Multi-size blocks and block inserts........... from Exuberant Color

A friend and I were chatting yesterday about previous quilts I have made with multi-size blocks.  This Kaffe Collective one is from way back in 2013.  It is 2 layouts I tried and I sewed the one on the right.  I would like to do another Bear Paw quilt some day and maybe try a variation of the layout on the left.

In 2016 I experimented with different size batik triangles and made two quilt tops of my own original design.  There are 4 different size triangles in both of these.  I really enjoyed making them.

The batik one on ...

Rainy day sewing........ from Exuberant Color

I loaded this quilt on the longarm on Tuesday but I didn't change the needle until yesterday morning.  I quilted it shortly after lunch.  I didn't even have this one on my 'to quilt' list.  A friend pieced the top and left it with me along with her flannel scraps when she moved away. I had it tucked into the garment bag with other small projects and when I spied it I thought it would be a great 3rd finish for this month.

I pieced the batting using the 3 step zig zag to hold the butted edges ...

First finish of 2020............. from Exuberant Color

I loaded the backing on the longarm on January 1 but didn't get the batting and top loaded until yesterday.

It is now finished, 70.5" x 88".  It could be used on a twin/single bed.  I did a big loose meander again and used Hobbs 80/20 batting in it.

I was going to piece 5 different 1 yard pieces of flannel together for the back but in the end decided to use the wide flannel backing I bought on sale last month.

The backing is a lighter color than I wanted on this quilt but in ...

Going through patterns.......... from Exuberant Color

When I came across this pattern I had to open it and assess whether I would really ever make it.

Added 8 a.m.--this is not paper piecing.  Those are cutting lines and then regular piecing reassembles it.

I know I was drawn in by the colors, red, orange, gold and purple.  I have done some Buggy Barn patterns in the past and the stacks of fabrics were about 8 or more fabrics deep and were hard to cut.  This one has layers of just 4 fabrics and I doubt I would make it of flannel.  This would make ...

All together.......... from Exuberant Color

The sections are all sewn together now and tumbler edges trimmed.  It finished at 72" x 89" so it was too tall to put up on the design wall in this position for its photo.  I had to pin it back on sideways and then rotate the photo.
There is a large variety of flannels both yarn dyed wovens and prints, all from my scrap bin.

Another view.

In my indoor garden I have lots of blooms.  This one was a piece that broke off of a plant and I replanted it.  I thought it was from a red plant ...

One more section............ from Exuberant Color

All three sections are sewn so now I have to lay it on my 96" tables and figure out how much to trim off the tumbler sections.  The points are cropped off in this photo but they are still there.  I want to get it sewn so I can turn it the other way since it is laying on its side right now.

My pop-up shop closes Monday night at 10 pm EST so you still have time to visit it.

A little sewing......... from Exuberant Color

I got 4 of the 7 rows of rectangles sewn.  Two more rows are at the sewing machine and one is stacked and pinned to the wall.  I'll design the right side today.

I got a start on the packaging and preparing for mailing from my pop-up shop.  More of that to do today.

This is the cactus that had so many buds.  It only had one bloom last year and it is looking much better this year.  It is a soft red color.

I found another of the champagne color cactus at W*lm*rt and decided I ...

Flannel quilt start and pop-up shop........... from Exuberant Color

My 2 friends came over yesterday and I decided to start this flannel quilt made from a lot of scraps  that I cut into rectangles and tumblers last year.  I counted 99 rectangles so I had an idea of how big I could make this.  It will have another section of the rectangles at the right.  I ended up with 13 leftover tumblers but had to cut some more rectangles after I decided it needed to be a little larger.
I'm all ready to design the rest of the quilt.

My pop-up shop opens at noon EST today for ...
