Busy Stitching Table, EPP Stars, Free Patterns, from Canadian Needle Nana

The Phoebes are building a nest on the old speaker at the back of the house again this year...two in a row. I can watch them from my chair in the TV room window. The two of them spent ages flying back and forth from a nearby tree to the site thoroughly checking it out before giving it an okay it seems.

They are both bringing material now I notice but I can't tell them apart, though one seems a little darker which might mean the male.
Working together which is nice to watch. They are beautiful birds ...

Easter Ice Cream Cake, EPP Starry Hexagons, Thoughts For These Times from Canadian Needle Nana

After several dark, damp cold morning walks, today the sun is shining and we are promised it will get to 13C. I'm mostly wearing my spring jacket these days. And I, being the tick magnet that I am, have begun spraying my waders with bug spray...it's supposed to help repel them. The trails are snow and ice free...cue the choir...hallelujah!  And the Trout Lilies are already sending up tiny green shoots down on the big trail. The frogs are croaking and the birds are singing. Which of the 43 types of striped sparrows that are ...

April 13: Psalm 23, Fiber Fun, Literary Life, Finding Joy from Faith, Trust and Breast Cancer

Hello There,
Thank your for stopping by!  I hope you are all doing well.
Life has been so active with much accomplished behind the scenes!  We are gardening, deep cleaning, organizing and decluttering.  My method is simple - keep a paper grocery sack in my closet and another one in my sewing room.  The goal is for both of them to be filled ready for donation bi-weekly.  I am also culling my library.  My literary interests have changed over they years, so I am making room, or not, for books that meet my current interests.  I'm also making increasingly more ...

Spring-ish Signs and Critters, To Frog or Not to Frog, Downsizing Thoughts from Canadian Needle Nana

Tony called me to take a look at this little guy on the back yard railing. He'd been watching him for some time and he hadn't moved.

Sorry the reflection of the front door glass is weirdly caught in this photo.
He thought he might have died as he was so still. We kept watching and breathed a sigh of relief to see it lift its head and glance about but stay where it was. Then we wondered if it was sick or something. But it eventually stood up, stretched out each of its tiny back legs and ...

Stitchy Mail, Teal Stars, Liberty's Birds, Update Too from Canadian Needle Nana

Oh April, where are you?

Since I last wrote, we've had more snow- 14 cm to be exact, prior to it turning into an ice storm which was scary, then a thunder and lightening storm, high winds and rain, more snow -the mean kind, small bits driven by the wind and the weather warnings kept piling on.

Seeing the trees laden with ice is always sad.
They tried to say there might even be a tornado in the mix. Yikes! It's -7 windchill this morning..yes it's staying cold and I'm still clunking around the trails ...

What I've Been Up To The Last Four Days from Canadian Needle Nana

We had it very foggy with wild wind and pouring rain here in our corner of Ontario this weekend. There was a fog and rainfall warning -there are always weather warnings these days it seems. It is still very gray and windy this morning. Ned and I were sorry to see so many of the trees have lost branches. The white snowbanks are littered. But it is an old forest here on the property and we have to have these March winds to bring on those May flowers...eventually. The path along the left fence line always floods in spring ...

Stitching Challenge, Liberty's Birds, Food Hack, A Little News Too from Canadian Needle Nana

So what's new at the wooden house. Last weekend our fridge died. It came with the house and is old. I've moved things down to our freezer and the tiny drinks fridge downstairs. And this house came with a cold room intended for wine (our little joke is how ridiculous Tony's monthly box of wine would look in it) but now has come in handy to house most of the fridge stuff. Actually I'm quite settled into a routine of going downstairs with my basket for whatever I need in the kitchen. Logging more steps is ...

Art, Sunny Stars, Ned News, Comfort Soup from Canadian Needle Nana

From reading blogs, I'm quickly realizing I'm not the only one thinking February flew by. The weather outside my windows is back to frightful so nothing is indicating a new spring like month. Here March is an in between month anyway and can go either way, keep us snowbound or bring on rain and melting. Weather is not that important to me. I would never move somewhere just for weather though I might avoid some areas because of the kind of weather they have. I don't think I'd do well where there is high humidity a ...

Snowy Goings-On at the Wooden House from Canadian Needle Nana

My eyes are drawn to the tops of trees these days. No leaves so I've been rewarded with a glimpse of something or other-birds, nests, etc. Lately I've twice seen a turkey way up in the branches. Especially up so high there, they look completely out of place. How do they rest that long neck I wonder. Surely it can't be comfortable. Once a week, a flock still wanders through the front yard area. And lately a small flock of Dark-Eyed Juncos has been around the feeders. They are on their southern holiday from the Arctic. What ...

February 23: Jeremiah 2:13, Fun Fiber Projects, Literary Life and Finding Joy from Faith, Trust and Breast Cancer

Hello There,
Thank you for visiting!  We've been home a week and I'm slowly getting back into a routine.  The weather has been so warm we took our portable greenhouse down so I could prune the plants and they could enjoy some nice temps.  I hope your weather is also enjoyable!
Please pull up a chair, get cozy and enjoy this weekly post.

HERE'S A WORD - Faith...broken faith...faltering faith.  Here I will share a Scripture about these topics.  No judgement, only love.
When our faith is faltering, how do we react?  Do we go too ...

Flower Embroidery, EPP Stars, Sometime is Now from Canadian Needle Nana

I watched Brenda and Laura yesterday while I was stitching.

Besides the beautiful stitching, an important point talked about in the episode was how Some day needs to be Now. You know how we all have things we'd like to do, learn or try but put off for some day. But without being morbid, none of us know how much time we have so the point was some day needs to be now. For me as an amateur quilter, I have nice fabric in my stash and the plan was always to keep it till I got better at ...

Jumbo Cookies, Owl Watching, Cross Stitch Finish, EPP Stars from Canadian Needle Nana

When we drove home from Robbie's hockey game last Saturday evening, we couldn't get over how light it still was for 5:30. The season is moving along we happily agreed.

I had the pleasure of spotting and watching a young Barred Owl recently. There is one wooded area here where I've photographed Barred Owls a couple of times. I always look at the tree tops when I walk through there. This time I was lucky to spy him because this owl was quite tucked away, snuggled against a tree trunk and with its colouring, blending in ...

Quilty Thrift Bargains, The Prettiest Quilt Pattern, EPP Stars, Me in Complete Comfort from Canadian Needle Nana

How are you?  January always seems like a long month but here it is done. Here is Ned on the trail having a sit and a think about how time is passing by so fast. He's thinking one day I was a puppy and next month I'm going to be 4!

And so we move on to February and blues, but not the moody or sad ones, over at Angela's RSC Party. There always seems like a lot of blues in my stash and they never get depleted. If I did a poll, I bet a lot ...

Old Folk Issues, Me These Days, Happy Hand Stitching from Canadian Needle Nana

The male and female Red Cardinals have been visiting the big feeders late afternoon just at almost dusk. Maybe they load up on a little nutrition to get them through the cold night. It's hard to get a photo of them together and this was taken from a great distance. I wonder if they are the same pair I see all the time as it's believed Red Cardinals mate for life.

You've probably figured out by now that my favourite stitching is hand stitching. With that in mind, I've started another EPP project, this one ...

January 13: Psalm 34:18, Fun Fiber Projects, Literary Living and Finding Joy from Faith, Trust and Breast Cancer

Hello There,
It's been a while, hasn't it?  Life has been...challenging, but as my wise younger sister says, "We'll figure it out, and "We're going to be ok." In the last year and a half, priorities have shifted and, though I set goals, deadlines have been thrown out the window.

Proxima quilt – WIP from Zarkadia Quilts

In the heart of my quilting haven, where threads and fabrics entwine to create stories stitched in color, a new patchwork adventure unfolds. Join me, in a new project that started in 2022, and is about to end. The marriage of english paper piecing and applique has always been a successfull one, and if you add some scrapiness than it is a match made in heaven!

At the heart of this project are the 6-point stars, each handcrafted using the English paper piecing technique and a favorite scrap fabric. As the stars are pieced together, they are applied onto a ...

Little more progress from Espritpatch

We are back from pour holidays in Canada and the normal rush of work/kids/house is un full speed again...

Our trip in Canada was really nice, and although I was going to make it to a quilting shop or even a craft store, none of that happened! We visited Toronto and the Niagara Falls and then moved on to Québec for a little tour. Lots of lovely sights and a great encounter with whales and black bears!

Holidays has also meant hand sewing as you might have seen in my previous posts and with that I managed 2 ...

EPP UFO from Espritpatch

A long long long forgotten project that I have unearthed recently, kind of randomly... I started the Mischief project when I received the kit from Karen in 2017 but it hardly progressed despite being ready to be picked up any time and on the go. It has been so long ago since I did anything with it that it had dropped all my UFO list a while ago.

I found some pieces ready to be assembled into blocks

And also some pieces assembled

I picked up all the blue that I found already prepared to progress on this blocks, sometimes ...
