Night Sky is fat quarter friendly and would be a great stash busting quilt.  Choose five different colors, and then choose a light, medium, and dark hue in each color.  Add in a bold color for the stars, a neutral background, and you're good to go.

Introducing Tic-Tac-Toe on the Cover of Fat Quarter Favorites from Christa Quilts

I love it when I get to reveal a quilt that I worked on many moons ago! Meet Tic-Tac-Toe, a fat quarter quilt featured on the cover of Fat Quarter Favorites – a new collaboration book from my publisher Martingale/That Patchwork Place that releases today!

This was one of those “secret sewing” projects that I worked on last year. I shared a few sneek peeks on my Instagram account while making it so if you scroll back through a year’s worth of posts, you can see some of it in progress, LOL!!

The book features 13 original designs by ...

Tuesday Archives #196: Guess it's time for a break... from Val's Quilting Studio

Wow! Okay I missed my own linky party.
Val's Quilting Studio
Seriously....if that's not a sign I don't what is.
It's May...and May is always full of surprises for a teacher.
Personally, I've been thrown off course this past week.
Too many changes at work and at home...all at the same time.
Nothing bad. But never-the-less change and adjusting to the fact things will be different.
June first I'll also be on summer break...which means yet, another change.
I find myself tranquil on my days off as I enjoy mornings of movie watching, afternoon ...

H2H: Spring Finish for Happy Chemo from Val's Quilting Studio

I used this square in a square pattern once again called Summer Song by Villa Rosa Design. It used ten fat quarters and 20 5" squares. Again, it was quick and easy.
I love this picture as while I was taking my "quilt" pictures, Jackson suddenly
pokes his head out from behind the if to say...."oh there you are!"

It measures 46"x 58" and with this soft flannel backing I think it will make a
comfy lap quilt for a Happy Chemo recipient.
Then he returns with a look that begs:  "Are you still doing this ...

March OMG: Finished! from Val's Quilting Studio

I always love seeing how the quilting seems to "finish" a quilt top.
Since this fabric reminded of the the city with it's taxi and apartment building prints...

...I used a Car, Go, Go pantograph and really like how the cars added a new dimension the quilt.

Here's a close-up:

I found a wonderful "sketch" backing to compliment all the grey and blacks tones in this quilt and used a mustard colored thread for the quilting. I love it!

I found this pattern card on an end hook at Craft's Warehouse a few years ago for $2 ...

March OMG: Windows FQ Quilt from Val's Quilting Studio

Okay Okay....I admit, I impulsively bought this fat quarter pack a couple of years ago. I just really liked the variety of patterns and found the black, yellow, white, grey, combination irresistible.
It's finally time to cut into it and get it turned into a little quilt that can be used.
I picked a simple pattern and it will create a quick 46" x 58" lap quilt.
My husband always asks me: "So what are you going to with that quilt?" And I always look at him confused with a: "I didn't realize I needed to ...

Workshop Wednesday: Fantastic Fat Quarter Quilts from McCall's Quilting

When did you buy your first fat quarter? Do you still have it in your stash? And what is a fat quarter, anyway?

According to quilt historian Barbara Brackman, fat quarters—or one-fourth of a yard of fabric that’s been cut into quadrants roughly 20” x 18” rather than four pieces 9” x width of fabric—started appearing on quilt shop shelves sometime in the mid-1980s. She notes that they may have been referred to by names such as quilter’s samples before that time, which tells us a little about how they came into being in the first ...
