Wedding Dress Made into Two Quilts for Bridget's Daughters from Mary Manson Quilts

First quilts of 2020!  Bridget wanted her wedding dress made into two identical quilts for her daughters. Her dress had a very full skirt and a train, so there was plenty of fabric.

Bridget 1
The outer border was quilted in a feather design. The lace that went around the bottom of her skirt was put into the inner border with a spiral quilting design in the open areas.

Bridget 2
The center was a diamond feather design, with a free form feather wreath in the center.

Swirly Whirly from Quilting and More...

And … it’s done! I had originally envisioned doing swirling feathers in all of the colored areas, but that was an impossible task. The bulk created by all of those tiny seams just meant that my free motion foot kept getting hung up; it’s rather difficult to do smooth curves and even stitches when the […]

Making a journal cover with practice piece from Quilting & Learning

Don't you love practicing on something and then being able to use that practice piece to make a finished, usable project? That's what happened to my practice piece from last week's Free Motion Mavericks.

FMQ my practice piece

My piece went from this very bright poinsettia fabric to these "cat's eye" shapes with different types of feathers within and outside of the shapes.

FMQ using the leaves as templates
The pink bobbin thread produced this flower.

Finally, adding FMQ filler between the flowers, in white thread, resulted in this!

Adding swirls, paisleys and
echoes between the ...

Sawtooth Star Quilt: Colour and Inspiration Tuesday from Clever Chameleon

Sawtooth Star quilt colour board

Preparing for a big 2020

I’m starting to sort and pack up my things ready to move house after Christmas….. all my batiks are already in boxes, so you can tell where my priorities lie…..

Clothes? Nope. Kitchenware? Nope. Laundry consumables…… does the iron count?! hahahaha nope, because it’s only used for quilting…. Schooling supplies and toys? Some. Batiks and favourite books? …. Ready to go!

Biased priorities aside, in starting to sort my sewing space I have had to have a good hard look at my quilting UFOs. Many are moving house with me, and will form the ...

A tip from Quilting and More...

I don’t know about you, but sometimes I absolutely agonize over which quilting designs I’m going to use on a quilt. In the past, I’ve begun a motif, only to decide that it simply doesn’t work on that particular area, and then I’ve had to pick it all out. Ugh. However, I took a class […]

Blue Dot, Blue Dot, Where Are You? - Denniele's Quilt from Sue Daurio's Quilting Adventures

I posted a block of this one, but now I"ve gotten permission to post the full quilt and all it's wonderful blooms.  Denniele Bohannan from Louanna Mary Quilt Design made this incredible Blue Dot, Blue Dot Where are you,  quilt designed by Barbara Brackman who has a free BOM - Hospital Sketches  which you can find on facebook.  This one is super sweet.  Two layers of batting, Hobbs 80/20 and Hobbs Wool, I used a 60 wt Glide thread that just blended wonderfully with everything.  Yep only one color of thread on this beauty. And Denniele won a ...

Wedding Dress Quilt for Debi from Mary Manson Quilts

Debi wanted me to make a wedding dress quilt from her dress. Her daughter is getting married, and she wanted to give it to her at her wedding shower.

The gown was champagne lace over satin, with a lace ruffle at the bottom of the skirt. I used the satin for the quilt, with lace from her dress in the center design, and the lace ruffle around the outer border.  SI used a feather design for the quilting.

Customer Quilting from The Nifty Stitcher

Hello there

Its been a while since I last posted, Christmas has been and gone and I hope you all had a lovely time.
I was very busy with customer quilts in the run up to December.

I loved this colourful quilt made by Frances who requested an allover design.

This one was also made by Frances and gave me free reign to do as I wished.

I kept it simple with some feathers in the center blocks.

This next one was a full custom job and this is all I can show you out of respect for the customers ...
