The Adventures of Brownwyn E from Terificreations's Weblog

Brownwyn is off on one of her adventures, and is taking over the blog while traveling. She’s asked me not to reveal where she’s going at this moment, mentioning this is something of a surprise and she likes to surprise quilterly friends. When I brought her to the magical transportation outlet, also known as the… Continue reading The Adventures of Brownwyn E

Closing the door from Quilting with Kimberly

As of today, we have closed the door to a chapter in our lives and we’re looking forward to the future. Our time in Australia has come to an end, but we’ll look back with love for the kangaroos, fondness for brilliantly-colored sunsets, some challenges, and bittersweet memories mixed in.

Now it’s time to focus on the next chapter.

The home we purchased in Australia was settled and sold today to a wonderful gentleman who has promised he’ll care for the Roos as we did. In fact, just this afternoon he sent us this sweet photo ...

A rare and exciting opportunity! from Quilting with Kimberly

Hello, friends!

You may have already read or heard about the tour group I’ll be leading to Japan with Opulent Quilt Journeys this coming May. Our tour had been sold out, but due some very unfortunate health circumstances, we’ve had three spots open up just recently. This is a very rare and thoroughly exciting opportunity for YOU to join us!  You can bring your husband / sister / mother / friend / significant other, or if you want to join the group as a single, no problem! You’ll be made to feel more than welcome and we’ll personally take great ...

Looking back, looking forward from Quilting with Kimberly

The waning hours of 2022 are upon us. Less than 24 hours to go until a new year will be ushered in to greet us all.

Sweet Fuzzy Wuzzy, napping on the cool patio during very warm days.

Roo food, apples, and water were always on hand at Chez Einmo.

This year, perhaps more than most, I’m glad to see the end of 2022 and I’m looking forward with great expectation to everything 2023 will bring. Don’t misunderstand; there were some exciting things which happened in 2022. I think of friends we met along the way, the ...

Design Boards... from May Your Bobbin Always Be Full

I have been using design boards

aka flannel boards for years...

I decided to make some pretty ones

with a bound edge treatment...

They are basically a foam core board

covered with batting and

bound with binding.

I use them to lay out the pieces of a quilt block

to keep it in order while I am stitching it together.

I also use them to carry fabrics and binding

from the cutting table to the sewing table

to the ironing board.

You can prop the design board up

in a book stand or small easel to keep it vertical

while ...

New friends from Quilting with Kimberly

Pictured from left to right: Kathi Slee, QLD Sales Educator, Melissa Wilkes, Sales Educator, and Peter Kross.

During our recent trip to Bribane and Surfer’s Paradise in Queensland, we had the wonderful experience to meet some terrific new friends! Kent and I were invited by Peter Kross, Janome QLD State Manager, to visit the Janome headquarters in Brisbane and we were incredibly honored! We spent a few hours with Peter and his amazing team, and they were gracious and so very generous with their time (and some amazing Janome swag, that I plan to gift forward to some Janome-America ...

A holiday and more from Quilting with Kimberly

You may have noticed I haven’t been posting much on social media in the past couple of weeks, except for a few shared items (forwards) from other pages, and information about my latest DONE BEFORE DINNER PROJECT. (Be sure not to miss this one, we had lots of fun filming in the studio and this recycled grocery tote is cute and really useful!)

Some folks noticed my absence and I was tickled to receive notes and emails from those who told me they missed seeing the Roo videos. The truth is, Mr. Kim and I went on ...

Day by day from Quilting with Kimberly

Cheeto popping in to say hello!

It’s been awhile since my last post so I thought I’d take time to share some photos and provide an update. Let’s start with some new quilted wall art I made:

Last Christmas, Kent sent me four aboriginal-inspired fabric art panels he found here in town. At first I wasn’t sure how to use them but I quickly decided to hand embroider blocks of Australian animals I might meet on our travels using variegated floss. I used Solid-ish fabric strips to sash the blocks to the panels. I just love ...

Now for the new paint color:

The yellow is so cheerful in our kitchen !

The butcher block top gets a food-safe finish

of walnut oil

It takes two from Quilting with Kimberly

Sometimes we have to put our quilting or crafting on hold while we deal with a big life event or situation. Because we have been moving into a new-to-us home here in Australia — all while scheduling work to be done (electrical, painting, new cabinets, plumbing, etc.), I haven’t had the opportunity to sew anything quilting related in the past six weeks. For me, that’s a long stretch of time without fiber therapy!

Creating is better with a bestie.

However, I did have a wonderful “last creative fling” with a dear friend just before I flew to Australia in ...

Passing the Torch... from May Your Bobbin Always Be Full

Every Quilt has a story...

She carefully chose the flannel fabrics.

I asked her, "what do you want to do with these?"

She replied, "I want to sew all the pieces together

to make a quilt for my bed."

I cut the flannel fabrics into squares

and she pieced them together...

I told her if she finished the quilt top,

I would quilt and bind it for her...

Over a period of 2 weeks,

she stitched together seam after seam

until she thought it was big enough for her bed...

Then she went home

and I carried on with completing ...
