5 quilts April 28, 2023 from Making A Lather

last report April 17, 2023

I try to work on these 5 quilts until they are done. Their turn in the UFO closet is over, and, they need to be finished one way or another. I decided that for 2023, rather than work a little on each one at a time, I would concentrate on just one. I still use the list to plan and look ahead.

This group of 5 quilts has a lot of cutting involved. Which is not my favorite part, so, there has been a few distractions. One of them, is cleaning my sewing room ...

This set shows finishes that seemed to take forever to finish. The new ones look more interesting to me as a set. I will be able to jump back and forth when I ...

I had a polka dot fabric for the back and used a polka dot for the binding. I quilted an all over paisley.

This has been a frustrating round of 5 quilts. The quilts were easily finished, but, none of them, were inspiring to me. I am questioning the method. Yet, I know, I have finished ...

radiant star finish from Making A Lather

May I introduce a very patient quilt that, now, has a chance to shine. I started radiant star quilt in 2012 as a class at a local quilt store.

I wrote the first blog post in 2016, mentioning that it might get a chance for a finish. Nope. not then.

I added it to 5 quilts in January 2023 by random number generator. I am glad I did, I finally could trust that it would get the attention it deserved.

I opened the project box, and realized it wasn't perfect, but, still very nice. I imagine the imperfect center ...

We took a mini little vacation and, now, it is time to regroup and recheck my goals. I have a new finish and change on the list for February. I always look forward to adding something new from my ufo list.

sea swept finish from Making A Lather

Sea swept is finished and ready for our Spring guild quilt show. This was my January one monthly goal at elm street quilts. It is a beautiful quilt. I really like the colors, and, snails trail has been on my bucket list for years. All I needed to get started, was my sewing friend deciding she wanted to make one too. I started cutting in May 2021.

86 x 99

25 yards
I used a  wide flannel backing and free motion swirls on the longarm. I used leftover scraps for the binding.

This is all we had to make this ...

New Pillow :: A Finish from Alamosa Quilter

I turned a mistake into a new pillow.

New flannel star pillow

It measures 16" by 16" with an envelope back.

This star was originally made as the center for my Flannel Plaid Star Quilt. However, I seriously miscalculated and this star was way too small for the center of the quilt. I just threw into a bin and made a correct sized center star for the quilt. When I was cleaning my office recently I found this block and decided to turn it into a new pillow for my house. All that was required was a little simple quilting and making the envelope ...

Charity Finish and Tried a New Ruler from Alamosa Quilter

 I finished this quilt recently.

charity quilt finish

I used some scraps of older Kim Diehl fabrics and the Cats Cradle ruler from Creative Grids.

Cats cradle ruler
I tried several different layouts of the blocks and blank squares. I went with this one because I had enough fabric. Other layouts would have required me to dip deeper into my stash or buy more fabric. The only thing I had to use from my stash for this one was the inner border fabric and binding. The binding was actually leftovers from my binding bin. They are several different black fabrics but it is hard to tell ...

Charity Finish from Alamosa Quilter

I did a big clean out of my office at my shop last week. I threw out a bunch of junk and found a few treasures.

I found a one yard piece of convenience fabric (cheater cloth). I also found a scrap of batting that was the perfect size, left over backing fabric from a shop sample that was the perfect size and leftover binding fabric from my binding leftovers stash at home. So this project cost me nothing!

Mystery quilt finish from Making A Lather

This quiltville mystery quilt has had it's share of mystery. I lost the blocks for Rhododendron mystery quilt after they were all made. Luckily, with a little sleuthing, they were found, and I decided to add this quilt to my 5 quilts goals. In November, the top was ready for borders, but, the corner pieces were missing. It was ready for quilting by Thanksgiving. I made this my December one monthly goal. If I wanted to make the new mystery - Chilhowie, I needed to finish this one.

A Big Finish - Aidan's Quilt from Sew........This Is My Blog

A month ago Aidan's quilt was a top, and now it's a finish.  A big finish!  81" by 98" to be exact.  It should work okay for a few more years until he's done growing.

It was "fun" (you know what I mean!) man-handling that thing to machine stitch the binding on .....

.....and it was very warm hand-stitching it down. (The weather is not cold enough yet for that!)  I didn't even ask Hubby to hold it up for me to take pics because it's so big.  I just threw it onto the ground and ...

frolic finish from Making A Lather

I have finished my one monthly goal for November. I finished frolic quiltville mystery quilt from 2019. I kept current on the clues until it was time to assemble the blocks. That seems to be my undoing. I take longer to do that, I guess. I really like the colors and pattern of the blocks. This will be my 19th finished quiltville mystery quilt. I have a page here that shows them from the first to the last that I have done. I still have rhododendron to quilt and grassy creek to add borders.

I used a flannel back and ...

An Early Finish - Safari Babies from Sew........This Is My Blog

I may have planned too easy a goal for November.  The Safari Babies quilt is already done!  I quilted it with a simple meander on my domestic machine and put on a bright binding for a fun finish.

Such cute safari babies!

I've already found some line drawings for another quilt like this one.  This time - underwater babies!
