Fiber Tuesday 145 from The Quilting Room with Mel

Welcome back to Fiber Tuesday!  How was everyone's week? Remember last week when I said I needed to get caught up on a week's worth of work?  Yeah, well now I'm two weeks behind.  I felt fine but lacked energy after fighting the bug off.  I honestly don't remember the last time that a bug took so much out of me.

Welcome back to Fiber Tuesday!  How was everyone's week? Well, the flu bug finally found The Quilting Room.  It hit me Wednesday at work and today is the first day I have been out of bed and moving around.  Now, to get caught up on almost a week's worth of work.

Sapphire (Ruby) Stars is Finished from TheEclecticAbuela

Last year, Kevin the Quilter hosted a mystery quilt project. He called it Sapphire Stars, and it was fun to participate with others in creating a quilt.

His quilt featured blue, but I went with my favorite color--RED! I don't think I ever really understood the concept of light red, so my quilt doesn't sparkle like Kevin's, but I like it. Please pardon the bad pictures--I was battling both the flu and the wind!

Many thanks to Kevin for the great project.

Welcome back to Fiber Tuesday!  How was everyone's week? We have clean water again.  The week without has certainly humbled me to the fact that not everyone has clean water and boiling water and bleaching dishes are just part of their regular days.  I attempted to design something out of the box this weekend and I'm thinking I have more gray hair and Paul was thankful for coffee to help him keep his mouth shut.

Fiber Tuesday 142 from The Quilting Room with Mel

Welcome back to Fiber Tuesday!  How was everyone's week?  This last week has been pretty rough.  I am looking forward to heading to the basement tonight to spend some quality time with my machines and a whole lot of fabric that I got over the weekend from friends.  It's great having friends who do costuming for a living and they save their scraps for us.  I have so many ideas to put them to good use.

Fiber Tuesday 141 from The Quilting Room with Mel

Welcome back to Fiber Tuesday!  How was everyone's week?  We spent a lot of quality time together this last week.  It was too cold to leave the house for a couple of days last week. The weather broke at just the right time before cabin fever completely set in.  We did get a lot of stuff done so that's always nice.

Fiber Tuesday 140 from The Quilting Room with Mel

Welcome back to Fiber Tuesday!  How was everyone's week?  We are freezing here!  The windchill in the morning is supposed to be around -20.  I am thankful that I don't have to get out in it but I know others will have no choice.  On cold days I spend a lot of time with my sewing machine and hot tea or coffee.  I have to go out to the garage to get to the basement so I need the warm drink to help me recover from those 30 seconds.  I know, I am a wuss when it comes ...

Welcome back to Fiber Tuesday!  How was everyone's week?  We have started a new year so I am sure you all have been getting back into your studio spaces creating up a storm.  I hope that the time off has renewed everyone's creative juices.  I know it has done me a world of good and I am ready to create all year and hopefully inspire all of you.

Fiber Tuesday 138 from The Quilting Room with Mel

Welcome back to Fiber Tuesday!  How was everyone's week?  I am feeling so behind.  I work this week and one day next week, then I become an elf.  I've been running around so much lately attempting to put out small fires that Christmas got shoved to the back burner.  Now Christmas is around the corner and I am so far behind it isn't even funny.

On Ringo Lake--Part 3 from TheEclecticAbuela

The mystery clue this week called for several karats of Diamond in a Rectangle units.

These are not sewn to one another--just lined up to show the mirror image units.

They weren't hard to make, at least until I needed to make the second half of the units mirror images of the first--Yikes! My mind rebelled for a bit, but I got one made and used it for a visual example. Spatial imagination is not my strong point. However, I did get them done--Yay me!

I'm loving this mystery and looking forward to next week's clue. I ...

On Ringo Lake--Part 2 from TheEclecticAbuela

This week the clue was to make a gaggle of geese!

Here are a few of mine:

Like real geese, they assumed the wedge formation.

My neutrals are a bit plain, but I found a bag of leftover bits and pieces leftover from other projects, and I wanted to use them up.

Clue 3 will be revealed on Friday, 08 December 2017. I'm looking forward to it!

I'm linking with Mystery Monday Sunday at Quiltville and Fiber Tuesday 137 at The Quilting Room with Mel.

Welcome back to Fiber Tuesday!  How was everyone's week?  My day started nice a warm, we hit 70 early today but the cold is starting to arrive.  I'm so happy that it is cooling off.  I just can't get into the Christmas spirit without cold.  I don't know how you warm weather folks do it.  Though once December 26 hits I want my warm back.

Welcome back to Fiber Tuesday!  How was everyone's week?  I hope everyone survived the holiday, Black Friday, Small Business Saturday, and Cyber Monday.  We finished the last of the turkey tonight for dinner so leftovers are done!  I'm not sure I can stomach any more turkey for awhile.

On Ringo Lake--Part 1 from TheEclecticAbuela

I am participating in Bonnie Hunter's annual Quiltville mystery again this year. The quilt is called On Ringo Lake in honor of a trip Bonnie took to Minnesota this year.

The suggested colors are chocolate brown, aqua, coral, and neutral. I'm switching the aqua for green since I'm not a big fan of blue.

Here are some of the fabrics I will be using. (I didn't photograph the neutrals.) I'm likely to find more fabrics to throw in as I go along.

The first clue had us making 9-patches.

Just a sampling--there are many more ...

Welcome back to Fiber Tuesday!  How was everyone's week?  I am running behind tonight.  My internet has been funky since Friday and I just got it back.  It's not completely right but it's on and that means I don't have to drive somewhere to get enough cell service to post this thankfully.

Welcome back to Fiber Tuesday!  How was everyone's week?  Well, my mini quilt didn't win.  It did, however, get chosen to go to Quilt Market in Houston.  I can't lie I'm a little disappointed that I didn't win but am thrilled that it is on display at one of the biggest quilting shows in America.

Welcome back to Fiber Tuesday!  How was everyone's week?  Is everyone in the holiday sewing madness?  I am working on some great last minute projects because I know we will all forget a party or someone on our list that we need a handmade gift for.  Plus, I haven't done Christmas decor for awhile so as soon as I find my tree I will share those things.

Kaffe Fassett and QSTs from TheEclecticAbuela

I combined large blocks of Kaffe Fassett fabrics with very subtle Quarter Square Triangles (QSTs) in this quilt for my stepdaughter. I didn't have a pattern for this one--I just made alternate blocks that I thought would be complementary to the prints.

The KF fabrics reminded me of vintage sheet prints.

Since the prints are quite bold, I toned them down a bit by using QSTs as alternate blocks.

The color difference is very subtle (almost too subtle, I think), but the QSTs are white and creme.

I used a small print for the backing and a purple blender ...

Birds and Fruit from TheEclecticAbuela

I wanted to make a quilt for a friend, and I decided to use some panels I bought quite a long time ago with her in mind.

I rarely use panels, so I worked up a quick layout by measuring them and constructing alternate blocks in the same size.

The dark rectangles represent the panels.

The construction was easy, and soon I had a top.

Top before quilting

Luckily, I bought some fabric to match the panels when I originally got them--it was perfect for the centers of the alternate blocks, the backing, and the binding.

Backing and binding detail ...

Welcome back to Fiber Tuesday!  How was everyone's week?  I am waiting to find out how my mini quilt does in the contest.  If I win I should be contacted at some point on Tuesday.  I'm pretty nervous.  It's the first quilt I've entered to be judged since I was in 4-H and that feels like 100 years ago.
