Yes, I have been working on various projects, sometimes simultaneously! So here is the update: Cut the charms for the Twilter charm swap. While I was at it, I decided to cut some 1 1/2 inch strips and store them … Continue reading

Green Tea and Sweet Beans

I have been busy working on the next lot of blocks for my Green Tea and Sweet Beans quilt.

These are the blocks I have so far.

Now it's time to prep some more.

I laid out my "Lucy Boston Blocks" yesterday.
I am trying to make a decision on the colour of fabric to use for the 1" square blocks that will join these together.  Any suggestions?  So far I keep going from Burgundy to a Coffee colour.

oh, and I went into my LQS today to pick up my copy of Vignette ...

WEEKEND REVIEW from That's Sew Kerry

Quilting in the Surrey Hills

Saturday was a great day, so hot and sunny, the birds were really chirpy, the flowers looked so lovely in the sunshine and best of all a whole 4 hours dedicated to quilting with some wonderful friends!!

Val started some gorgeous Log Cabin, Caroline was working on a bag project and Kerry Q is adding the finishing touches to a lovely sea creature themed baby quilt.

I however took the plunge and make a tentative start on the wonderful Green Tea and Sweet Beans by Jen Kingwell. As usual it took me the best part ...

ONE HAPPY GRANNY!! from That's Sew Kerry

FINISHED AT LAST....

Well after a few all-nighters and one small disaster I did in fact manage to meet my deadline of Wednesday and have the quilt finished for Granny's birthday. She was pleased as punch, although very biased and has paraded it around to all of her friends. I really enjoyed making it, I learnt many new techniques and also that I can actually function rather well with only 3 hours of sleep!

It was always my intention to do this as a 'quilt as you go', due to the intricacy of some of the blocks, I picked ...

Husband
It was been soooo wonderful to have my hubby back! For three months over the Christmas break he was away on the high seas on a Navy ship (he is a navy Chaplain). I won't pretend that it was easy, three months ...

modern? traditional? how do I become a better quilter? from Charm About You

source

There's so much gorgeous modern fabric and so many great quilt patterns but sometimes it feels like quilting is about things being fast and simple to make. Don't get me wrong, this isn't a sweeping statement about modern quilting, there is a lot of complicated piecing and amazing quilting going on too. Perhaps it is just that I am drawn to the modern quick makes (I don't have a lot of sewing time) or maybe because I still consider myself a beginner and so avoid difficult patterns because I don't think I would be ...

Saturdays Scraps from Alsha's Space

Welcome back for another week of scrappy goodies!

Haven't had the opportunity to do much sewing this week - have been hand sewing some Green Tea and Sweet Beans blocks, and doing s bit of work on my swap blocks with Australia Quilt Swap Blocks.  I've also  been busy with Doll Quilts, as they are due soon as well!

So one day through the week, I collected all the scrappy tops that I have ready to be backed and bound - I was surprised at just how many there are!

There are 5 small quilts hanging on this clothe hanger ...

New Amitie BOM from Cabbage Quilts

Putting it simply, I simply adore Jen Kingwell's (Amitie) talent for quilt and pattern making.

Jen's new Block of the Month quilt 'Bring Me Flowers' is yet another fine example of her gift for combining sometimes wacky but always wonderful fabrics to create delightful quilt blocks, sent out and received each month with great anticipation on my part!!!

Month two has arrived and is in progress! Such gorgeous fabrics including Liberty's, yum.

And in case you are wondering, I am still slowly working on Jen's Green Tea and Sweet Beans quilt. Another classic pattern that can ...

This past Sunday I joing the OCMQG for our monthly sew and was happy to make progress on a few projects!

Green Tea and Sweet Beans from New Nest Designs

Photo from Sewing Party
My New Year's sewing resolution is to make 2013 a year of learning. I consider myself an intermediate sewer at this point and I'd like to challenge myself to learn new things. I had never considered joining a block-of-the-month, never really saw one I liked, until I saw this at my LQS, Sewing Party. The pattern is Green Tea and Sweet Beans by Jen Kingwell and I was first drawn to it by the beautiful combination of low volume text and brights prints. Second, it has a lot of things that I don't ...
