Hearts and Veterans from Quilting Is More Fun Than Housework

A few finishes to share today...

Here is another heart quilt made from the low volume 9-patch blocks.  We didn't get a lot of these blocks so I have been limiting the finishing of these so each shipment gets one until they are all gone.  local quilter Terry quilted this one up.  And the lovely backing fabric was sent in by Jean.  I am going to be sad when these blocks are all used.

Maybe it will have to be a future Sew Day block.

I don't think I ever shared this lovely RWB scrappy quilt.  It has ...

Heart Throw COMPLETE from Wedding Dress Blue

This started off as a little bundle of three floral print fat quarters. I found some friends for them and, using my favorite Heart Block Pattern, started sewing.

The 6″ size made best use of the fabric I had available. When trimmed to 2-1/2″ the HST cut-offs became the border.

The backing matches beautifully and came from stash, where it had been for a long time. Don’t you just love it when fabric finds its purpose?!

I have another heart quilt in mind and hope to start it in the next few weeks. I need to get the ...

Vintage Valentine in Confetti Cotton Solids from A Little Bit Biased

I really meant to post about my original Vintage Valentine quilt before Valentine's Day!  Such a bummer that I totally spaced that!!!   Is anyone still working on heart quilts?  I'm about to start a winter/Christmas quilt...so maybe!?!

I designed this new pattern for a few reasons...

1.) I wanted a timeless (somewhat easy) heart pattern for myself and others.  I've designed a few heart quilts over the years and seem to always be chasing the "perfect" heart quilt pattern.  Mine are all so different, though, so I guess it just depends on what speaks to ...

Oh Scrap! : Hearts from Quilting Is More Fun Than Housework

 Happy Valentine's Day...

So, I am a day late - but I still wanted to share some heart quilts made from a previous block drive.

This is the sixth quilt we have finished from the Low Volume block drive.  Marcia, a board member, quilted this one up for us.  She quilted it with heart lockets and ribbons.  So Cute!  I am not sure who sent the backing fabric, but I love it on this quilt.  I think I projected that we would make 10-12 quilts from the blocks received.  We are over halfway finished!

Our friend Audrey went to the ...

Friday Finishes from Quilting Is More Fun Than Housework

It's Friday!  Time to share more finishes for Many hands and Many Hearts.

This lovely finish is made from some of the low volume blocks sent in last year.  We are slowly starting to assemble and quilt these heart quilts.  Pam assembled these blocks for us and I quilted it up.  I love the red fabric on the back.  Thanks for the donation, Elizabeth!

This quilt might look very familiar to you.  We shared one a few months back.  This is a second one sent in by Kristin.    She also sent in the fun carrot fabric on the back ...

More Weekly Finishes from Quilting Is More Fun Than Housework

Even though the temperatures are hot, we are already starting to plan for fall.  That means flannel quilts will start to be completed.

I really love this all flannel one.  Kristen sent in both the top and the backing.  In fact, I think I was able to use some of the batting she sent us on this quilt too.  I had a lot of fun quilting it - I loaded it on its side and quilted in some linear swirls and some squiggly lines.

Check out this big beauty.  Nann donated the quilt top and the pink backing came from Karen ...

Some Finishes to Love! from Quilting Is More Fun Than Housework

Happy Friday Everyone.  It was a busy week for us.  We had a Board Meeting mid-week, we are just cleaning up from one fundraiser and we have another one next week.
Whew! My head is swimming right now!

But check it out!  I finally finished one of the heart quilts using blocks from our last block drive.  We actually used this quilt in our booth recently.  It looked awesome hanging there in the sunshine.  On the back is a soft pink tiny heart print thanks to Kristin.  I think we have more yardage of these hearts so you will be ...

Cherish - Alternate Version from A Little Bit Biased

Hello, hello!  2 posts in 2 days!  What's up with me?!?
Well, you may remember I posted about my new Cherish quilt pattern back in February.

Well, I made another version of that pattern that I want to share with you!
Since I know applique is not for everyone, I wanted to make a version of this pattern that doesn't have the appliqued scalloped border.  When I was making the original and writing the pattern, I knew it could be cute either way.  I always want to encourage you to think "outside of the box" and make each ...

Cherish - A Gigi's Thimble Quilt Pattern from A Little Bit Biased

Hello friends!  Today I want to introduce to you my new quilt pattern, Cherish.
It's a scrap-friendly pattern that features lots of patchwork hearts and a scalloped border.
There are 3 size options included: lap, throw, and full.

This was my original fabric pull - all from my stash.

The pattern is perfect for using your stash, scraps, or precuts.
I love simple patchwork; these hearts are so fun to make.

I would describe the skill level for this pattern as advanced beginner/intermediate.
The hearts are rather simple and surprisingly, the appliqued border is too.

The scallop is a ...

Quilt Reveal: Crumpled Heart from High Road Quilter

I finished another journal quilt this week. It is a quick project made with leftover strips of fabric from my blog hop project I will be showing you on Thursday.

When I made the Raggedy Heart quilt last week, I knew it didn't come close to approximating the inspiration, which was the artwork of Marcellina Akpojotor. She takes strips of Ankara fabric and glues them onto canvas. I translated that work onto a quilt and I think this looks closer to her artwork. Only the black, white and pink fabric is Ankara in my work.

It is a great ...

Quilt Reveal: Raggedy Heart from High Road Quilter

It's time for another Project Quilting Reveal! This week, the challenge is to:

PQ 15.3 Inside Out

For this week’s project, I want to see what’s normally hidden!

Make a project with exposed seams or a raw-edge finish. Take on a bag pattern or other project that is constructed inside out and then literally “birthed” as part of the process. Or use this as a theme and demonstrate your unique inside-out perspective.

Rule One: Some part of your project must thematically or literally be inside out.

I had decided before the challenge was announced that I ...

February and Heart Quilts from Quilt Vine

Today is Groundhog Day, and February is the month of love and hearts.

Over the years I have been quilting I have made many little heart quilts.

When I had my Quilt Shop, I started designing patterns. I designed a bunch of little ones that I call Monthly Minis. I have one Monthly Mini for each month and I also have one Mini for each major holiday. I think the mini for February featuring the groundhog and a heart is one of my favorites. This pattern is named “February Phil” after Punxsutawney Phil. This little wall hanging finishes to 11 ...

The spring has been good to us. We got some very lovely quilts in that I know you are going to love. I wish I could show them all to you, but that would make for a very long post. We got in a number of modern quilts as well as a Dresden plate and a simple, but not simple, block quilt. You’ll understand what I mean in a minute. I think you’ll also see why April renters bring May admirers. Because I know I am an admirer!

Cross Your Heart Quilt from The Cutting Table Quilt Blog - A Blog for Quilters by Quilters

Spot a dove, and you’re destined for a happy, peaceful marriage. Spot a crossbill, and your future spouse is sure to be a grouch.

The Cross Your Heart quilt from Missouri Star Quilt Co.

A sparrow means you’ll marry a pauper, and a goldfinch signals wealth. And if an owl shows up? That’s it! You’ll be single for life!

All things considered, it may be wiser to stay inside and quilt! This week Jenny is using precut charms to stitch up a super-sweet Valentine heart quilt. These half-square triangle hearts are so simple ...

Coded Heart quilt, the pink one from Zarkadia Quilts

I have always been a fan of video games, and Super Mario was a part of my childhood. My inspiration for making this pattern was the Mario pixelated heart. I drafted the design, simplified it from a quilters’ point of view, and Tadah!!!
