A stack o’ Christmas Ideas: Colour & Inspiration Tuesday from Clever Chameleon

Merry Christmas colour board at Clever Chameleon

Done, done and done! Lots of small finishes in this Round-Up of a Tuesday

I have been knocking off lots of little half-done sewing projects lately. A clearing of the queue, both physically and mentally.

Most of these finishes haven’t made it to the blog, although if you follow me on Instagram you may have seen some flash past you in your feed. So now it’s time to clear the decks. I get a stack of things of my chest, outta my head and into my journal-blog record. You get a post full of small projects that you ...

Making Packages Bright from From My Carolina Home

OK, raise your hand if you think wrapping gifts is a chore.  Yeah, I thought so!  Many view it as a necessary thing, not a creative thing, but I have a different view.  Each gift represents someone in my life that is still here, and with the loss of my parents, a special cousin, and some of my friends, it is felt keenly when I only have a few to do.  So, finding a way to be creative with wrapping shows my appreciation for family and friends still in my life.  First, I got out some plain bags I am ...

Ideas for Christmas Gifts from Pieced Brain

All photographs by Brent Kane and Adam Albright for Martingale. Used with permission.
Today I would like to show you some great ideas for Holiday projects. I am in love with this quilt by Corey Yoder called Merry Gingham. Its simple and charming design reminds me of warm kitchens, picnics, and holidays - all at once.

This modern and festive wall hanging was made by Barbara Groves and Mary Jacobson. The stars turned out fantastic with a scrappy, textured look but I can also envision them in shimmery colors against a dark background. Hmmm...

How about these Mini Stockings with super ...

La Conner Tote from Lily Patch Quilts

You know those charm packs that you keep hoarding? Well, it's time to break them out and use them. Today I am sharing my bag that I made using the La Conner Tote pattern from Jeri Brandvig. You can find the free tutorial on YouTube. The pattern calls for 4" squares, but I just didn't want to cut down all the charm squares plus I need a new beach bag.

I started out by laying out the charm squares and seeing if I need to change out the placement on some of them. When I was happy with ...

Christmas in July Blog Hop Day 1 from Lily Patch Quilts

Hello! Welcome to day one of the Christmas in July blog hop. This hop is all about Christmas. I hope you'll find amazing and fun inspirations to jumpstart ideas for your Christmas sewing and giving. A BIG thanks to Carol over at Just Let Me Quilt for hosting this fabulous hop!

I have been really busy so I pulled out a panel I bought years ago from Kate Spain to use and make some coasters and placemats. Let me just say that pre-made panels are not my thing. They may look even but when you start cutting them apart ...

shower gift from Ellyn's Place

What fun I'm having celebrating my best pal's daughter Megan this weekend, just weeks before her big wedding day! Today I was happy to finally give her the shower gift I made for her earlier this summer.
Four quilted placemats to match her aqua dishes and with a lesson learned from my friend Trae, I backed them all in Christmas fabric...
In fact Trae gave me that cute fabric! and I still have plenty left over for me.

Of course I wove Megan some pretty dish towels to match....
Waffle weave, 100% cotton yarn doubled in a 10 ...

First time long arm quilting! from A Ditchin' Time Quilts

This is Vladimir.  He is one of my 3 Siberian Forest cats.  He loves to get under the quilts I am working on while they are in my lap.  In this instance, I am binding it and he is hiding underneath.

This quilt is something I threw together in one evening with left over fabric from a much bigger project I am working on.  It's Amy Butler's Soul Mate fabric  but the pattern is her Lark Quilt on her website.

This ladder is very special to me!  It was my granddad's ladder.  He passed away about 3 ...

Small, Smaller, Smallest Blog Hop Day 4 from Lily Patch Quilts

Welcome to day 4 and the last day of the Small, Smaller, Smallest blog hop. Carol is hosting this fun hop for the participants to share smaller projects. Since it's the last day I had to squeeze in another small but quick project.

I have been meaning to make a bunch of cloth napkins for my family to use and do away with paper napkins, but there's always something going on and it kept getting lower and lower on my priority list. I sat down for half an hour and whipped these up. Its super quick and easy ...

Hope Chest Pillow from Lily Patch Quilts

I made a pillow to practice my free motion quilting and to use up some fabrics that have been in my stash for quite a long time. I love this Hope Chest block from A Quilting Life. I decided that a pillow is small enough for me to practice and I can complete the project in a short amount of time.

I decided on an orange peel design for my quilting pattern. I hope I've said the correct name for the quilting. I pieced together some large scraps of batting and sprayed the back of the quilt block to ...

Horse Lover's Gift from A Ditchin' Time Quilts

This is a Christmas gift I made for my friend Trish who loves her horse Lizzy.

Embroidery and a little machine applique allowed me to pull this together.

I used a painters cloth cotton canvas.  It was washed and thrown into the dryer.  I used it for the front and back of this pillow.  I love how soft this fabric ends up after it's washed.  I use this cloth to make my own cover for my ironing board so I always have some extra pre-washed and ready to go.  I also used this cloth for a table cloth on ...

handwoven trees tutorial from Ellyn's Place

Hello Friends! Sorry I disappeared for a bit. There are lots of factors.... secret sewing that I can't share just yet, general holiday business and ongoing health issues that I hope to resolve very soon. That said, I'm back! I wanted to share some fun ornaments I made to share with my friends this year.

They were fun and quick to make. I thought I'd share a little how to here.... I started out with scraps of my handwoven fabric that I had been saving for an "unknown project", a bit of interfacing,  some wool felt, a ...

Etsy Shop Restock Announcement from Tea Rose Home

Hello! This is a quick post for my Etsy shop restock announcement.

I can't believe it is already December! I was planning on restocking my shop earlier, but unexpectedly, the end of November got quite crazy and busy for me.
I worked pretty hard the last few days and finished 36 brand new tiny tin sewing rooms! (Yea!) Those of you who have been asking if I am going to make more, thank you for waiting so patiently.

I hope you will find one you like for you, or for a special someone; perhaps as a Christmas gift.

revisiting the dainty tote from Ellyn's Place

Some patterns are just so outstanding that I revisit them again and again. The Dainty Tote, a free tutorial by my friend Three Owls Handmade is one of those patterns. I've made at least a half dozen of these, for project bags for friends, tote swaps and now as a dolly diaper bag for the little girl I chose on our church's angel tree....
I used a mishmash of fabrics I had on hand, and I think this will be just perfect for her to carry dolly's goodies in.
One of my favorite features of this tote ...

Handmade Toys for Kids - Sewing Plushie from Art Gallery Fabrics-The Creative Blog

Hey There,

What was your favorite toy when you where little? For me it was a little pink and white stuffed penguin that rattled when you shock it.  My mom made it for me  and gave it to me the day I was born. I carried that penguin around EVERYWHERE...I couldn't sleep, eat, or function unless I new exactly where it was. Not sure how me and my pal the penguin parted ways but we were inseparable for quite a long time.

Stuffed animals or plushies are not only cute but are a great comforting gift to make ...
