Fiber Tuesday 120 from The Quilting Room with Mel

Welcome back to Fiber Tuesday!  How was everyone's week? I took some time off this weekend.  I was getting a little overwhelmed and had forgotten all about my self care.  You would think after writing that post I would be doing better.  It was great to wake up this morning ready to help quilters and vintage sewing machine fans.

Fiber Tuesday 119 from The Quilting Room with Mel

Welcome back to Fiber Tuesday!  How was everyone's week? Nothing to exciting has been going on here.  Just a lot of time with our machines working on things for the blog.  Paul did get a new work bench for the basement.  We found a huge desk at a local second hand store for $5.  It was to big to fit in the car so he borrowed his dad's truck and trailer to bring it home.  I was shocked when he got it home and realized it was solid wood not press board or MDF.  It will be a ...

Fiber Tuesday 118 from The Quilting Room with Mel

Welcome back to Fiber Tuesday!  How was everyone's week?  I hope everyone had a great holiday weekend last week.  Fiber Tuesday had the week off because we really didn't think many people would be around.  So I can't wait to see what you all have been working on these last two weeks.  I'm sure you've been working your fingers to the bones.

Little Camper from TheEclecticAbuela

My nephew and his wife are expecting a baby boy this summer, so, of course, I had to make a quilt.

Flannel Little Camper Quilt

The pattern is Tiny Turning Twenty by Tricia Cribbs. The fabrics are so cute that I had to take several close-ups.

This block teaches a lesson: Never leave your food container on the ground--it attracts bears!

I'm looking forward to meeting this young man when he arrives!

Welcome back to Fiber Tuesday!  How was everyone's week?  The basement is being used!  I've filmed several videos already, done some photography, and have planned several more projects.  It's really a blessing to have it even if the process of packing, unpacking, and sorting isn't my favorite thing in the world.  I can already see the fruits of our labor paying off.

Stringing Beads--An Original Design from TheEclecticAbuela

I love making string quilts. When I came up with this design, I decided to combine it with the April Multicolor Rainbow Scrap Challenge from soscrappy.

You can find previous posts about this quilt HERE (Part 1) and HERE (Part 2).

Without further ado, here is Stringing Beads:

I have no idea why the color went wonky in the last photo!

This is the most densely quilted piece I have ever made, but I like the effect. I am glad to have this one ...

Welcome back to Fiber Tuesday!  How was everyone's week?  I am moving into the new work space.  Hopefully, I will have a reveal of sorts on Wednesday.  There's one little spot not done but it's going to be awhile and I want to get pictures while it's still clean and organized.  It's got so much storage and little things built in to make my life so much easier.  I can't wait to share it with all of you.

Another Donation Quilt from TheEclecticAbuela

Earlier this year, I made a bunch (around 150) of scrappy pinwheels to use in donation quilts. I have finished three quilts--the final top is done, but not quilted--and I have only one pinwheel left! :)

I chose to do these quilts with different layouts; on this third one I set the pinwheel with alternate half-square triangle blocks.

Must have caught a breeze--the bottom really is straight!

These are the first two quilts:

Orange and on-point

Straight layout with sashing and cornerstones

The final quilt is a simple pinwheel to pinwheel layout--I'll post a picture ...

Welcome back to Fiber Tuesday!  How was everyone's week?  We are almost done with the basement!!  I'm so excited, there's a little bit of trim work to do but I should be moving in when you read this.  I've spent the day packing tubs for Paul to carry down the stairs and then I'll unpack.  The big thing now is figuring out what I want upstairs and what I want downstairs.  Plus, I have to figure out what sewing machine I want down there.

Fiber Tuesday 114 from The Quilting Room with Mel

Welcome back to Fiber Tuesday!  How was everyone's week?  We made a lot of progress this week on the new work area.  I have one door left to paint and a corner cabinet.  It's being a pain so I am holding off on painting until we get it figured out.  Other than that just plugging away so I can start producing videos and such for the blog.

Fiber Tuesday 113 from The Quilting Room with Mel

Welcome back to Fiber Tuesday!  How was everyone's week? I hope everyone had a good Memorial Day and spent time with family and friends remembering those who we have lost.  We spent the majority of the weekend in the basement.  We have walls with sheet rock and they have been taped and mudded.  The cabinets are installed and have been treated so I can paint them.  I have the bottom set primed and the doors for the upper set painted.  I am tired. lol  I have spent many a Tuesday night with the live tweet crew tweeting about Fixer ...

Retirement Gift and Donation Quilts from TheEclecticAbuela

I've been a bit lazy about taking pictures, so I went out between rain showers this morning to do it. They aren't as lumpy as they look--the fence I hung them on is overgrown with vines!

The first is a D9P(Disappearing Nine-Patch)--a retirement gift for a friend. Her favorite color is brown. I pieced the back with extra blocks--I always have extras!

These two pinwheel quilts will be for donation. Though yellow and orange aren't my favorite colors--they are favorites for others.

Fiber Tuesday 112 from The Quilting Room with Mel

Welcome back to Fiber Tuesday!  How was everyone's week? Over the weekend we got back to work on the basement studio.  It had been put off for awhile because of other work that needed to be done down there.  We got the base cabinets and counter top installed, figured out where the wall goes, figured out the layout for the upper cabinets, and came up with some great storage ideas that also solve a few issues.  The cabinets are out of someone's kitchen and we are installing them in a basement that has settled over the years.  So ...

Fiber Tuesday 111 from The Quilting Room with Mel

Welcome back to Fiber Tuesday!  How was everyone's week? Tuesday is the last day of school here and I swear this year has been busier than most.  I don't have big plans for the summer just some ball games to see the kids play.  One of the area pools is doing water aerobics and I may try to talk Paul into doing it with me.  I do have big plans for the blog this summer.  I've been working with some companies so you will be seeing those projects over the course of the coming months.

Welcome back to Fiber Tuesday!  How was everyone's week? The end of the school year is upon us!!  Well, at least for me.  I'm looking forward to being able to dedicate more time to the blog, creating, and exploring what the quilting world has in store for me.  I will have a giveaway starting Wednesday morning so be sure to come back for that.

Fiber Tuesday 109 from The Quilting Room with Mel

Welcome back to Fiber Tuesday!  How was everyone's week? May is here and I wish someone would turn the furnace on outside and shut the sprinkler system.  It has been wet and cold for so many days I wasn't sure what the bright yellow thing was in the sky.  I made it through the rain pretty well, just a little water in the basement we were able to keep up with but those down stream from me didn't fair as well.  I've seen many who have lost things they had stored in their basements and some ...

Rainbow Scrap Challenge--April--Multicolor--Part 2 from TheEclecticAbuela

I'm putting together the multicolor blocks. You can read about them HERE.

There are lots of places to match, but I am making progress. I'm calling this one "Stringing Beads." It reminds me of the beaded curtains that people hang in doorways.

Beaded Doorway Curtain

I'll finish assembling the center of the top, then wait until it tells me what type of borders it needs.

I'm linking to Scrap Happy Saturday at soscrappy, Fiber Tuesday 108 at The Quilting Room with Mel, and Jo's Country Junction UFO Challenge.

Rainbow Scrap Challenge--April--Multicolor from TheEclecticAbuela

April's rainbow scrap challenge is to use  multicolored scraps.

Because I've been sticking to one color during previous months, and I am planning to use the blocks in a rainbow-type quilt, I decided to do the multicolor blocks for a separate project.

I'd been designing a block in my head, so I tried it out.  I plotted it on EQ7 and then started sewing. While there are lots of multicolor strings in the blocks, I used a constant dark red for the centers, and I added some strings in solids and blenders to tame the confusion!

I ...

Welcome back to Fiber Tuesday!  How was everyone's week? I finally broke down and passed a project on to Paul.  It had exceeded me and if I didn't let him have a go at it it was going to be a UFO.  Passing it on pointed out a few design choices I had made which had made it harder to do.  We've adjusted those and with the progress he is making he'll be done in no time.  I've been on it for months and just couldn't get it.  I guess I may be a ...

Fiber Tuesday 107 from The Quilting Room with Mel

Welcome back to Fiber Tuesday!  How was everyone's week? I hope everyone had a great Easter weekend.  We got to see the grand kids Saturday and Sunday.  The littlest one is walking now and is always on the move.  He has fallen in love with our boxer and she was so good to allow him to chase her around the house.  She slept very well when they all left.  I'm not sure I've recovered as easily as the dog did.  I spent most of today relaxing trying to recover.
