You may have noticed that I was missing in action last weekend...no blog post! Christine and I were away for the weekend at Camp Kintail. The camp hosts two crafter's retreats every year and we try to attend both. We both made great progress on the projects we brought with us and the meals and accommodations were fabulous! The camp was decorated for Christmas, inside and out. The other retreaters were sewing, knitting, crocheting, doing paper crafts, making cards, making blankets, etc. It was fun to see what everyone was up to and to visit with friends, old ...
read moreFor many reasons, this has been a very busy week! Today was our church Christmas Bazaar so I was adding some quilting to some placemats every time I had a bit of time to sew this week. For this set, I quilted along the red stripes both vertically and horizontally, creating a grid.

read moreI have been working on some secret Christmas sewing all week. It is a hand stitching project and I just love how it is turning out! Unfortunately, I can't show any pictures until after December 25th.
This weekend, Christine and I are going on a retreat with the Oxford Quilter's Guild. I spent a couple of hours Wednesday evening gathering projects to take with me. I like to bring a variety of things with me so I have a choice. Of course, I have a couple of projects to work on by hand, including this cute sheep ornament ...
read moreI have not one but two finishes to share this week! I quilted the baby quilt that I made for the church bazaar this week using light yellow thread and my walking foot to create a rectangular grid. The backing is donated minke in light green which goes perfectly with the colours on the front of the quilt. The binding is made from the same Kaffe fabric that was used to make the spinning four patch blocks.

Over the past 10 months, I have been making 36 patch blocks in the colour of the month for the Rainbow Scrap Challenge. This past week, I quilted, bound and labelled my quilt--that's two quilts finished in two weeks! I'm on a roll! I used my walking foot to sew straight lines diagonally through all of the white squares with 28wt thread. The backing is a wide back called Sea Glass. It has lots of colours in it to match all of the squares on the front. There are no repeats of any of the coloured squares on ...
read moreI have had my lupine quilt back from the long arm quilter for a couple of months now. Finally, this past week, I had the time and energy to get the binding made and sewn on by machine. I don't usually measure my quilts before I cut the binding. I tend to just cut the number of strips that looks like the right amount--usually, I am pretty accurate doing it this way. This week was no exception and I had 7" of binding to spare when it was all on.
I belong to a sewing group at church--we get together every couple of weeks for a few hours to make items for our upcoming Christmas Bazaar. This past Tuesday, 5 of us met at the church to sew. P and I made two zippered pouches each. J and M made bunting for Christmas, Valentines and Halloween. K worked on another type of pouch. The bin with our new items for this year's bazaar is filling up. We also have some stock left over from the last bazaar in 2019. Here are the pouches that I made. The pattern is ...
read moreRegular readers of this blog will know that I have not been very productive in my sewing room recently. My husband and I are involved in a couple of large projects at the moment that are consuming all of our time and energy. The deadline to finish is looming, so after that, I hope to be able to spend some one on one time with my sewing machine and my knitting needles!
I did manage to finish off the Whistle Stop quilt flimsy this week--The edges of the centre section were all on the bias so I stay stitched 1 ...

I worked on my sheep rug hooking project earlier this week. The green grass is just about done now. Next, I will finish that last bit of green on the right side of the picture before working on the blue sky and the yellow sun.
The rainbow scrap challenge colour for August is orange so I pulled out my bin of orange selvages this week and made my selvage blocks. Each selvage strip is top stitched very close to the edge and the are foundation pieced to a square of very light weight non woven interfacing. Orange is one of my favourite colours.
