the weather outside is frightful from Charm About You

but the quilting is so delightful! I've been working on the vintage quilt I was commissioned to hand quilt. It is huge and I've only worked on it from time to time since the summer (work commitments and kids tend to take over, the customer thankfully understands this!) but now I'm focusing all my attention on finishing it. I don't think it will be done by Christmas but at least I can have a good stab at it ;)

I did sneak in some more hand pieced green tea and sweet beans blocks this week as well ...

is it right? from Charm About You

I've been doing a lot of prep work for the classes I hope to be teaching next year and so I haven't done as much other sewing as I would like recently, though I suspect I would have to sew 24 hours a day to come close to being satisfied! I have no idea where November went to?!

I did manage to sew together my Propellar blocks for my Green Tea and Sweet Beans quilt. I chose to keep the one I cut wrong and I don't think it looks too odd:

I also finished the third ...

while away the hours from Charm About You

I am doing a lot of hand piecing, English Paper Piecing and hand quilting and am loving it more and more. I think I need to turn my machine on just to make sure it's ok but I'm content spending my evenings curled up with a needle and thread for now.

I've done more green tea and sweet beans blocks, here are my first two Garden Paths (just one more to do):

I did some epp and hand appliqué for a cushion I hope to be teaching and of course I'm going to hand quilt it ...

happiest with fabric and a needle in my hand from Charm About You

~~Make sure you enter my favourite notions giveaway! Open internationally, ends 15/11~~

I realise I've said it before (and I'm sure I am preaching to the converted) but quilting really is the best therapy. With my husband busy curating an exhibition, I have sat and sewed while watching tv*, trying to relax as best I can. I have to say I am very pleased with the results and these little patchwork flowers and blocks bring a smile to my face.

The flowers and leaves are destined to become a cushion that I hope to be teaching in ...

blocks and blocks from Charm About You

So despite all the blah feelings of late and the fact I've got lots of other things I should be doing, I have managed to make some progress on my hand pieced Green Tea and Sweet Beans quilt.

Here are my 2 Lozengers blocks:

Not sure why I jumped ahead to do those but I'm going to do the blocks in order as they appear in the pattern book because I think it will help me keep track of where I'm up to.

I've got lots more of these to do but here's my first ...

working and progressing from Charm About You

I'm feeling like a good girl today because I finished off Janet's Bee A Brit Stingy blocks and got them in the post:

Why is it I never spot those rogue threads before I actually take a picture??

I also had time for a play today and got on with preparing some more green tea and sweet beans blocks, even cutting into this gorgeous Cracking Codes print. I absolutely love the colours, the rectangles are really vibrant in real life and I love that simple pattern.

Tonight it's on with some hand quilting and serious chill time ...

WEEKEND REVIEW from That's Sew Kerry

Quilting in the Surrey Hills

Saturday was a great day, so hot and sunny, the birds were really chirpy, the flowers looked so lovely in the sunshine and best of all a whole 4 hours dedicated to quilting with some wonderful friends!!

Val started some gorgeous Log Cabin, Caroline was working on a bag project and Kerry Q is adding the finishing touches to a lovely sea creature themed baby quilt.

I however took the plunge and make a tentative start on the wonderful Green Tea and Sweet Beans by Jen Kingwell. As usual it took me the best part ...

WIP Wednesday from New Nest Designs

This past Sunday I joing the OCMQG for our monthly sew and was happy to make progress on a few projects!

First, as promised last week I did make some progress on my February blocks for the Green Tea and Sweet Beans BOM. These churn dash blocks came together fairly easily. I still need to tackle the orange peel blocks; I got some good advice from my guildmates on applique and I'm excited to try it for the first time.

I was excited to receieve my blocks back from our OCMQG 'A Particular Kind of Bee' and I spent ...

Green Tea and Sweet Beans from New Nest Designs

Photo from Sewing Party
My New Year's sewing resolution is to make 2013 a year of learning. I consider myself an intermediate sewer at this point and I'd like to challenge myself to learn new things. I had never considered joining a block-of-the-month, never really saw one I liked, until I saw this at my LQS, Sewing Party. The pattern is Green Tea and Sweet Beans by Jen Kingwell and I was first drawn to it by the beautiful combination of low volume text and brights prints. Second, it has a lot of things that I don't ...
