Fat Quarter Flowers Quilt from Want It, Need It, Quilt It!

Today the Fat Quarter Shop is revealing their new fat quarter friendly pattern – Fat Quarter Flowers. Watch the video here. The piecing of this quilt is quite ingenious in the way it only uses half square triangles. Yes, no corner triangle piecing! Fabric : All Hallows Eve by Fig Tree & Co for Moda....

Let the Happy Dance Begin from Gray Barn Designs

I did it! I did it! I quilted my sugar skull mini quilt! We’re not talking perfect here, but we are discussing progress. I do believe that I have released many of my fears about the risky learning process of machine quilting.

IMG_5600[1]

IMG_5601[1]

I learned a lot about my machine and a little about thread choices through this process too. I also learned that I definitely need/want a sewing table that allows my machine to sit in a well. I also learned that I’m going to have to be a thread collector — I need more options for quilting ...

I Love Fall and a Pumpkin Quilt from Random Thoughts... do or "di"

It's no surprise that fall is my favorite season. I think this is true for most people. The milder temperatures and gorgeous color associated with the season are very comforting. But, fall eludes Southern Californians. By "milder temperatures" we mean it's not 100'F! We have to go north or east to really see fall color but we can pretend by surrounding ourselves with pumpkins, fall colors, seasonal foods like soup and stews and cozy quilts.

This pumpkin quilt pattern by Allison Harris is the perfect fall quilt. I purchased a fabric bundle kit from SewLux because I ...

Machine Quilting Makes Me Talk Like a Pirate (Maybe even a sailor) from Gray Barn Designs

Arrrgh, me hearties — I’ve been at it once again — I’m talking about machine quilting !!?#*&&!!!

My new (to me) Bernina Virtuoso 153 Quilter’s Edition, wonderful and steady as she blows, cannot (apparently) save me from my own mistakes.

I’m determined to machine quilt my pix-elated sugar skull wall hanging. So I decided to use my walking foot and quilt it on the diagonal — easy as begging for candy from neighbors, right?

Just before the real “fun” began.

As I began quilting, I was struggling with the pins and I was having trouble keeping the stitches even. Despite ...

Spider Web Quilt ~ Show and Tell from Life in the Scrapatch

This big beautiful web was made by Kat
inspired by my free

Kat wanted to make a bigger quilt so she started with 4.5" squares.

When it came time to cut the curves, Kat got really creative
and used a hula hoop for the first cut
and then used the scrap from that as a template for the next cuts.

What a great idea!

Here are Kat's helpful hints with making a larger web:

"A couple of things I learned:
1. When the quilt gets this big, if you cut your 45 degree wedges ...

Pix-elated Skull from Gray Barn Designs

I spent a fun weekend in Erie, Pa watching my roommate’s son-in-law run a marathon. SIL is a fast runner and the Erie race is a good one for qualifying for the Boston Marathon. The site of the race, Presque Isle state park, is lovely — I will definitely return to Erie for the beachfront, the shopping, the wine and the food.

Calm Lake Erie on the morning of the race. The weather was perfect for runners.

SIL qualified — in personal best fashion. As a former (much slower) marathoner, it was a thrill to see him cruise across the finish ...

Let's See If I Remember How to Blog from Stella Bella Quilts

Well hello there (especially to Dianne who reminded me that I need to blog and read my emails more often).   I guess it's been a over a year since I posted. Wow time goes by.  I've been Instagramming so if you've missed the cats, images around NM, more cats, and a few quilts you can find me over there (@stellabellaquilts).

We are all fine. Cats are happy, S. is happy, I am happy.  Santa Fe is marvelous. I just fell out of the blogging ritual and maybe turned a little inward.  There's too much to catch ...
