quilt is wild!  I'm not a fan of Kaffe Fasset but I must admit his fabrics are very eye catching.

To really appreciate the color we need to get a little closer.

This was a fat quarter bundle.  In order to have enough squares for the quilt I had to piece some of the squares.  I think it added a nice interest to the quilt.

The backing is a 1990's print I purchased from an estate sale many years ago.

The binding is scraps from the this quilt top and the scraps from the previous charity quilts ...

Charity Quilt #2 Finished from Podunk Pretties

Hi Quilty Friends!  Can you believe it?  Another charity(homeless) quilt finished!  It's exciting to see these quilts coming together so fast.

Quilters eye candy they are not and for that I'm happy.  Following the rules set for the specific charity insures they will get to where they need to go and serve their intended purpose.

The theme for this quilt was dark background florals. Some of these are vintage calicos I loved but knew I would never use.  It was time to let them go so they could do what they were meant to do.  Keep someone ...

Friday Finish ~ Charity Quilt #1 from Podunk Pretties

Hi Quilty Friends!  The first charity quilt is finished.  This quilt was made using partial layer cakes and a few cuts from my stash.  It's probably the quickest quilt I've ever made.  Literally a quilt in a day but I spread it out over 3 days.

Piecing the top took about an hour and a half.  Piecing the backing, about 30 minutes.  The franken-batting about 30 minutes.  The X quilting went really fast too, about an hour and half.

The machine applied binding was made using the scraps from the backing.

About another hour to cut and attach ...
