March goals from Espritpatch

March, really? Well, after over 2 months of all of us at home (working and schooling), we should finally get a minimal sense of normality again when the kids return to school on 8th. It will so good for everyone really. They will finally have proper lessons again and mix with their peers and their teachers. They desperately need the interactions and the education. As for us, we will have a breather during their school day and it should be much easier to concentrate on a task without interruptions. Not too mention that the amount of cooking I will need ...

February goals from Espritpatch

February is a short month and we have birthdays in the house so it would be prudent not to plan too much! Or maybe to have a varied list to see what takes my fancy?

Quilting:

1. Super Mario quilt - I think I still need 2 more blocks
2. Halo quilt sew along - I need to cut the arcs to be able to continue
3.
Boho Heart quilt-along - a brand new one quilt-along starting today!
4. Snowflake quilt-along - needs quilting
5. Modern HST triangles -  I have 23 blocks completed and not enough background fabric to make the 24th block ...

My Goal Planning on Off the Wall Friday from Creations - Quilts, Art, Whatever by Nina-Marie Sayre

So after writing last week's post on SMART goal setting, I had a good idea on how to go about it.  Now I just had to sit down and do it!!  hmmmmmmmm...okay....where to begin.  As most times in life lately, it began with a google search (of course it did!).  That brought way more information on goal setting and goal setting worksheets than one girl really needs!!  I settled on a worksheet layout that was created by Aimee, at the Crazy Craft Lady.  I liked how she broke up the time for the goals into a 90 ...

Setting Goals on Off the Wall Friday from Creations - Quilts, Art, Whatever by Nina-Marie Sayre

Is it just me, or did it feel like all of 2020 was spent just "waiting it out".  It kinda reminded me of my childhood in the 1970's on the Tug Hill Plateau in upstate New York. (And when I say Upstate NY, I don't mean 45 minutes north of New York City, but the truly Northern end of the state)  We would get these ridiculously huge snow storms where you were lucky to make it the mailbox more less to the grocery store.  You just spent the next few days, just waiting for the weather to break ...

Happy New Year! And, a Finally Finished! from A Prim and (not so) Proper Quilter

Yes, dear readers, today is only January 2, and I have a Finally Finished to reveal. And some thoughts about learning curves.

Happy New Year! I know I already said it, but it feels good to say it. 2020 is SO LAST YEAR as the kids say, and I think we are all grateful that it is.

Who knew a year ago that when I may have mentioned how awful 2019 was, that 2020 would be worse?

But more about 2020 in another post. I know it's been a while since my last post. There are many reasons for ...

Happy New Year!! from Appalachian Quilts

I'm not a "Resolution" person.  I am more of a goal setter.  Statistics show that most people who make resolutions actually break them before the end of January.  Disappointment sets in and that is it for the year.  I set goals for the year:  spiritual, career, homestead, relationship, financial, etc.  With my love of list-making, it is easy to keep track of what I want to do and what I have accomplished.  An old employer taught me about SMART goals:  Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Relevant, Time-Bound.  I have used this in my goal setting ever ...

2021 Goals from Goer

My tradition is to post my goals for the new year on December 31. Plans... Goals... Resolutions... I seem to be in good company with people who are feeling like planning is hard to do at the moment. I seriously considered a blank post here. Hats off to you much more ambitious folks.

Okay, here are some thoughts. They aren't grandiose. In many ways they are continuing status quo.

Life

  • Walk daily.
  • Read daily. (I read 33 books this year which was awesome!)
  • Watercolor and other creative pursuits multiple times a week.
  • Board games 5-7 days a week with ...

What a long, strange year it's been from The Academic Quilter

Hello everyone, and welcome to the end of 2020! I'm so happy to say that, aren't you? What a year. There's no reason to go through the litany of why I am so glad to see this miserable year come to a close, is there? I'm betting that many of you are feeling the same way. I was going to say "we made it!" but of course that isn't true for too many families. Instead, I'll just say that I'm grateful that my husband and I remained healthy this year, and my parents ...

December goals from Espritpatch

How can we nearing the end of this oh, so strange year! It seems like yesterday and like forever that our life was turned upside down by the pandemic. Yet here we are, planning for Christmas again, not the same Christmas as usual, not the same craziness and business as usual, but Christmas all the same. A time for family usually but this year will be different for sure. I need to finish the projects I am hoping to gift later this month but my machine fell ill yesterday so I am not sure how this will happen.

Goal Posts for November: The IntelliQuilter is Coming!! from Cheeky Cognoscenti

Good morning!  It's Election Day in the United States, but we've already voted early so there's nothing to do about that except wait and see what happens...  With civic duties already completed and no further power to affect the election outcome, I may as well shift my focus to what I CAN control: Quilting goals for the week and for the fresh, crisp month of November!

This Week's Goals:

Letter Home Monogram Baby Quilt Nearly Quilted

1. I'm still working on finishing up the last of my October goals, my Letter Home Monogram baby quilt ...

November goals from Espritpatch

Here we are again, a new month, which will be marked by another lockdown here in England, starting on Thursday. Only this time, the kids will continue to go to school. Hubby and I both work from home all the time so that would not change for us but of course, movements are reduced and activities too. A good time to get sewing I guess! Stay safe everyone...

Quilting:

1. Threadology quilt along - needs binding - this will be my One monthly goal

2. Super Mario quit - 5 more blocks
3. Halo quilt sew along - I need to cut the arcs ...

Fettle Those finishes from Espritpatch

Finish along is on a pause at the minute but thankfully we can still Fettle Those Finishes with Archie the Wonder Dog. So instead of posting the laundry list, like I usually do with my quaterly FAL list, I have tried to really focus on what I might be able to / need to / would really like to finish or even make between now and the end of the year. Some are intended as Christmas presents so it would be very good to cross those off the list! And of course, depending on what happens at Christmas, whether we are able ...

September goals from Espritpatch

Back to school, back to "some normality"? Who knows in the new uncertain and unpredictable world we live in at the moment.... I have the month free as I am not starting my new job until early October. I really hope I can dip into a few interesting sewing projects and not just some tidying/sorting out as well as the usual cooking and cleaning. The issue some times when there is some free time is that I feel my motivation or energy is completely lacking. Let's hope that won't be the case this month!

Quilting:
1. Dear ...

Smoking from Appalachian Quilts

Saturday morning I got up to do all the things - the things that give me joy.  I grabbed my coffee and my harvesting bowls and went out to the garden to see how I was going to spend my day.  It was overwhelming.  I worked at it for a while and finally had to call in reinforcements.  I haven't been feeling well for a few days (fever and angry stomach), so the heat and humidity got to me and I needed help.  Hubs came out and we started harvesting.

Starting at 12:00 there are cayenne peppers, purple beauty ...

OMG! I Met My Goals for August, Early! What Should I Do With Myself? from Cheeky Cognoscenti

Oh my gosh, you guys -- this is a rare surprise.  There are still 7 whole days left in the month of August, and I just realized that I have finished all of the quilting goals I'd set for this month.  Finished them EARLY.  I know, right?!  Who IS this imposter, and what has she done with the REAL Rebecca Grace?!

And it's not like I was wimpy with those goals, either.  Let's recap:

August Quilting Goals:

  1. ✅ Finish cutting out the next four blocks for MMBB & move them off the cutting table.
  2. ✅ Trim excess batting and backing from ...

August goals from Espritpatch

This month is a big month in some ways. I will finish my job with my current company at the end of August.
In pre-Covid life, back in January, we had planned to visit our friends in Canada. We had also planned a tour in campervan to visit the Quebec area and Toronto  but of course, this is not happening now. We are now hoping to be able to cross the Channel at some point and visit the family, whom we haven't seen since early January. Fingers crossed this is finally happening despite Covid.
With all this in mind ...

Set Your Business GPS! from Professional Quilter

biz-gps

Recently on my way to Maryland’s Eastern Shore, I got caught in a mass of slow traffic. Anyone from these parts knows we only have one way to reach the beach, and that’s using the Chesapeake Bay Bridge in Annapolis. Its two spans date to 1952 and 1973 and can’t handle today’s traffic. Slow-downs and waits are a normal occurrence, particularly during the summer, so I try to time my trip to avoid them. Despite my best efforts, I was stopped.

Because of the nature of the journey, my GPS isn’t of much use. It ...
