Topsy Quilt by Sheila Christensen from Wendy's Quilts and More

I told you I got inspired at the Kapiti Quilt Show last week.  I saw Sheila Christensen's Topsy quilt on her stall, and I remembered that I had bought the pattern back in October at our own guild's exhibition.

I had promised that I would make new quilts for the bedrooms when we had them painted four years ago, so I decided "this is it".  And I started cutting all my blue fabrics to make a quilt for the room with a blue feature wall.

I'm making the Queen sized version of Sheila's Topsy pattern, and ...

Stash, Finishes, Bird Fair in Town from Canadian Needle Nana

I've been walking a lot to try to cure this sad head of mine. Fresh air and time passing is working its magic I would have to say. Witnessing the change in nature from winter to spring is also wonderful.

And sitting out on rocks and logs trying to let the fresh air and woody vistas sink into me. I had this little thing float down on my head during one of those times. I thought it was a leaf. Realizing it was a moth put a smile on my face. Where did it come from with the air ...

Quilting-Scrappy and Hexagons, Leaping Hares and What Do You Think??? from Canadian Needle Nana

It is remarkable how true this is.  Sections of our trails through the thicker wood and the chill just hangs in the air with a noticeable drop in temperature, while mere steps away the sun is beating down warming everything.
But overnight temperatures dipping well below zero are keeping our little pond a frozen expanse.
The wind has stopped...gosh that made walking so cold in spots.
Including the little wetland below to the left of it. This is a part of our walking trails that is now off limits as even though we have cleats on our boots, we ...

Yellow Dilemma from Gray Barn Designs

It’s Cindy reporting in today with a yellow dilemma. I’m getting ready to join my Grandmother’s Flower Garden Blocks and I have two yellow prints to choose from.

In keeping with my 30’s inspired blocks, both prints are designed by Darlene Zimmerman. The print below is called “Sunshine Garden” and it has triangles surrounded by tiny dots in a random pattern. It’s a gold/yellow print on a white background.

My next print is called “Southern Belles” and it has teeny, tiny x’s and o’s in structured rows and columns. It’s also ...

Progress on hand stitching projects from The Crafty Quilter

I don’t know about you guys, but I like to have a few hand stitching projects going at all times. It seems that during this pandemic, there’s been more time and opportunities to work on those kinds of projects. I think that means I’ve been watching too much television, but that’s what happens when you’re faced with staying at home.

Hand stitching projects

I just finished hand appliqueing my last hexagon flower block to a pieced background. These blocks will become a quilt soon, and I’m very excited about it! Aren’t they bright ...

Pumping Up The Volume from From the Strawberry Patch...

After getting the Star Flower quilt all quilted and the binding attached, I needed a bit more color saturation to brighten the day. I dug deep into my bin of 4.5" square scraps and after a quick pass through the die cutter I set to work on this scrappy hexagon quilt. It's vibrant and fun. I have half of it pieced as it's shown here on the design wall. It will measure 56" X 72" at completion,

Diamond Star from Applique 'n Patch Quilting

The last time this project was worked on was April 2011.  A long time ago!  It was probably pinned on the wall for me to think about the borders and what to do and then promptly shelved.

Fast forward to February 2021 and out came the bin.  It was time!  Up on the design wall it went.  What to do with borders?

When it was pinned onto the design wall last week, I could see there were a few areas on the outside sides that needed completion before working on borders.  So, rummaging through my scraps, fabric was found and ...

Star Flower Sew-Along from From the Strawberry Patch...

I took part in a Sew Along back in 2013. Yes, you read that right; it was here, on a Crafty Fox's blog. As you might surmise I didn't keep up the pace. I did find, when I unearthed box #5 (of 8) of my UFO's this week, that I did have all of the star flowers pieced. Why did I ever lose steam on this project? Well, maybe, it could be all those thousands of Y-seams! Anyway, there's no time like the
