Midnight Sewing and Fun on Monday! from Humble Quilts

I stacked my "Etsy" store on one side of the spare bedroom as my sister and her grandson Zack were coming for a visit. I jokingly told him, "No quilting in the middle of the night!" (Note the bag of fabric rolls in the foreground)

The next morning he came down with these two, one was a conversation print with pencils! What are these? Can I have one? haha I asked my sister later what she thought he would do with it and she replied, "probably make a parachute" He cracked me up!

He loves Elsa.

Some of what I ...

Baby Quilt Done! from The Cozy Quilter

A few months ago, I dug into my flannel scraps and made a flannel vortex baby quilt top in an effort to tame the flannel scrap bin.  I ended up with a quilt top and a still full to overflowing flannel scrap bin.  Sigh...  This week, I finished off the quilting using this nifty attachment to keep my curved lines equidistant from each other as I sewed.  It worked really well!  I found some red Kona to use for the binding and now this quilt is in my baby quilt storage area, ready to give away when a baby comes ...

A Fun Week from The Cozy Quilter

This was a busy week, packed with fun activities and a short getaway with my husband to Niagara on the Lake. On Canada Day, we hosted a BBQ and played Bocce in our backyard before going to see the fireworks in the evening. Dessert featured ice cream, strawberries and butter tarts (a delicious Canadian invention). I spent some time on my secret project and managed to finish all of the units for the quilt top.  They are on my design wall and I hope to sew them together this coming week. Sorry, no pictures for now. I did some hand ...

Hand Stitching and a Secret Project from The Cozy Quilter

Another busy week! I continue to do some hand quilting on my Put a Ring on It quilt most days. I have developed a callus on my left pointer finger... the mark of a hand quilter.  I think I am a little over half finished with hand quilting this wall hanging.

I cut all the pieces for a secret project this week.  It seems to take me longer to pick the fabrics than it does to actually sew the quilt.  I seem to hum and haw over my choices for days on end, adding and subtracting fabrics, taking pictures, thinking ...

A Quilty Week from The Cozy Quilter

Last week, I told you about the quilt that wanted to be quilted by hand, not by machine.  After acquiring the thread I wanted to use (Aurifil 28 wt) last weekend, I started the quilting this week. I'm doing big stitch quilting, so far in the peel shapes and the arcs in the middle of the quilt.  I have figured out a quilting design for the middle of the quilt but have not started that part yet.  This is a slow stitching project, after all.

I visited our daughter and Finn last weekend.  I did lots of cross stitching ...

Almost 10 Years in the Making... from The Cozy Quilter

In October 2014, I took a class with Kaffe Fassett called "Overlapping Tiles".  We spent all day cutting squares and putting them on our design walls to come up with a pleasing composition.  Kaffe and Brandon came around the room to each quilter to make suggestions about colours/fabrics to add or take away and arranging the tiles. They added 5 fabrics to my quilt including the constant fabric--none of which I would have added myself.  I finished the quilt top a year ago. I originally planned to make a queen sized quilt, but eventually downsized it to a lap ...

Lupin Stitching in the Car in the Rain from The Cozy Quilter

Today, my husband was volunteering at a special event at a local museum.  I went with him so I could look at the WW2 displays around the property.  Shortly after we arrived, it started to rain and so I stayed in the car and listened to an audiobook while I added more stitches to my counted cross stitch Lupins. After about an hour, the rain stopped and the sun came out.  People started arriving and the day was a success.

I asked my daughter and Finn to send me a picture of her recent cross stitch finish and they sent ...

More Quilts for Survivors Blocks from The Cozy Quilter

I decided to make lots of HST's for this week's batch of blocks for Quilts for Survivors.  I did not have very much of either of these two fabrics for this block--I ended up piecing the middle square from three pieces of fabric to make it big enough.  You probably would not have noticed if I had not told you!

How about some flying geese?

Slanted Diamonds

Broken Dishes

Economy block variation

I actually have 14 blocks ready to donate now.  Two of them are not in this picture. Only 6 more to go to meet my goal ...

A Little White Lie from The Cozy Quilter

When my friend, Christine, asked me what I was sewing at the guild sewing day, I told her a little white lie.  I told her that I had worked on my sew together bag and that I had finally finished it. She asked me to send her a picture, which I "forgot" to do, until today, when I actually finished it!

The reason why I was not working on my Sew Together bag is because I was making one for Christine for her birthday.  I took her out for a birthday lunch on Friday and gave her the bag, and ...

Lupins from The Cozy Quilter

I was under the weather for a few days this past week and did not go near my sewing machine all week.  I managed to add some more stitches to my Lupins cross stitch and it is finally looking like more than just a purple blob.  There are still lots more purple stitches to do though...

Last week, Jill asked me what book I was reading.  My daughter gave me this book for Christmas--it is about a midwife in the late 1700's in Maine.  Excellent read--I highly recommend it!

I lead a monthly book club and I am currently ...

Did you see the sign? from Crazy Quilter on a Bike!

It's time for another adventure. How could I not enjoy my vacation to the max without attempting a hike!

I researched and found a decent hike—Lahaina Pali Trail on the west side. It's hard to get a good count on the distance, but the section I was going to do was about 4 KM.

So, I violated the first rule of hiking and went alone. I was cautious! And DH knew where I was.

OK—so this trail is not very well marked. I got to the top of the initial climb and spotted this old road ...

This and That on A Monday from Humble Quilts

I got my borders added and my corners complete!

I did mess up my corner length but oh well..... Fixed it and once it is quilted it shouldn't be too noticeable.

Am waiting for 10 yards of backing! This is the largest quilt I've ever made. (And ever want to make!)
My first choice was short so I had to look real quick and make a second choice. My first choice was a cheddar print backing. My second choice is a little sand colored background with a red print.  I hope I like it!

My first blog post ...

Uptown Complete! from Humble Quilts

This was my first completed quilt of 2024!

I made the blocks a little smaller than Gayle's original quilt. My blocks finish at 11.5"
It is still a good size quilt that measures approx 81"x 65"

I used Pepper Cory's shot cotton for the green setting triangles and the blocks background. I love the look, but it does tend to ravel a bit if you handle the block too much.

I had a lot of cheddar solid and opted to use that on the back.

Feels good to have this one completed!

After the big snow ...

Aurora Quilt Show from Humble Quilts

Good Morning! My photos loaded backwards so we will start with a quilt shop then the quilt show.

Not very many quilts shops in my area carry reproductions. I was happy to find one near the quilt show. They offered 20% off my entire order when I mentioned the quilt show! Bonus!

The greens were my favorites!

The Aurora quilt show is a fun one to attend although I don't think there were as many antique quilts on display. (will share those later this week)

I LOVED this fabric! It really made the quilt pop!

I'm not sure ...

Christmas is coming! from Crazy Quilter on a Bike!

The days just seem to be blurring into each other. Where is the time going? I guess as long as you're having fun, that's all that counts!

I had to zip out to check on something at Fabricland and ended up hitting Micheal's to buy some yarn and bought a few things on sale at Fabricland! Of course, I did!! I hardly buy anything anymore, so I was OK with my few purchases.

But look what I spotted at Micheal's.

The Wine Tasting and Chocolate shop!

So, while it was sweltering outside and has been for ...

Little Quilt and Baskets from Humble Quilts

Here's Janny's little quilt made from my "new old quilt" You can see it HERE. Each version is so adorable!

When I did my Bounty of Baskets workshop last month one of the ladies (I am so sorry I cannot remember who brought them) shared her string baskets from a class she took in Sisters.

Because one of my workshops is Bounty of Baskets and one is String Quilts Your Way I was inspired to make a string basket!!

I hope I can spice it up a little a liberated style border. It falls a little flat for ...

Monday Inspiration from Humble Quilts

As you know I am inspired by nature. Have you ever thought two wildflower colors  look bad together? Me either! I believe our natural world collides in a beautiful way.

Cant really go wrong with red and green.

Cheddar and white? Can't go wrong there!

Made for me by Sharon Tucker years ago.

Made for me by Brandy years ago.

Here are a couple photos from this weekend.

A Gift, Orange Blocks and a Walk in the Woods from The Cozy Quilter

On the way to sewing day on Monday, I stopped at the quilt store to pick up a gift for someone and some fabric to make a table runner for a friend who likes purple.   The lilac fabric jumped out at me as there are lots of lilacs in bloom here right now.   I bought three other colours that went with the lilacs and a striped fabric for the binding.  When I arrived at the sewing studio, of course I cut right into the new fabric and got to work on the table runner. (I was supposed to be working ...

A New Old Quilt Project from Humble Quilts

I'm working on a little "new" project that is a vintage quilt block.

Actually it is 4 little blocks together.
I used the flour sack I shared the other day as the backing!
It is humble but has some sweet fabric pieces.

Love that cheddar!

I'm doing some simple hand quilting.

Friday night we went to a local winery for my birthday. This view is killer! They had a local band that plays Beatles. It was a lot of fun.

Then the next morning I was up early and on the road to meet my daughter at a ...

Mahvelous Monday! from Humble Quilts

And here we are again on another Monday! I've got a little of this and that to share this morning.

An oldie but good in my possession! Not sure what I'll do with it yet.

And these! Sold on Etsy this weekend. I remember these prints well! I wonder if we will ever get these style of prints designed again  since the Civil War seems to be controversial these days.
Thank you to all who made purchases from my Etsy store! I appreciate you all very much!

Bohemia flour sack. My friend Laurie uses them for backing and ...
