Rise and Shine! from Humble Quilts

I love seeing this quilt in my house and try and use that mantra Rise and Shine. It has been getting harder and harder, getting to work, keeping a smile on my face.
I had planned a couple of months ago a girls backpacking trip  and since our recent pandemic threw a wrench in that I thought I'd take hubby someplace fairly nearby. We both have needed a mental respite from work and the news.

Well, uh, it is still a bit early for anyplace with fair elevation. But we forged ahead!
This was many parts of the trail ...

Humble Quilt Swap- Update from Humble Quilts

My little swap quilt was inspired by an antique. This was my start. My quilt is packaged and heading across the international timeline to its destination.  I've extended the mail date to May 9th. Please do your best to get your little quilt completed and in the mail by this date. Sooner is even better.

I've been getting antsy so made my way out for a  sunrise hike on Saturday.

Close by was another trail I've been wanting to hike and it was open. These rock formations are called palisades. (palisades mean  a line of bold cliffs ...

Wilderness Trail from Humble Quilts

Here is my finished friendship double 4 patch made with swapped blocks by Kevin and Kathy. It was quilted by Kathy.

This was taken inside after it was washed. I love what she did in the cheddar border!!
I LOVE how it turned out and it is a special friendship quilt.

I ran into some visitors out on a hike the other day.

I hope you had a terrific weekend. Love to you all!

Buhl Bushong Quilt from Humble Quilts

The lighting in my sewing room isn't very good but here are my blocks so far. There are 16 total, YAY! Half way! The corners also have applique but will not do those until I start assembling the these blocks.

Anniversary Quilt 2020 update:
How do you all feel about continuing this quilt? There are many  quiltalongs going on, which I encourage you to do while we cannot be together in real life. Because ours was going to be spread out it isn't really a communal sewalong.  Someone already told me they'd like to set theirs aside ...

Not Your Typical Monday Quilt Post from Humble Quilts

Working on some binding this weekend and got a pucker where I joined the 2 ends. I thought I could get away with it, in the end the seam ripper won and I'm much happier with it.
I've been getting out everyday to a local trail system that is usually very quiet- I rarely pass anyone and if I do, they won't be giving me the virus!

I think they are calling this the boneyard.

You can see Elsa up ahead of me on the trail. She loves it!

Now for some funnies I've seen lately ...

Monday! Monday! Bushong Quilt from Humble Quilts

I was able to get in my sewing room the day after National Quilting day. Here is month 9. The middle of the last appliqued border.
I'll start getting the center blocks pieced. 1 is pieced, 8 are ready to assemble.

I opted outside on Saturday.
Early enough to enjoy the sunrise.
and the three Sisters.

Made one more stop at a snowed over lake. It was a lot colder at that higher elevation than I had anticipated. Still so good to get some fresh air and clear perspective.

Let's make it a good week!

Short Social Distancing Post from Humble Quilts

I'm working, I'm keeping my distance. We've made a few policy changes at the business and will do curbside delivery.  Funny, how one day seems fairly busy and the next so slow. Everything seems to change day by day.

I really have not had a chance to sew. I've been trying to get fresh air when I can, playing with the dogs, trying to stay positive. It can be hard.

Elsa in the back

Porter in the front.
Look at the amazing blue skies! That is supposed to last through the weekend.
 Beautiful first day of ...

We have winners! from Humble Quilts

Saturday morning I was on my way to a trailhead and there was SNOW about 35 minutes from my house!! What the heck was all that about??!!  This adorable green schoolhouse was the perfect place for me to stop and take a photo. Thankfully there was no snow where we were backpacking,,,,
although we knew it was going to get a little chilly. It was a good time for me to test out my warm wear in preparation for hiking in Peru.

Yes, my smart wool baselayer kept me warm even though it got down to about 27 degrees. There ...

Fun on Friday! Giveaway! from Humble Quilts

It's been awhile since I've had a giveaway and I am ready to pass these two magazines (which seem like books!) along. I'll draw one name from the blog and one name from the facebook group. Feel free to comment both places for a better chance to win.

This is the Michigan issue, including Gwen Marston, before she passed away. I've never spent any time in Michigan but after reading this issue I'd like to go!

This is an older Australian magazine chock full of lovely projects.

And look what came in the mail yesterday ...

You Must Prove Yourself Brave, Truthful and Unselfish~The Blue Fairy from Humble Quilts

I've got a bit of a collection of Pinocchio, the first being an old wooden marionette of my moms.

Back in 1995 our library had a call for little wallhangings of  books to decorate the children's reading area. Of course I turned to my favorite character.
Our library is undergoing a bit of an update and they called me asking if I'd like my quilt back. Well, sure, why not?
Considering I took my first quilt class in 1993, I'm pretty impressed with my skills only 2 years into quilting!!
Good advice by the Blue Fairy ...

Buhl Bushong Update and Mardi Gras from Humble Quilts

It is so hard to get a good photo of the long border. I tried outside but it was too breezy.  The lower one is the newest finish.
I took this late last night so the color looks so weird. It really isn't pink!

There will be a bud in the corner of this block.

I'm in a local hiking group and we went out for a Fat Tuesday Mardi Gras hike!

Have a great weekend!

Thanks you for your sweet comments on the bird blocks. I'm having a blast making them!

Friendships on a Monday from Humble Quilts

Last Monday I asked if Michelle was interested in going to a quilt show and hiking in Washington. Life is good when friends say YES! LOL

So, quilts I'll show on Wednesday, today I'll share our outdoors.
I had a bit of time to kill in Portland waiting for Michelle to finish work, so went for a quick jaunt in Powell Butte Nature Park in Portland. I just LOVE the forest!!

Then we took off to Bremerton, WA.
The town itself is pretty old and so was one of the motels that had rooms available, We aren't ...

Hiking Catawba Falls from From My Carolina Home

Hiking in winter is wonderful when a warm day presents itself.  There are views when all the leaves are off the trees that just cannot be seen when it is summer.  This past week had one of those days, so we set off for Catawba Falls to hike.  It was a new place for us, as we have not been here before.  On the way to the trailhead, we spotted this barn quilt.  The little fox faces all pointing to the center were interesting.

Reaching the trailhead, we were a bit surprised to find this area was relatively new to ...

BasketWeave 2020 Quilt #2 from Humble Quilts

Binding and label is on and sewn!

It is such a busy quilt, Diane and I decided an allover pattern would work great.
Diane's quilting info HERE. Please consider her if you need to send out quilts for quilting.

Here's the backing I came up with.

The binding looks great with the cheddar!

A quick shot after washing.

Porter likes to come upstairs when I'm sewing but coming back down is a little harder with his age, He was barking at me to come up and help!!

More training hikes! This was a steep one- Gray Butte ...

Retreating 2... from Humble Quilts

We had a beautiful day and I needed a photo setting. Here's my Lincoln Museum Quilt by Barbara Brackman.
Blind Man's Fancy reproduced from an old quilt from New York.
They weren't interested in me as I was out taking a walk. They are annoying when they eat your flowers, but they are so cute!!
Old gnarly juniper tree.

Playoff games were on, so we had to show support. (I know Seahawks were out, but they are still "my" team)
Geese crossing. Looks how lovely this day was!
  Christy got a lot accomplished.

She was also working ...

Sunday Scenery, Part 2 from Allen Quilts

It was a busy day taking care of grandsons. I feel so blessed to have been able to take my retirement at my earliest eligibility from my job in criminal justice, and be able to be so involved in their lives while they are still so young. I never got to be a stay at… Continue reading Sunday Scenery, Part 2

Here we are In the Stichin' Post taking a little break from sewing for some retail therapy.
We had a fun space with great lighting at Eagle Crest Resort.

 Lovely indigo.
Service with a smile from Wendy!

Of course, we had to get exercise and fresh air!

Have an amazing week!

Sunday Scenery, Part 1 from Allen Quilts

Today, I thought I’d share some pictures I took while my mister and I were doing a little hiking on some family farm & ranch land I share with my brother and my cousin Dee. It belonged to our grandparents on Mom’s side. Someday soon I’ll try to write a longer post about it, but… Continue reading Sunday Scenery, Part 1

Countdown to 2020 from Humble Quilts

I'm always so sad to say goodbye to another Christmas season.
Here's a peak into my world the last few days.

Working on a little Buhl quilt. The quarters will have sashing so they don't need to be perfectly symmetrical! (the blog is called Humble Quilts for a reason!LOL)

And in the non- quilty front:

Danish aebleskiver for Christmas day brunch

They were on a  fancy platter with a dusting of powdered sugar, of course, no photo of the pretty ones.  They were yummy! We had mimosa's, coffee cake and fruit.

Then we went for ...
