Loraine selected a pantograph that I just added to my collection called Cool Beans.

With Fireside backing fabric this quilt is extra cozy and quite heavy because of its size!

Birds of a Feather, A Mid Century Modern Quilt Pattern from Selvage Blog

Brand new today: the "Birds of a Feather" quilt and pattern. This is a mid century modern quilt that is quick to make because the triangles are made by eye, no fussy measuring or cutting. The colors have a retro vibe, think: Lucy Ricardo's dresses. And each block uses one fat quarter. Little waste.
See the pattern here: Birds of a Feather quilt.

This quilt measures 55" x 72," a twin quilt, a little on the small side. Or a generous throw. Perfect for bird watching or reading on your porch. "Would you like some tea and cookies? Yes ...

Kits and Quilts from Quilting Is More Fun Than Housework

A few weeks ago, I mentioned one of my quilt buyers wanted some small sized quilts to gift and to donate.  Since then, I have been going through my stash and pulling some fabrics for inspiration.

As I went through my stash, I was finding a lot of kid friendly fat quarters so the first pattern that came to mind was my Wiggle Time pattern.  It needs 5 fat quarters and about 2 yards of a background fabric.

Here is the first quilt I made and finished.

I loved this colorful balloon fabric.

It was easy to add some bright ...

Future Small Donation Quilts from Quilting Is More Fun Than Housework

One of my frequent quilt buyers contacted me and asked me if I could make some smaller quilts that she could buy to donate.  In this situation, I always try to keep the costs down as much as I can and use simple and quick patterns.

Of course I thought of my Wiggle Time pattern.  It is a quick sew and uses just 5 fat quarters.  I recently snagged two fat quarters of this fun balloon fabric from a friend and added in three more brights.
Some navy blue Kona and I am all set for the first one!

My ...

My daughter Kendra and I made this sweet baby quilt for our neighbors who just had their first daughter.  We knew is was a girl ahead of time, so Kendra and I were able to pick out some really pretty fabrics at Needle Crafts and Studio in Beausejour.  (Thanks to Jennifer for being so patient while we ...

Super Fast Fat Quarter Pattern Perfect for Showing Off Kaffe! from Quilt Addicts Anonymous

Garden Plot is one of my favorite patterns I’ve designed because it is perfect for showing off fabrics you don’t want to cut up.

The large sections of fabric and constant color changes make it perfect for Kaffe because you can just have a riot of color and show off those beautiful designs.

The shot cotton background is absolutely fantastic. The mix of a deep teal and purple threads almost gives it an iridescent look to it.

My Canada Home Quarter from Night Owl Quilting

Lorraine made this lovely version of the Highway 10 Designs' Home Quarter quilt from a kit she purchased at Keystone Modern Creative.  The fabrics are from Northcott's "My Canada" line.

Lorraine selected the Maple Syrup Pantograph for a very fitting finish.

If you have a fat quarter bundle lying around, Home Quarter is a great pattern.  The large pieces let you enjoy the fabrics you fell in love with, and it is easy to manage directional prints as well.  Sizes from lap to king are included.

The perfect intro to 60-degree triangles! Congruence from Fat Quarter Workshop from Quilt Addicts Anonymous

Today we’re bringing you a replay of one of my favorite patterns, Congruence, in my best-selling book Fat Quarter Workshop.

We’ve got brand new kits in my fabric collection, Nocturne with QT Fabrics, inspired by one of you! We saw one of our customers upload their take on Congruence with Nocturne, fell in love and decided we needed one too!

Congruence is a no-neutral quilt where you split the fabrics into equal colorways to create equilateral triangles. Then the 60-degree triangles are sewn together in horizontal rows, making it about as easy as you can get with NO ...

Easy Loop Meander – Beginner Friendly Free Motion Quilting Stitch from Quilt Addicts Anonymous

Today we’re going to look at how I quilted Whirligig, our latest Stashin’ with Stephanie pattern with an easy loop meander.

This beginner-friendly free motion quilting stitch is great as an all over design. For Whirligig, I wanted something fast, but that I could customize to fit the size of the blocks and quilt the background separately from the print fabrics.

So I loaded the quilt on sideways so I was quilting from top to bottom so I could quilt the entire way across without having to break my thread. Then I quilted the easy loop meander in the ...

Easy background filler and waves! Free motion quilting tutorial from Quilt Addicts Anonymous

In today’s video I show you how I quilted Undulation, our latest Stashin’ with Stephanie quilt pattern.

The quilting is really stunning and helped separate the fat quarter prints from the background, but there’s absolutely nothing complicated about the quilting designs. It just looks really amazing when you combine some simple elements.

You get to see a quilting play-by-play as I talk through what I am doing and why as you see me quilt in real time on a Go Pro camera.

I used a series of wavy lines in the background, working my way from the block ...

Star Block Fat Quarter Friendly Quilt! Beginner-Friendly Pattern from Fat Quarter Workshop from Quilt Addicts Anonymous

Twinkle is one of my favorite patterns in my best-selling book Fat Quarter Workshop. It is a large scale block that features two colliding stars.

The design of the block makes it great for fabric collections that have a lot of low volume neutrals that don’t offer a lot of value contrast with the background. We use them in the center of the block and the darker fabrics as the star points to clearly define the block and all all the fabrics to shine.

The original fabric in the book quilt is long gone, so we remade Twinkle for ...

A Wiggle Time Finish from Quilting Is More Fun Than Housework

A few weeks ago I came across some coordinating fat quarters and some matching background fabrics in my stash and decided to make a quilt using my Wiggle Time pattern.

I was able to not only get it quilted this week but I also attached the binding.
Hurray for a finish!

I really like how the printed background fabric looks with the focus prints.  It looks like it came from the same collection! (but it didn't - I recently ordered the background fabric from Connecting Threads. Sadly I don't think it is available anymore.)

I did struggle finding a ...

Evolution of a Fabric Pull from Quilting Is More Fun Than Housework

I know that not every quilter works this way, but almost all of my quilts start with the fabric.  I end up being inspired by a piece of fabric and it just takes off from there.  Sometime the fabrics come together quickly - other times it might take many months.

Back in January, Sally over at The Objects of  Design graciously gifted me some scraps.  In amongst her generous bag of fabrics were these three fat quarters.  I rarely have fabrics from the same collection (or even the same print) so I set them aside and decided to use them together ...
