Slow and Fast Stitching This Week from The Cozy Quilter

I like to have a variety of projects to work on at any one time so that I don't get bored (no chance of that for a very long time, if not ever!) so this week, as usual, I have a few things to show you.   First up is my fall themed comfort quilt block for the Elgin Piecemakers guild.  I have had that leaf fabric lurking in my stash for several years and it worked perfectly for this block.  (I even have some left...)

I have been cleaning out my fabric storage area and keep finding blocks and ...

Cross Stitch, a Knitting Lesson and Some Binding from The Cozy Quilter

First things first...I found the hoop for my embroidery project!  I had put it somewhere for "safe-keeping" and then had forgotten where that was...until this week, when I was doing some fabric cutting and I looked up...My hoop was on the shelf at eye level.

Now, I can get my embroidery framed and hanging on the wall.  I wondered if anyone has any ideas for finishing the back of the embroidery...do you cut off all the excess fabric and leave it that way or do you cover up the back?  I put a piece of white ...

Appliqué Chimneys and a New Project from The Cozy Quilter

A few weeks ago, I noticed that another one of the Slow Sunday Stitchers was starting a new counted cross stitch project through Linen and Threads--it runs a new part of the pattern each month for a larger sampler project and there is a bonus Christmas ornament pattern each month as well.  I have decided to make a few of the Christmas ornaments and started the January pattern this week. The pattern suggests using one colour for the entire design but since I did not want to follow the directions, I picked out three shades of gray and a ...

Sewing Escapades from The Cozy Quilter

It's been a busy sewing week with lots of progress on several projects.  I also received some squishy packages in the mail today. The first package contained my Modern Guild Make a Mini, Make a Friend swap quilt from Anne L in Texas.  When I signed up for the swap, I said that I liked Frank Lloyd Wright and orange...I think she nailed it!  Thanks for a wonderful mini, Anne!

I made my block for the March comfort quilt for the Elgin Piecemakers this week too.  It is a wonky quarter log cabin block in gray and white ...

A Variety of Projects from The Cozy Quilter

I spent quite a bit of time this week working on my Modern Quilt Guild "Make a Mini, Make a Friend" swap quilt and I am very pleased to be finished.  It is ready to put into the mail to my swap partner in Texas.  I will be mailing it after the London Modern Guild meeting in February so that I can bring it for show and tell.  Here is a sneak peek of the backing and binding as well as some of the quilting which I did with my walking foot on my DSM.

On sewing day on Monday ...

Sewing This Week from The Cozy Quilter

Monday sewing days are very productive!  I had my spinning 4 patch top done to this point before I left home and managed to get both borders made and sewn on by shortly after lunch.

I had limited blue fabric to work with so that dictated how wide the blue border would be.

I used some of the Kaffe Fassett "Millefiore" fabric that I had leftover from the spinning blocks to make the final border.

Next up, pin basting, and then quilting with my walking foot.  The backing fabric was in my stash.

I even used my bowl cozy at ...

Slow Stitching and some Blocks from The Cozy Quilter

Since I finished my Tula Pink 100 Modern blocks sampler quilt top earlier this week, I needed to find something to sew this week. I am trying to work on my UFO's for a challenge for the Oxford Quilt Guild so I pulled out the UFO bin and chose my spinning 4 patches, made at least two years ago.  Earlier in the week, I posted some pictures of colour options for a checkerboard layout and several people voted for the blue fabric over the other choices.

I got looking at the gray and blue fabrics again, and decided to ...

A New Slow Stitching Project from The Cozy Quilter

Since I finished Frank last week, I needed a new slow stitching project.  I purchased this kit at QuiltCon last February and it has been waiting in the wings ever since then.  The pattern was already printed on the fabric and all of the threads, a needle, and a wooden hoop were included in the kit.

There are lots of new to me stitches in this project but I started with some easy backstitch.  I did a running stitching the in curly bit where my thread is now and will do a running stitch back to the main stem, before ...

Comfort Quilt Assembly and a Few More Blocks from The Cozy Quilter

After a one hour walk this morning, I came home and got to work in the sewing room.  Pat and I are working together to put the Navy and White blocks together for the Elgin Piecemakers' September Comfort quilt.  19 blocks were handed in at our September meeting so I started my day by making one more block so I could do a 4X5 block layout for this quilt. I found the pattern for this block in one of my 100 blocks magazines.

Next, I laid out all of the blocks on the floor in the hall outside my sewing ...
