Fat Quarter Flourish autumn bundles from Carried Away Quilting

Hello quilting friends! After I posted about my autumn quilt ideas earlier this week, I got to thinking that I would love to see my Fat Quarter Flourish pattern sewn up in fall fabrics. So, I mocked up some options using green, orange and black prints from Fig Tree’s Farmhouse II collection.

The great thing about my Fat Quarter Flourish pattern is that it only requires five fat quarters to make the top. And you can easily switch up the fabric placement depending upon what looks best to your creative eye!

Here is the fat quarter bundle I created ...

Small quilt sample sale from Carried Away Quilting

Hello quilting friends! I’m popping in to let you know about some new listings in my Etsy shop: small quilts you can purchase!

One of the side effects of being a pattern designer is that I quickly become inundated with a stockpile of sample quilts. I do gift or donate many of my quilts, and naturally I keep some for use in my own house. But recently I decided I will occasionally sell some quilts as well.

What you’ll find on my Etsy shop are table runners, wall hangings and pillow covers that have all been pieced by ...

A fat quarter quilt top finish from Carried Away Quilting

This week I finished a special quilt top, one made out of beautiful fat quarters I have gathered over the past year. It’s a mix of dusty, denim blues and soft pinky-reds. This quilt will be gifted to a lovely young lady. I’ve sent it off to the quilter to be finished, and I can’t wait for it to return!

The pattern is called Wayne & Gordie from the book Miss Rosie’s Farmhouse Favorites by Carrie Nelson. The quilt finished at 74” x 81” and was a snap to make with Carrie’s strip piecing method. For ...

Decorating for the holidays, quietly from Carried Away Quilting

I’ve been feeling quiet inside as we move into the holiday season. Not sad or depressed. On the contrary, I feel quite thankful and happy. But I also feel a sense of quiet. Maybe this is my mind’s way of fighting off the constant barrage of noise . . . from the television, the radio, the computer and the phone. So much information. So much news. So much to do. So much to make!

I’ve talked to other quilters who, like me, feel that being a quilter today is a bit like being a squirrel. We are constantly zipping about ...

Tis the season: Christmas quilts, runners and pillows! from Carried Away Quilting

We woke up to snow this morning! Granted it was just a dusting, and it has already melted. But let me tell you, those fluffy white flurries got me feeling all snuggled up inside. I was ready to pull out the holly and the ivy. It took every bit of restraint I had to leave the Christmas decorations in the storage room.

So instead, I thought I’d share some of my favorite holiday makes from the past couple of years. You can click on each project link for full details and more photos!

Christmas version of Fat Quarter Flourish (plus kits!) from Carried Away Quilting

Earlier this year I introduced you to a new pattern called Fat Quarter Flourish, a pretty 20 1/2" square table topper or wall hanging made from just five fat quarters! I’ve been waiting for the chance to sew this pattern in a holiday collection, so here goes . . . Fat Quarter Flourish featuring Christmas Figs by Fig Tree & Company for Moda.

There are so many lovely prints in the Christmas Figs collection that it was difficult to choose which five to feature. But that's what makes this pattern so fun. I don’t think you can go wrong, no ...

Counting my quilting blessings from Carried Away Quilting

Spring has finally sprung in Minnesota, and I'm so thankful for warm days, green grass, budding trees and singing birds! Maybe that's why I decided to add another piecing project to my list!  I've started working on a darling pattern called "Springville" by Thimble Blossoms, and I'm using a beautiful new fabric collection by Lella Boutique called "Nest." Here are a few of the blocks I stitched up:

I went out on a limb (pardon the seasonal pun), and selected a very soft yellow for my background fabric.  I'm hoping the final result will be ...
