To Do Tuesday for 02/23/2021 from Life In Pieces

Hard to believe it's been a week and it's time for a new to do list.  With all the disruption to normal life my sense of time is a bit warped. After four days of working from home, it was getting hard to remember what day of the week it was.  I can't say there was more stitching time last week, but there was enough to check off most of my to do list.

Weekly To Do List for 02/16/2021

  • Grassy Creek: Assemble rows and pieced borders - progress
  • Morewood Mystery: Continue to assemble Block B ...

A Sneak Peek at Grassy Creek from TheEclecticAbuela

I'm still working on the Quiltville mystery, Grassy Creek. A few more days, and I should have the top completed.

Grassy Creek (in progress)

I'm ready to build the borders, so it is nearly finished.

Happy Quilting!

To Do Tuesday for 2/16/2021 from Life In Pieces

It snowed more yesterday and stayed really cold. Pretty much the same as the rest of the midwest. We've been lucky so far to avoid the rolling black outs that have affected large areas of Texas. Offices are closed again today, so it will be another virtual office day.  I suspect the rolling black outs have more to do with the office closure then the state of the roads.

Moving on to the the stitching stuff. It's time review last week's to do list and decide what's on this week's.  Chris of Chris Knits and ...

Snow Stitching from Life In Pieces

We spent our Valentines Day bundled up in sweaters with our thickest socks on watching it snow. It was a good day to just hang out in the sewing room.  Work is virtual today, so though I won't get any additional stitching time, at least I don't have to layer up and trudge through the cold.

I didn't get as much stitching time this weekend as usual.  I spent most of Saturday in Tulsa with the Scientist in Training.  We were supposed to have a girls weekend with my mother, but the forecasted snow pretty much nixed ...

To Do Tuesday for 2/9/2021 from Life In Pieces

The freezing drizzle stopped over night, but it's still very, very slick. Offices are closed again today, probably because the parking lots are pretty much ice skating rinks.  Even though offices are closed, I'm still expected to work from home virtually, so I'm still limited to stitching this evening after work.  I'm OK with that and just thankful I don't have to get out in the cold today.

The To Do List from last week included only three items. All three are in the block making stage, which for the Bonnie Hunter mystery projects can ...

More of the Same from Life In Pieces

The first text on my phone this morning is that offices are closed.  We've had light freezing rain since yesterday afternoon.  That just means I'm working from home today. But at least I can do that in jeans and won't have to brave the 20 F temperatures to walk across the parking lot.

There was a fair amount of stitching time this weekend, though it doesn't look like there was a lot of progress on Grassy Creek.

Grassy Greek, the 2020 Bonnie Hunter Mystery Quilt

The top  and bottom 2 rows are all sewn together.  All ...

February One Monthly Goal from Life In Pieces

It's been one of those weeks, absolutely nutty at work.  One of my coworkers described yesterday as "the most Mondayed Friday ever".  I was definitely ready for the weekend so I could catch my breath a bit. In contemplating what was on the agenda for the sewing room I realized that I hadn't yet decided on the One Monthly Goal for February.

That oversight should definitely be remedied.  As usual there are several options to choose from.  Red, White and Blue Stars is quilted, but it's in transit and not actually here.  Considering it took almost three ...

PHD in 2021: January Progress from Life In Pieces

The goal this year, like last year, is to work down the UFO list a bit.  Also like last year, I'm playing along with Quilting's Gail PHD in 2021 as one of my motivators.

My plan is to finish the UFOs while limiting new starts.  I've done really well on not starting anything new, but not so hot on finishing anything as yet.

But there has been really good progress on the four projects highlighted in blue in my tracking chart.

Red, White and Blue Stars

Red, White and Blue Stars (Picnic Stars) started the year as ...

To Do Tuesday For 2/2/2021 from Life In Pieces

Hard to believe that January is over and it's time to put together the first to do list for February.  The cold and windy weather has made the sewing room an attractive place to hang out the last couple of weeks. So the to do list for last week has a lot of check marks on it.

Weekly To Do List for 1/26/2021

  • Morewood Mystery: Finish making the A Blocks
  • Grassy Creek: Continue to make blocks and sashing
  • Unity: Make HSTS for Clue 6 as leader and ender

Last week's list was short, but that meant ...

More Making Mysteries from Life In Pieces

The weather continues to be cold, dreary and windy.  It's been really easy to just hang out in the sewing room when I'm not at work.  Consequently both design walls are currently covered with blocks.

Morewood Mystery by Cheryl of Meadow Mist Designs

All the Block A's for Morewoord Mystery are up on the small design wall.  That finishes off the January clue.  I really like the colors/fabrics in these blocks.  The February clue will be out on Thursday, so I'll be ready to make a start on it next weekend.

Grassy Creek is up ...

Weekly Update: making history (with mittens), pink and more pink, Grassy Creek!, and reading from With Strings Attached

It was beautiful at the beach when I snapped the photo but at 19 degrees I didn't linger!  The clouds have returned and there's snow in the forecast.

Years ago I read a time management book that likened the results of procrastination to an obstacle that gets bigger around as the procrastination continues - so big that it takes more effort to go around it than it would be to just go over it.  That's how I've been with a non-quilting project this week that involved report-writing and statistics-compiling. I have to check to see that all ...

To Do Tuesday for 01/26/2021 from Life In Pieces

The weather has been mostly dreary and cold the last week, which makes it easy to get into the sewing room. More time in the sewing room usually translates to a lot of check marks on the to do list.

Weekly To Do List for 01/19/2021
  • Red, White and Blue Stars: Package and mail
  • Grassy Creek: Continue to make blocks and sashing
  • Morewood Mystery: Continue making Block A
  • Unity: Make HSTs for clue 6 as leader and ender
Four for four is definitely a good week. Even better it's easy to see the progress when I look ...

Making Mysteries from Life In Pieces

It was cold and cloudy all weekend, perfect sewing room weather.  I took advantage of that and spent all of Saturday afternoon in the sewing room. Saturday morning I braved the biting cold (the wind made being outside absolutely miserable) and finished my January One Monthly Goal.

The Red, White and Blue Stars quilt is all cleaned up, pressed, boxed and is now on it's way to Trudy for quilting.  My January OMG was to get this project prepped and mailed. Hopefully that means my first finish for 2021 will happen in February.

Now that the RWB Stars is ...

To Do Tuesday for 1/19/2021 from Life In Pieces

It's been cold and windy in my part of the world.  Great stay in your sewing room weather. I'd prefer to do that, but I still have to work to support my fabric habit. Even with a few longer work days last week, the to do list didn't get neglected.

Weekly To Do List for 1/12/2021
  • Red, White & Blue Stars: Clean up and press quilt top
  • Grassy Creek: Continue to make subunits, blocks
  • Morewood Mystery: Continue making block A
  • Unity: Continue making HSTs for clue 6
Four for four, so definitely not a bad week ...

Weekly Update: a flimsy and three-quarters, more scraps, and two books from With Strings Attached

We revisited Pine Dunes Forest Preserve on Sunday afternoon.  A hiking stick with a carbide tip was a welcome accessory on the packed-snow (sort of melting) trail.

The framed four-patch batik project is now a flimsy.  In retrospect the borders (made from 2.5" squares) are a little heavy. I'm not sure whether I'll change them (smaller squares? piano keys?)...no rush.

Grassy Creek is three-quarters of a flimsy. All the blocks and the sashing are assembled.  To come:  a different sashing around the perimeter, an inner border, and an outer border.

I fussed around with color placement--specifically ...

The First Block from Life In Pieces

It was a quiet weekend.  The Scientist in Training was back for part of the weekend, but she heads back to school today.  She spent most of Sunday afternoon hanging out with me in the sewing room. She embroidered while I puttered around doing this and that. It will be awhile before we have the opportunity to do that again as classes start tomorrow.

Part of my puttering around was to finish de-threading the Red, White and Blue Stars quilt.

Not a huge amount of thread, RWB Stars is a lap sized quilt, so it's not that big.

The ...

To Do Tuesday for 01/12/2021 from Life In Pieces

What a difference a week can make. Back to work last week was really, really tiring. Consequently, spending time in the sewing room was more than I could do a couple of nights last week. The To Do List didn't suffer too badly thankfully.

Weekly To Do List for 01/05/2021

  • RWB Stars: Prep back and front for quilting - Progress
  • Grassy Creek:  Start Clue 7, continue to work on other clues
  • Morewood Mystery: Start on the January clue
  • Unity: Continue to work on clues 6 and 7

To Do Tuesday for Week of 01/05/2021 from Life In Pieces

The last week was really good on the stitching front.  There was lots of time to hang out in the sewing room and get things done. There was really good progress on last week's To Do List.

Weekly To Do List For 12/29/2020

  • Daisy Chain: Finish binding
  • Grassy Creek: Start clue 5 and 6, work on older clues
  • Unity: Continue to work on clues 6 and 7
  • Red, White and Blue Stars: Make Backing

It's a really good week that includes a quilt finish and finishing a backing for another.  A great end to 2020 and ...

PHD in 2021 from Life In Pieces

It's the last day of 2020.  The pandemic has made life challenging in so many areas, but the year has been good in that I've been home to sew more. That helped take a small bite out of the UFO list.  Playing along with Quilting Gail's PHD in 2020 challenge was also a good motivator.  Gail is again hosting a PHD in 2021 Challenge, as my UFO list still has 22 projects on it, I'm definitely playing along again.

I've selected 12 projects to focus on for 2021. My plan is finish at least 8 ...
